    Thank you man!!! I now have a TSOP Modded Xbox. Was easier than expected. Hardest part was trying to see the solder points and get them bridged with my shaky hands..

    I didn't realize how easy it is to do this. Way back when the Xbox was new I paid someone to TSOP flash my Xbox and I've always thought it was a complicated process. Now I think I might TSOP flash my other Xbox, not needing to lock hard drives makes this mod worth it over just softmodding imo. I have a 500GB drive that refused to lock in my softmodded Xbox, but my TSOP flashed Xbox doesn't care about locked drives so no problem using it there. Anyways, thanks for the video, this was super helpful

      if you have the eeprom.bin file or the password written down you can lock the HDD with XboxHDM on a PC. then install the HDD in your xbox so the softmod works and TSOP flash.
      or you can buy/build an eeprom reader and manually recover the eeprom.bin file from the motherboard and then use XboxHDM.
      or you can hardmod first, then install and lock the HDD, remove the chip, then TSOP flash

    *******Special Insturctions for Winbond Chips Only*********
    When attempting to flash the bios on a Winbond chip and boot Gentoox (around 23:26 of the video) the screen may go black if using component cables =5 wire cables. The solution is to: either use composite cables =3 wire cables OR you can flash without a display, just carefully follow the video and count button moves and the selections. I was able to do it without a display just CAREFULLY follow selections.

    Gave it a go today and well . . . even though I can solder pretty good, I almost messed it up completely. Managed to get everything re-soldered in it's right place and it still works, but wouldn't accept the command to flash. Going to leave well enough alone. Hadn't touched it for 6 months so I think caring about what BIOS I have is a little behind me. :)

    The hexen disc is pretty cool. It will i.d. the version you have. I was attempting to do my first tsop flash and found out I have a v1.6. Oh well, I don't need to open it just for removing the clock cap so I will save it for later. As @Cartman122 said 1.6 :(
    I have other versions and am excited for my 1st flash. Thanks Wheelman.

    • @thewheelman282

      easiest method to softmod is to use the save game exploit with splinter cell or 007 AUF. then follow this video to perform the TSOP. you can upgrade the HDD later if you download Hexen 2017 from theisozone. it makes the upgrade process very easy

    @23:30, funny you say that about 3rd party controllers. As I have been attempting to TSOP my 1.3 Winbond Xbox today after following another guide, pretty much the same as yours. Every time I get to the Gentoox Loader XBE v6.05 screen to move the Dpad to the right to get to Advanced I cannot for the life of me get the menu to move! It just hangs and tries to look for a boot disc after 5 seconds. I have a shitty Saitek pad pfft, I am going to borrow my friends controller S tonight so hopefully it will work ok?!
    I will keep you guys updated :)

    very easy doing this on revision xbox 1.0 ,
    only need to solder 2 points for the 1.0 ,
    points are close enough for just beaded solder,
    actually , no room for wires really, just put the least amount of solder, when bridging the points.
    and at least for me , didnt see any problem with the points staying soldered on my 1.0 ,
    but thats me , and my 1.0 ,
    others could be different. im sure i will try other bioses later also.
    i love you xbox ver. 1.0

      I think I have the same version as you. Mine has the GPU fan on the heat sink. So this version doesn't require a wire to supply extra power just solder the two points?

    • @thewheelman282

      +TheGoose81 easier troubleshooting /upgrading mostly. if you want to upgrade the HDD or rebuild file system for whatever reason, you dont have to bother with locking and unlocking it. and if you dont have access to tools to perform the locking/unlocking, it can be a huge pain to troubleshoot

    First, thanks for the great videos. I now can change thermal paste and light up my controller ports thanks to you. Couple questions because I’m just learning about this stuff. Can I do the TSOP if I’ve already upgraded my hard drive
    Secondly, when you unlocked the hard drive does that mean I can now put any ide hard dive on my Xbox if the one I have ever fails? Thanks again.

    • @c.davidgraves4848
      @c.davidgraves4848 6 лет назад

      1. Yes. I upgraded the HDD before the TSOP mod.
      2. You should be able to put in any IDE drive. With an adapter, you can even put in an SATA drive. You will need to format the drive and build the partitions with a program like Xbox HD Maker.

