Very good video mate! might wanna put in the description if anyone wants to use sata drives they'll need an 80 wire ide cable and a sata adapter with a Master/slave header and 2 capacitors like this model www.ebay.com.au... would recommend giving this a try yourself :) "

These have all been quite well done, man.
Ayyyyy, its Danny
Thank you :D
I'm risking a WD400BB-75JHAO 40gig
@@booggerfacce3315 ok I'm 3 years late but 40gb is hardly worth it I recommend at least a 160GB but personally I have a 500GB
Great tut worked for me, just like to add a couple things. You dont need a DVD for chimp. You can FTP those files directly to the xbox HDD, which is great if u dont have a blank disk or burner. Second you need to partition the drive if you installed a drive larger than 120GB. Chimp defaults the left over space at a max of 137GB. You can use chimp tho to format that space so you can use all of it. I used a WD 320GB drive.
Thanks for the hard work making this video.
m0nkeycheese thanks bro for a helpful comment 😙
mine is 80 gb but detects dvd drive, not second hard drive. what i need to do? pls help :(
this answered the question that i had--thanks i appreciate it
m0nkeycheese how do I partition the drive?
I also used a WD 320GB drive and it showed something like 297 GB free after i did all this
For anyone who followed the tutorial and are confused as to why upon reboot their HDD space is still the same, it's because you need to partition F if it's a 160GB. If it's Anything larger such as a 250GB or more you'll need to partition both F and G. You can do this with Chimp. Just load up chimp and select Format extended partitions on Master Drive. From there if you have a hard drive that is larger than 160 GB you will select the option to "split space evenly between F and G". If your hard drive is 160 GB or less you will only partition and format the F Drive. Once this is done just reboot your console and you will now see the additional space on the hard drive.
S&LGaming not true. You can take the f drive all the way to 1tb.
Does the Xbox have to be TSOPed before doing this upgrade?
@@nickbrick21 you can upgrade a softmod too. You can use 2 or 3tb drives if you want just like a hard mod.
I’ve just got my old modded Xbox out the attic to have a trip down memory lane. I modded it with a 500gb hdd years ago. It’s funny watching this as some bits I remember and some I don’t. Was really into all this back then. I have everything worth having on my hdd still. It’s great. Like a arcade machine in one box
Hi, what format does the chimp file need to be on the disc I intend to use? Thanks
Will M. I didn’t use a disk I used splintercell game and a usb pen with a special lead I bought on eBay. Xbox to usb lead
Very helpful. I've just required my old Xbox & looking to upgrade the hard drive. This has been the most straightforward guide so far. thanks again.
I remember doing this back in the day the extremely hard way of having to get your Xbox HDD key, unlocking it, connecting the new HDD that you wanted to install the Xbox to an old PC that still had IDE cables and ports and booting into some program that I can't remember and transferring your eeprom, HDD key and locking the new HDD, all using command prompt on a PC. It was pure hell trying to get it work. I installed an old 40gb WD HDD, but the drive started messing up on me and I never used my Xbox again, hoping one day someone would figure out an easier way to install new HDD in the Original Xbox so I could back everything up again and start over with a new HDD.
Unfortunately I lost all my Original Xbox eeprom and other important data backup when my HDD that I had transferred my files to a few years ago crashed randomly. I also lost my original HDD key. I had it stored on a txt file and wrote down on a piece of paper. Both are long gone now. Hopefully my HDD will work long enough to transfer everything to my new one that I'm about to install.
Thanks for the video!
Dont waste your time, instead of the Chimp, the Gentoox Loader starts which one does not recognize the controller so you can not select the right menu. I tried several times and finally broke the brand new sata>pata adapter, so thank you so much.
That was an awesome tutorial my friend, I was able to perform a cloning of my actual dying hardware. It was so easy, even though I encounter some trouble like the failing hdd who will failed for no reason. I used an xbox 360 hdd to clone my original xbox and it went very well. My xbox have never been so silent.