    I have a couple questions. I have access to a chip writer. and I think even some of those 1mb tsop chips. could I remove any 256k tsop and replace it with one one of the 1mb chips? also if they are intrupted during flashing on the xbox I assume that they are actually still flashable they would just have to be removed from the motherboard and put in a chip flashing machine like I have access too. I have a chipmax 2 with tsop adapter.
    I am interested in the quad bios setup. or maybe just 2 bios. and which BIOS that may take advantage of ram upgrade. if you have any information on that?

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  5 лет назад

      The 1MB and 256K TSOP chips are different physical sizes and have different pin counts so you probably couldn't put a 1MB chip on v1.2+ motherboards. The chip is still writable if it's bricked so you would need an external programmer. Afaik all 3 of the newest custom bios's support the RAM upgrade so it y just your personal preference

    Any chance you know what R7D9 and R7D2 actually are or what they do? After doing this with my Winbond chip I'm having trouble with my ethernet port. Prior to applying the new TSOP flash I noticed that my router showed no link light whatsoever when connected to my Xbox. After the flash I now get a blinking link light on the router end, but I can't quite tell if the Xbox end is blinking. In the network settings under UnleashX it shows "No Link". I'm curious if I may have damaged one of those two components when I was soldering so close to them, and if that could kill the ethernet port.

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад +1

      your not the first person this has happened to apparently. there have
      been like 1 or 2 other people commenting that the ethernet port stopped
      working. personally i have never heard of this until a long time after i
      posted this video so im clueless

    • @majoraslayer64
      @majoraslayer64 7 лет назад

      I fixed my problem, but the solution made absolutely no logical sense I can decipher.
      Before doing the mod my Xbox connected to my network without any issues. After I soldered the points, without making any other changes (still running under the softmod at this point before flashing), I noticed in UnleashX I had no IP assigned, and according to the network settings it didn't detect a link. Without changing any settings I reconnected my ethernet cable several times at both ends, restarting the router and Xbox several times, but it refused to acknowledge any connection. I tried different ethernet cables as well with no luck. When I connected my laptop to the ethernet cable/router and used the same network settings, everything connected fine on the laptop.
      I tried a different router and the Xbox actually connected with it just fine. If something had actually been damaged it shouldn't have been able to connect with any router. A settings issue either on the router or Xbox end shouldn't have been the problem because I hadn't changed anything on either end except making the solder connections for the TSOP. The router shouldn't be damaged because my laptop could connect with it.
      Unless the Illuminati installed a specific feature on my one router that specifically blocks an original Xbox from 2002 connecting to it after modding, I can't figure out any logical explanation for why that fixed it. I tried everything else, but it now only connects with the new router.

    Do you know what the R7D2 (Resistor?) does for the Xbox? I accidentally removed it and my console is still working but I'm not sure if I should replace because it might not be needed. I have the windbound V1.4 Board.

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      im not sure what its for and im not sure how important it is. if possible, you can measure the resistance of R7D2 from another xbox and get a resistor of the same value. it doesnt have to be SMD. you can use a standard resistor if you want to

I am using a Memorex cd-rw that I formatted in windows 10. Should I have not formatted the disc? I check the disc and the hexen 2017 is on it. Do I need to install an image burner?

    I may want to do this in the future and this is a very good video for it. I am new to soldering and I have never done it before but since the points are so close to each other, couldn't you use a very small wire and use some sort of glue? I know I sound like a complete noob, because I am one, but let me know if I could use this method.

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  6 лет назад

      Lars Kuck , not glue but your close. You could use conductive ink. It's used for making temporary connections

    • @ScarlettStunningSpace
      @ScarlettStunningSpace 6 лет назад

      Ok, I'll have to try and practice some soldering, doesn't look that hard, and get an original Xbox without a Sharp EEPROM to make it easier. I would want the connection to be somewhat permanent so I think that I would just learn to solder for when the time comes. :)

    • @OlivierJannard

    Hello, I have a question.
    I have an original Xbox system but with a broken DVD-R and it's not softmodded. Can doing this TSOP mod help me bypass the DVD drive if the system isn't softmodded? I'm also wanting to replace the HDD.

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      if your saying you want to remove the DVD drive completely, then yes, a TSOP mod will allow you to run the xbox without a DVD drive attached. A TSOP mod will also allow you to run your games from the hard drive so you dont have to use the DVD drive

    • @EvilWiffles
      @EvilWiffles 7 лет назад

      That sounds good. So the Hexen disc part isn't required then? If I'm looking to replace the hard drive, is there a way to use HeXen without the DVD drive?