Worked great for me! I put a 500gb drive in my old Xbox and it's running flawlessly!
you an og boi
Man this helped me a lot. I was not having any success with the hot swap method.
I'd like to add 2 things for folks in case they are having issues like i did.
First if when you are done you aren't showing any extra free space on F: you need to go back into Chimp and then partition the F drive to get access to the extra space.
Second: if for some reason when Chimp loads your TV signal takes a dump you are likely using a CRT TV and it cannot handle the switch to 480p. If this is the case try switching to a newer TV for these installs.
When I was using the chimp program my controller was not recognised, I used the USB to Xbox controller port and plugged in my USB keyboard... Was able to navigate the Chimp program easy after that!
Thanks again for the great tutorial :)
+Dan SithEdition Glad you got it to work, where you using a 3rd party controller?
Thanks for watching
I followed the tutorial to the letter and it works perfectly, thanks!
One thing that you forgot to mention though, is that you need to create partition F so that you can allocate all the extra space.
+RhysticOne thanks :)
Yeah I'll get around to adding that in somehow
Is it necessary to alloc the extra space on new hdd before I try to clone the old hdd??
No, you can do that after the cloning process.
i think chimp does that automatically for me if i remember correctly since when doing something i accidently deleted a wrong file making the xbox not boot into evolutionX i think is what i chose though now its running XBMC
Do I need to format my IDE drive before cloning it?
One of the most important bits this tutorial neglects to mention is (to my knowledge) softmods *technically* only allow hard drives up to 120GB in size, due to the 24-bit LBA memory addressing limitations of the stock Xbox BIOS. You CAN put in a larger hard drive, and the G partition, once formatted, will be present and accessible, but not without potential write issues cropping up over time.
TAG Media how do you partition it after cloning?
I dont know the logistics but I have a softmodded 1.6 Crystal console that has a 500GB SATA drive in it and I have no issues. I didn't mod it myself, I purchased it like that.
Not true. You can use up to 3tb drives in softmods with a hair over 1tb on f and g if you want to.
That's not correct. You can go up to 2TB. Some people had success with 3TB. It all depends on how big are the drive's clusters. Over 500GB, you MUST have 64kb clusters.
@@90jucabala 3tb is just the same as a 2tb when you set it up. It gives you an extra 230gb of space or so over a 2tb. It's worth it since you can get them for a few extra bucks over a 2tb.
Did use this tutorial today " 5/8 -2016 " and it works perfect on my xbox ver 1.6 Thanks
Emil Jonsson what type of Molex y splitter do I need. is it male to female female?
Hi Stefan Swanson. U need one that have 1x female 2x male to make it work....
***** thanks!
You can simply use an old power supply from a PC for power as well. :)
5/9/17 Thank you so much for this tutorial, had been struggling as I had an application tab in the dashboard, but no apps folder in the E drive...you helped step by step, thank you again.
If you have a spare psu you could also use it instead of buying a cable. Just short two pins and I works. Great vid by the way
Great tutorial on this method it's way easier then finding a ide computer and doing a drive from scratch. But I have a question it been awhile and have since forgot but if I clone a drive with this method does that mean both drives will be locked for the xbox. Like I can save the old one as a back up in case the new hard drive goes bad.
Cloning my 1TB Western Digital right now. Thanks for the tut
Update: Worked! Thanks, man.
How would I know that the new harddrive I'd like to use would be able to lock?
Hi. I need some help with using the SATA hdd. I have the adapter and I have been unsuccessful with upgrading the hdd. Are you able to upload a quick step by step video of how to install a SATA hdd or maybe give me a step by step instruction for installing the new hdd? my new hdd is a Seagate barracuda ES 750 gig 7200RPM SATA. Please help!!!
I still had the same issue, but it went away after I bought a hard modded Xbox and used Slayer instead. I think my issue was that I didn't wait the 5 minutes while on the dashboard before removing the IDE connection on the DVD drive because it kept freezing up or not showing up when I scan the hard drive through Chimp.
Chimp looks completely different to me when I launch it, it's a menu with a few icons that I have to scroll along and pick from, also says "Gentoo" at the top
Select FatX.
PenorPie how? Mine defaults to web but gives me 5 seconds to choose a different option and when I try every button seems to open the web loader.
I had memory cards in my controller. When I removed them i could then select the right option.
VileThor I had memory cards in my controller when I took them out I was able to select the right option.
You don't need to burn the iso of champ . you can extract it and transfer it by the FTP 👌
PLEASE HELP... i followed the tut step by step but when i run the chimp default exe (then select FatX) it freezes while booting. what do i have to do?
just pulled out my old xbox, and I already had done a s-video mod but it is a softmodded xbox and I though that upgrading the hdd would take a mod chip. but this is wonderfull thx for the video.
Excellent tutorial! Really helped me out thanks champ. Liked, subscribed.
When I put hdd I get I/O buffer error and things like that. Does anyone else have these errors?
When I unplug the IDE cable from the DVD drive and plug it into my sata hdd my system locks up when I press file explorer. Any help is much appreciated.
Ev Rager same here
Have you set your other hdd to slave?
you need another ATA cable with 80 wires to run a SATA, just change the cable that connects dvd drive and hdd to 80 wire.
when i run the defult it takes me to Gen tool with Webboot +Net boot+ advanced not the screen you get ?
Works like a charm.
What if i have mod chipped Xbox with spare 500gb HDD and i dont have original HDD that was in console? can i still prepare that 500gb for usage? i used auto installer deluxe 4.53 to install XBMC and other stuff and Xbox recognize only about 120gb of that hdd. I only formated that hdd in auto installer menu.
Great tutorial! :) Can you upgrade from an upgrade? IE, you buy an old xbox off someone who has already upgraded the HDD, then can you follow these steps to add an even bigger HDD?
Thanks
Yep you can
This tutorial lack of info....how is set the new hard drive to slave?
Hd must be formatted in some way before do this?
messatsu1981 How to set hdd to slave? There are "jumpers" on the hdd that you can set...
HDD shouldn't have to be formatted but does need to be UNLOCKED, chimp basically copies the used areas of the hdd to a new one, a sector at a time. This overwrites the partition table, effectively formatting the drive in the process.
Some drives just don't work on the Xbox for various reasons..
Hope that helps
ya i figured out ;) thanks
+Slot1Gamer What if I am trying to use a 1TB Western Digital SATA HDD that doesn't say anything about setting a slave mode on the case of the drive?
Apparently Thompson DVD drives don't work.
Great video, replaced the 8gb with an 80gb i had laying around which happened to be compatible, now gotta figure out why it's not showing my extra space.
+Princess .Megabyte All done now, just went to file explorer highlighted the F drive, clicked it and scrolled down to format.
+Princess .Megabyte glad you got it working
+Slot1Gamer whats the song at the end?
You'll go through 80gigs in a heart beat. Buy a new 1TB Sata drive and an adapter from eBay.
I don't really play the console, just like challenges, going to be selling it soon.
So I managed to get it working. I switched the IDE cable at the right time and it seems like everything was installing on my 1TB drive. I cloned it, backed up the eeprom and then locked it. I put it now as the master hard drive, but it's not working. I get the Xbox logo show up for a few seconds, and then goes to an error message... Not sure what I am
doing wrong now :\
I have the same problem as well
i had that problem aswell, on my hdd it said master is left jumper, wasnt working i put the jumper all the way to tje right and it worked try adjusting ure jumpers note: allways change the jumper when power is of or u will frie ure hdd
Awesome, this helped me a lot. Thanx!.
hey mine says GENTOOX...What Gives Ayyyyyy.... Help...
I burned it on Verbatim DVD-RW and it worked. (Regual CD didn't worked for me). Maybe it will help to somebody.
Pavelwsad Lexapro for helpful 😙
Or you could just ftp it onto your Xbox and not waste a DVD. If your going to mod your Xbox it would be good to get comfortable using ftp through an Ethernet cable. Will save you loads of money and time on dvdrs and burning time.