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      strictly speaking, using hexen from the dvd drive is not required. you
      can run hexen from the hard drive if you want to (i think its called
      hexen4hdd). but you will have to softmod first to get FTP capability to
      get hexen copied to the hard drive

    • @djdonbentley2141
      @djdonbentley2141 6 лет назад

      problem is you need a working dvd drive to first run the bios flash ,
      and usually you need to first already be softmodded.
      after the tsop , i wonder if you can use a standard pc dvd drive
      for most games,
      i know u cant before it.
      i can verify that after a succesful bios flash , the unit does boot , and work much smoother than with the
      softmod. same dashboards , more capabilities , basically the bios cant lock u out or give you most error codes
      that stop unit from booting.
      1.0 xbox was extremely easy to tsop,
      still have my soldered points connected, no problem,
      but dont know about others except my 1.0 unit.
      im glad i dont have a sharp bios chip.

      hmm, all different revisions of the original xbox have different drives that have different success rates with all types of discs. I tried a dvd-r and it flopped, then a cd-r that didn't work. But then a cd-rw seemed to do the trick for me. Its all about trial and error. and yeah, the hdd hexen sucks, i tried it and got no success. Good luck!

Problem is when I make a solder a bridge on R7D3 and R7R4, i put it back together and Hexen disc is not working. I have used the disc on other Xbox's and know its working. yes because your xbox is not modded yet. Soldering the 2 points only disables write protection the TSOP so you can flash it later. it does not mod your xbox

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      could be corrupted tsop but that would normally cause the led to flash red and green. but it could be. also depends on the chip and how its installed. different chips have different install methods so the xbox not booting without a chip could be a side effect of the chip being used. but thats just a guess. i know for a fact that v1.6 xbox's wont boot without a chip due to having to cut a trace on the motherboard so thats a possibility

You dont necessarily have to use anti-static bags but it would really suck if they didnt make it through the mail

How do you change the founder and animation on a tsop?...I have a 2tb Xbox that I had missed for me and the IGR used to work(sorta) but it would restart the Xbox... skip the animation flubber and then error 7....I know what it is it's not my Hdd or my adapter it's thinking out before it the bios can read off the Hdd. -unlocked HDD means less pain in the ass if you want to upgrade the HDD or need to fix the filesystem on a PC
      -changing the TSOP boot animations depends on the bios thats flashed. the newest one create a .ini file on the E drive where you can make changes to the flubber animation. the bios reads this file during bootup

      how are you replacing the eeprom? like flashing it with an eeprom reader? that method is kind of hit and miss. ive tried the same thing myself and havent had success. some v1.0 xbox's with really early kernels dont show error messages at bootup like the newer versions do so that could explain the blank screen, possibly. you wont be able to put your new HDD in the xbox unless its locked with the eeprom/HDD password thats programmed in the new xbox

    hello, so I was trying to tsop my xbox 1.0 with a ST Chip, I already have a softmod but because I didnt have a spare dvd-r disc I decided to try it without using a disk. I searched for a HeXEn version for HDD and found one on theisozone, downloaded that and ftp'd it to my xbox. Did everything like in this video and chose the "evox m8 plus F and G" option (in 256k). So it installed everything successfully and once I rebooted the xbox problems started occurring, now I get the evo logo on the top left corner but then I get this black screen and cant seem to do anything. I can still play games though and go into the msdash. So Im thinking my only options are to find a disc and burn the HeXEn disc and try it again?

      its probably your softmod interfering with the boot process of the new bios you flashed. thats kinda normal actually. you need to run the option in hexen to remove your softmod from the hdd. you might have to burn hexen to a cd or dvd man. btw, you can burn hexen to a cd. a dvd is not required

      ok, thanks for the info.I'm having a hard time over here hehe, now that I got this xbox working I tsoped another xbox, version 1.2 with a Hynix Chip. I think I might have bricked it, damn. Now when I boot the xbox up it goes off 2 times (meaning fans go out and hdd) and get on again and then nothing on the screen, just green and red light is blinking constantly. David Grizzelle the modchip is bricked. You can remove the chip and repair the trace that was cut to make the Xbox boot again to the stock bios. Then boot hexen and go to the part where you would flash the modchip and then plug the modchip in and try to flash the chip again. Failing that, you could flash the chip with an external programmer or get a new chip