Carsun Georginitus It's not a waste for them since they used a DVD-RW.
Wally17 True. But ftp would be much faster and reliable.
Thanks...
On the Monitor Cloning Progress, I figured option one was fastest, so I chose that one.
Not sure if it's working properly but it says "Error on Device hdb" but seems to be writing on the HD as I see logical blocks being written.
Hoping this works the same...
I'm having issues with my hdd upgrade. I made a new xbox hdd 2tb from scratch with the hdd maker. softmodded it. partitioned f & g to about 900 gb each. Load up 1 partition with xbox games so theres maybe 200gb left on that partition. xbox has been one for a day straight maybe. turn it off. turn it on next day. xbox logo comes on, unleashx logo, then goes to black screen and dash doesnt load. Any help ?
I have an original Xbox, no mod whatsoever but I do have the Aladdin XT2 yet to be installed. If I were to upgrade the HDD, I would have to install the Aladdin and that would allow me to get into chimp and do the rest, right?
this looks simple to do easyer then what i have seen before but would this work with a sata HDD using an IDE adapter ? as its very had to find good working ide hard drives these days and if i do they are always 40gb or 80gb
Used this to swap both of my Xbox drives one worked flawlessly, but the other initially boots to the "Your system needs servicing" screen but if rebooted will bypass this and start normally. Are there any leads to solving this? The only difference is the system in question has an LCD temp screen in the faceplate.
instead of using disk method i ftp it straight to my xbox but i get some sort of lpartx in and when i launch it i get a gentook thing that gives me 5 seconds and then some code starts up.
In your video when you say "Display slave drive status and check that it's locked" your screen says "Security Locked : No"
Mine says this after performing locking as well. Is this the desired outcome, or is "Security enabled: yes" what we are looking for to confirm locking?
Hi there. Your video gives me hope. My original XBOX hard drive DIED! I would like to swap it out, but can I follow your tutorial to do this? Do i need to original hard drive to work to "slave" it? Does the Xbox need to be modded to just replace the drive? I'm sorry if I seem like a noob at this, but any help you can give would be very appreciated.
Now do you have to use the ISO burned to disc? Because I used an extraction tool to get the needed files out and FTP'd them over and I don't get the option to boot chimp. Is it because I chose the standard softmod install?
So what does a person do if the drive wont lock ???
A lot of drives do not support locking
You gotta get one that locks
Would have been great to actually show all 6 screw locations.
do you need to back up the eeprom after you clone? or is that a safety
measure? I already backed up my eeprom.
Just to be safe
One more question, I bought two IDE cables that people recommended to use on the SATA hard drive, but when I try to use the IDE cable, the Xbox powers on, then powers off, then powers on again, and then the light starts blinking red and green? What could it be?
+Bender Rodriguez is there an error code on the screen?
Slot1Gamer I fixed it, I just checked all my wires to see if they were plugged in correctly and it worked!
I've been trying this by switching the hdd to a sata drive. When I get to the point that I should disconnect the ide from the disc drive and plug it into the sata/ide adaptor that goes to my new drive, the screen goes black and the xbox is unresponsive. Don't know what i'm doing wrong.
I want to put a 500GB ATA/IDE HDD into my soft modded xbox. Is it possible? How about a 1 or 2 TB? Would I still have to follow the same EXACT steps as what you listed in the video? If not (in detail) what would I do differently? Thanks!
can you copy when your hdd is dying? mine blinks red and green, frag or what you call it, and wonder if it is possible to save the hdd, cuz I think it is the hdd. It makes the tick tick tick noise
Does SoftModding affect an original Xbox's ability to LAN/system-link with other Xboxs at all? I've been connecting a few standard factory ones together via a standard switch for the past few years, playing MechAssault and Halo with a few people. Was thinking about SoftModding them soon to upgrade the HDs just so they're newer. Getting worried that the original HDs might fail soon after 14+ years hehe, so I might not have any other choice.
it does not effect the ability to system link, it might even make the process easier for some setups
xbox classic ``explorer file manager hdd to pc data transfer program download ???
Good video. I followed it to the letter, and my Xbox boots up fine, but the 120 GIG drive only shows as a 45 GIG drive. I don't mind it not showing the entire drive, but I'd like to know why it is only showing 45 GIG, when yours shows 106.
EDIT: I figured it out from reading some comments that it has to be formatted with the extra space. All good now!
Ok, this seems doable. But here is my question. My modded xbox has everything in the e drive instead of the f drive. C drive has 171mb, d has 0, e has 122 (left I think?) H has 720kb, and x y and z have 749 mb. Not really sure if this would cause a problem or not. Not really sure what it all means.
When I click to display slave drive security status I have an extra line for master password revision code and below that it says security is supported but not enabled. Is there something simple I'm missing?
It helped me a lot man thanks man!!
+Kael York No problems :)
+Slot1Gamer Question, i want to update to a hd i have that was on a old modded xbox i just want to install on the new softmodded xbox what setting should i use in chimp to bring over my old hd without erasing?
should just need to lock the drive but is the other xbox softmodded or was it using a chip (tsop and chipped Xboxes have a different file set up
+Slot1Gamer should i unlock the old drive first in case its locked
+Slot1Gamer the other xbox was chiped
hey did you wait 5 mins so it don't freeze and go to a black screen kept doing that to me had to reset and try again, also when your in the chimp part of it when it goes to the black screen part with the white text mine keeps displaying the text of screen cant seem to fix this any help would be cool still haven't been able to upgrade my hdd yet
+Nga Rimu does the white text change?
+Slot1Gamer yeah just some of it is displayed off the screen don't know why it does that tried to change the zoom on tv but still couldn't get it to display the text properly, plus the xbox froze a lot when I took the ribbon cable out of the dvd. I am trying to use a SATA hdd for the upgrade but I have the adaptor to ide don't know if that's the problem
+Nga Rimu I have the same freezing problem. I have tried 3 different HDD's with the adapter. None of them were recognized in Chimp and I have freezing problems. I don't know if it's the adapter of if I need to get a 40-PIN 80 wire IDE cable. Can anyone help? I've been trying to figure this out for over a month.
I firmly believe my hard drive died in my xbox, your video is very easy to follow, and I'm ready to do this. But i'm a little confused about "Soft mod" does your xbox need to be soft modded first to do this? or does this program chimp do the softmod for you? If you need to soft mod the xbox first, can someone link a video? Please, and thank you!
If the OG Modded Hard Drive is 160gb and the new one is 1TB will it be formated into 160gb or will it be all the data Cloned but the harddrive will still have 1TB of space ?
Not clear to me, do u add a second hard drive or do you replace the original one? If you add one wont it cause problems when reattaching the lid?
+prive naam we are replacing the original HDD
Hi, on min 2:10 do you turn off the console for 5 min to connect the IDE cable to the new hard drive? or do you do that with the console on?
+Brian Cardona leave the console on
Thx for responding...I'll try!
I've got a non modchip v1.6 does this still work with that or do I need to break out my soldering iron and add in an aladdin chip ?
I need to first softmod my original Xbox console right in order for this to work
yes softmod 1st
can i boot the chimp on the applications section instead of booting it from the file explorer?
I don't have a splitter cable but i do have a cable that lets you power a hard drive from the wall. Would that work?
Yep
the chimp file don't work can somebody give me a working copy and with I have both hard drives hook up and when I click chimp it just loads green letters on green can any one help thanks
+dport finest oh yea im using a sata hard drive
Can I use this method to upgrade to a 2TB drive? (I am aware that I have to use a SATA2IDE adapter - I have this already) Can I just take the new 2TB drive and just follow your steps using chimp?
Gle Cas Yes and No, some SATA HDD's can't be locked, you have to lock the new HDD. Most sites that sell HDD's should state if it can be locked, failing that just go to the manufactures website and look up the model you wish to buy. Thanks for watching, hope that helps
if i use a used hard drive and i dont know whats on it do i have to format it or it will be done in the process and if i do have to format it do i use fat32 or ntfs
NICE WORK !!