      David Grizzelle , oh well you posted the same comment on both my videos so I wasnt sure. If it's a TSOP flash that broke, the Xbox is bricked. you have 3 options. 1) have a professional desolder the TSOP chip and program it manually with an external programmer. 2) get another Xbox. 3) install a modchip then boot hexen and go to the part where you flash a TSOP bios and before you flash, unplug the chip from the motherboard and then flash. Or you can just keep the chip in there and be done with it

      error 7 means it cant find the HDD. check the simple stuff first. is the HDD spinning? have the cables come loose? is the HDD jumper set to cable select? reseat the cables too.
      TSOP or modchip wont fix error 7 because the xbox is not seeing the HDD for some reason
      You can try installing any other HDD to see if you get a different error. if so, that points to something wrong with the HDD. if not, try another IDE cable

      you can make a new HDD with XboxHDM (linux) if you have a backup of the eeprom.bin from the xbox or the old HDD password. if you dont have that backup, you will have to buy/build and eeprom reader and recover it manually from the xbox motherboard

    • @thewheelman282

      its cool. no its not that. basically the HDD must be locked with a password so that it will work in the xbox. the xbox gives the HDD the password and unlocks it to use it. when it shuts down, the HDD locks again. XboxHDM can generate the password if you have the eeprom.bin file that is on the xbox if its softmodded. if you dont have the file, you have to use a tool called an eeprom reader and connect it to the xbox motherboard and recover the eeprom.bin file that way

    why and how is the bios on the hard drive and not on the hexen disc?

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  6 лет назад

      You'll have to explain your question. Not sure what you mean

    • @jackwainscott6343
      @jackwainscott6343 6 лет назад

      in the video when you go to retrieve the bios you say that it is on the hard drive. 24:09 of the video.

      if you could make a video on how to use an sd card as a hard drive that would be cool, cause hard drives brake down too much, and are heavy.

      @thewheelman282  6 лет назад

      Oh I see. Hexen extracts gentoox onto the HDD temporarily and therefore the bios is too

    +thewheelman282 do you absolutely have to have a softmodded xbox before disabling the write protection to the TSOP or can you do it before softmodding and be just fine?

    Do we need to remove the solder bridges after the flash? (v1.1, ST TSOP)
    Edit: I flashed now my TSOP, with Xecuter 2 ( i belive mine is 1MB but i installed 256 to be safe) and it work's fine, thank you! But i need to make new Shortcut's to my Emulators :P But I'm scared that i can break something, if I leave the solder bridges. thank's for responding!

      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад +1

      you dont have to remove them. it doesnt really matter though

    • @StarfilmerOne
      @StarfilmerOne 7 лет назад

      No? fine. Thank's! I never done that much to my Xbox, i just softmodded it before, upgraded the hard drive to 80gb added led stripe, painted it and removed the clock cap. so i was a little bit scared, if i can break something :D i got another question: i've got a tsop from st, and a "single-slot" power connector, so that mean's that i have 1mb tsop? and if i install multiple bios, can i load and switch them?(like holding the power button for 3 sek's switches from bios 1 to bios 2 etc.)

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      its not possible to switch between bios's with the power button like that. some modchips *might* work like that but i cant think of one that does

    • @StarfilmerOne
      @StarfilmerOne 7 лет назад

      and why should we install multiple bios's if only one can be used? sorry for all that questions.

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  7 лет назад

      You dont need to to install multiple bios's. you just need 1 bios. its just that its possible

    Motherboard 2003-06 1.3v
    Power supply double row...
    Know someone what kind of bios I have? 1mb? 500kb? 256kb?
    I am not sure which points I have to solder....

      Arek Stawczyk since you have a double row of PSU pins, you have a 256k BIOS. Unless it's a v1.6 Xbox

    • @arkadiuszs1372

      V1.6 ist different, as my motherboard, and I have Hynix TSOP, but double row of psu...

    • @thewheelman282
      @thewheelman282  6 лет назад

      oh wait. derp. since you have a Hynix TSOP and double row PSU pins, you have a v1.2 - v1.5. not v1.0 - v1.1 or v1.6

      you will need to open your xbox to see which TSOP chip you have and you will also have to solder the 2 points if you havent already. dont attempt to flash the TSOP until you know what chip brand you have

      Allows backups discs to played, allows unlocked hard drives making upgrades/replacements when faulty much easier than softmods and you can customise most bios startups on the tsop flashing using tools.