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HDD WORK IN XBOX ;
I NEED 3TB HDD
PLEASE TELL ME THE MODEL HDD TO BAY TO AND WHAT CABLE TO NEED ?
I CAN FIND THE SAME MODEL HHD LIKE YOURS 3TB ?
i didn't have any dvd so i downloaded another chimp file and ftp it over to the xbox and it loads up but when i click the chimp it loads a little bit and sits there and said starting and then didnt do anything? m i doing something rong or should i go buy some dvd?
bobbyelter3 help
bobbyelter3 Did you copy over both the folder and the files that go in the root directory? Try downloading the ISO I made and extract it using WinRar or 7-Zip and FTP them over.
Hope this helps
Does anybody else's xbox shut off when you unplug the IDE cable from the DVD drive, and then you can't get it to turn on again for like an hour? I got it working eventually, I guess you just have to do it fast. It's something I haven't seen mentioned in a single guide.
I can't seem to get this to work. I have an approved hard drive, a V1.0 XBox softmodded with XBMC, and I'm using Chimp 1.6. I've tried switching the IDE cable before running Chimp from XBMC, during the program load, and immediately after Chimp loads. I've tried expanding the linux tgz file and changing the linuxboot.cfg file to point at the unarchived location no progress.
No matter what I do, each time I hit an issue - a screen that says "Loading Linux" on it and nothing happens, or a screen saying "Drive 1 Not Ready".
I've even tried doing a FATX full disk format on the drive I want to install with no difference.
Any help is appreciated.
please help
i have 2 xboxs
The first xbox my friend remove softmode :(
how to fix it ?
i dont have windows xp :(
i have windows 10
i use this chip steps but dont work to copie files in the crashed first xbox hdd
the second xbox work fine to upgrade hdd to 80 gb
any help please
Uh my F drive says it has 0 mb free. It's a 120 gb hard drive.
I have everything I need except I am using a Madcatz wireless pad as I don't own a microsft joypad. All I am trying to do is copy my 500GB SATA Seagate Barracuda drive to another Seagate 500GB Barracuda SATA drive so I have a backup if my drive fails but everytime I try to use chimp I get a message that says something like Dissabling the bloody cursor or something anyways it says press enter to continue but no matter what I press on my pad nothing happens so I am assuming I need a Microsft joypad? I can never seemto get chimp to go into that options menu.
jai mal au derrier Hi dude. I had the same problem. I have 2, 3rd party memory cards in an official s controller. Once I took them out it worked fine. Maybe your theory about the pad is right!
Yeah it was the pad, it works now I have a MS pad. Trouble is I actually broke that Xbox now trying to install a mod Chip, I have another modded 1.6 with a Aladdin but it only has a 10GB drive with nothing on it really. My 500GB of stuff has gone down the crapper now as the old drive is locked to the old console, I even desoldered the EEPROM chip to put it in the working xbox so I could just put my 500GB in there but then my dog ate the EEPROM chip as its like a bloody child and eats anything it finds. If anybody knows how I can recover the stuff off that locked drive without the EEPROM please reply. Thanks
hi followed your process everything went OK but.my 120gb hdd still only shows 8 gb.
can you help please.
does this process soft mod it at the same time? So i can install emulators and XBMC on it? I want to make a mame and snes box. I can get an original xbox for cheap so i thought i would give it a go
+Brendon I in order to copy the drive you need to be softmodded
Hi I have got a problem with chimp i try to burn image few times and when I put into dvd it dosen't work. I look Chimp in your version but i can't found it only in gentox version. Please help me. Maybe you can sent the files from chimp and i sent by ftp to my Xbox. Sorry for my english I'm form Poland. thx
I've done this on a western digital wd800bb but It did not work (unlockable drive). can anyone help me choosing another HDD? i'm looking for a cheap one, even 40GB would be good. thanks!!
That end theme music is boss whats the name of it please?
ok my "Security enabled" keeps sayin no after i locked tha drive :/ what do i do? do i clone from a different drive? ok and then i got a error 5 :/
Csnt get my xbox to get into chimp 2.6 keeps green screening
So I have an Xbox with a 1.4 revision (I think) what hard drive should I get?
I dont get it, I had a Xbox 1.6 with Coinops already on and 160gb WD...I did everything exactly as said here, it recognized my new WD 250GB hard drive, locked it, moved jumper in back to master...rebooted......everything is there, same coinops and roms and dashboard as b4, BUT THERE IS NO EXTRA SPACE! E and F drives show up JUST as they did before with original 160gb hard drive, there is no room. It is acting like this was the same original 160GB hard drive that is removed and on my desk. The 3 other partitions of like 740MB are there too....what extra step should I have done, I'm clueless now about this partitioning problem I assume?
I decided to go back into chimp, I did the extra partition setting and chose to send all to F instead of making a G and splitting it. I rebooted, still didnt work, until I went into Unleash X and chose Reformat Menu...clicked F....and FINALLY!!!! 241 GB showing free in F now, luckily I have CoinOPs and all my extra packs on PC still, I just need to let it FTP overnight. Glad I was able to work through this.
I've softmodded my xbox and I'm wondering if I should tsop flash it. I plan to upgrade it to a 2tb drive. is the process the same as this? Should I tsop it before or after the harddrive upgrade?
+Zeljko Kasun tsop first and then follow my tsop hdd up[grade guide
i hope some here can help me. I used sata to ide to add a sata 1tb drive. I followed this guide everything went well cloning the drive i was able to lock drive. but when i put the drive into the drive caddie and powered back on i got a screen telling me it needed service?? can anyone tell me what i did wrong? thanks for reading and the help.
+Roy Jones HDD jumper pin(Master,Slave,Cable Select) in the right position? ( Same as the original Xbox Harddrive )
on the adapter it should have one , from what i read otherwise it wont work
What if my Xbox is hardmodded?
Ftp everything onto your computer as a backup from the original hard drive, use a copy of Slayer to insert into the disc drive before booting. Install new hard drive and then boot up the console by pressing the power (not eject). Then go through the menus to format the new drive and then lock it. Then install your preferred OS from the Slayer disc, and you're done for now. When you're ready, ftp your content back onto the new hard drive. Took me 14 hours straight to transfer around 250gb which I just let it do it overnight and when I'm at work. And that's about it. I recommend using newer SATA hard drives. 1TB is a perfect size for games, music and movies, but you can add more space if you'd like.
it says security enabled: no. how do i enable it? is my hdd locked?
not sure if anyone still does this but just a little heads up if you use a sata converter once you are done change the jumper back to master or you will get an 07 error i lost my temper with it at first then realised i just had to swap the jumper xD
great tip
what if you want to use a sata hard drive
Only some sata hdds work with the ATA locking
There used to be a list floating around the internet of hdds that could be locked and worked with the Xbox
Hmm, when I unplug my dvd drive and try to boot the xbox, it says your xbox needs service. If I plug the DVD drive back in I can boot.
EDIT: I'm a dumbass I didn't realize you were supposed to do it while the Xbox is on. I put the files through FTP beforehand so that didn't occur to me.
is it working now? :)
Same steps using chimp if the drive is a sata? I don't believe sata drives have jumpers...
+Tech the adapter you are using should have one
my xbox is not loading the the disc at all. it keeps on going into error code 7, even when i tried a new hard drive i'm still getting error code 7. can someone help? i want to bring back my xbox to life.

For some reason my Xbox will not lock with my seagate or my max tor hard drive
I cant figure out what to do. I put the chimp.iso on a disc but my xbox wont read it?
Do you burn it, or like a usb drive?
It does have files, use XISO to extract them from the ISO
Microsoft played it cool and used multiple different hdd's cd drives in their machines because they're cool, and you probably ended up with one that can't read the kind of disc you burned it on☺ Probably a Thompson😏
