I enjoyed your review of the MG4 Trophy, this is the model I have. You forgot to mention that it also has heated seats and a 360° camera. Its a bit dark in the rear cabin as like my previous car the ZS EV there is no lighting for the rear passengers and also no grab handles. To get to the price point they have scrimpt on items that should be there as a matter of course.I find it brilliant to drive compared to the ZS EV although that was a good car but it felt a bit of a bouncy ride and the MG4 has a very good driving range meaning I can fully charge at home and go out without having range anxiety.looking forward to your next review.
their stand at Fully Charged Show South was always busy. Felt sorry for the lack of visitors to the Ford stand. The reps seem to spend most of the time talking to each other.
Really appreciate your review on the MG4 Trophy. Very informative. I agree with most of what you said, having an MG4 Trophy myself. The only complaint is that its software needs further attention. I am looking forward to new updates .
Thank you for your comment Nigel. That is something I hear from MG owners that the updates do improve their cars a lot. A great thing to have with these EV vehicles.
Good review thanks. I have a Trophy and you've nailed it. Personally i think the extra Trophy features are worth the money. I find the lane keep a bit of a pain and it's also irritating that many settings (like the drive mode) are reset every time you switch off. Overall though I'm very happy with the car
@@manthe3711 Got it December 22. Overall very happy with it. Done plenty of long trips (e.g. 700+ miles on a week's holiday). Still don't like the lane keep and changing settings via the touch screen can be fiddly. Just approaching 5,000 miles and enjoying.
@@chrispenn715 About the lane assist thingy, I read comments from several owners who said that a recent software update had vastly improved this issue. Maybe that could be the fix for you as well?
Nice job of review! 👍 You mentioned the rear spoiler functionality (well done). I see it has slots which I presume will promote a downdraft - good for preventing the rear screen from collecting dust too quickly. My Subaru XV has a full shelf over the rear screen and in dusty climes where I live the rear screen is a massive dust magnet because of the aerodynamics. Very annoying!
Just bought a Trophy and I have one massive criticism and that's the lane assist. In my opinion it verges on the dangerous. The car defaults back to 'On" after stopping and to me that is ridiculous. If I had have realised I probably would not have purchased it.
The MG4 is a lovely little car!! The problem for me is that it’s too small to be converted to a camper!! My current car is a Renault Zoe, very soon to be replaced by a Vauxhall Combo Life Electric with the Wheelhome Vikenze III conversion.
Very fair review. I really agree about the handling, it is such a fun car to drive In the storage section I think you missed the sunglasses holder near the mirror. I would also say that my charging cable fits under the boot floor in its bag, it isn’t an MG branded one though For regen modes the obvious solution is to program the left hand star button on the steering wheel top toggle this, no need to go near the touchscreen. I have the right hand star button programmed to control the fan and temperature too
Congratulations a very good in-depth review of the MG 4 I wonder could I get some advice from you I’m a Taxi Driver and I am interested in MG as a brand I love the MG4 and I am interested in your opinion which car would you prefer as a Taxi the MG 4 or the MG 5 again congratulations on a great review and I am looking forward to your thoughts on my predicament
Wow!...........what Country are you in? I'm in Ireland, ordered the Exclusive (Trophy) in January, due to land in the Country July 31st. Wonder if mine will have the rear wiper?
Am in Ireland as well, mine is due in around start/mid August, sales guy also said they have added a small headrest for the middle rear passenger, would have preferred a light instead to be honest
You know what really annoys me about any car? They dont have any sockets for dash cams near the top of a windscreen ! How bloody long have we had dash cams! Come on, car makers !
Good point in regards to Ford. Why they chased high price, low volume customers when their whole business is setup for the everyday car such as the Focus and Fiesta. The Mustang EV was a big mistake, especially as the exterior design shouts more Focus than Mustang.
Seen many reviews of the MG4 and yours is one of the best. Collecting my Trophy in a couple of days and it has the lighter internal trim so not as dark inside.
I'd love to see the RTA stats on people fiddling around with dodgy touch screens on their infotainment systems. How can it be legal to do this but not look at your phone?
It is a grey area where I feel time will need to be spent finding the best kind of infotainment system that is usable and yet not distracting. Voice control could be the leap forward we need too.
I've been saying the same thing, it makes no sense whatsoever. Car manufactures are increasingly putting more and more functions on screens and removing hardware buttons and dials while the Govt is clamping down on us using phones and now even adjusting your sat nav while driving
How do car manufacturers get away with putting unresponsive screens that increase distraction and small fiddly interfaces etc, when the Govt is cracking down even harder on drivers and now this month increasing penalties for even using a sat nav while driving.
Between the SE and Trophy which ones have Automatic Climate Control? In Australia and New Zealand our Excite (somewhat equivalent to SE) doesn't have automatic climate control, folding mirrors, rear spoiler and "fake" or "vegan" leather where our Essence do. In my opinion our Essence 64 (64 Kwh) is our sweet spot - worth spending a few grand more over our Excite 64 or otherwise I'd go for Excite 51 (51 Kwh). Oh yes we also have Essence Long Range 77 but to me there's a big gap of difference of the price tag so I say it's not necessary unless if you really need that range. Back to my original question, does the Trophy have Climate Control? Does it have a lot more toys than an SE?

So if all the carwashes have frozen pipes . . . the true range of this EV will been minus 25-30 % . . . .amazingly my ICE seems to give me very similar performance winter and summer. PS there’s not enough minerals to convert all the world’s cars to EV so in ten years will cars be powered by “mini” nuclear?
There are plenty of minerals in the world to convert every car, truck, bus, digger, tractor etc to electric...and the grid will not 'melt' as more and more people switch from the ICE to the electric motor. You really should do some research and get passed the sensationalist anti-EV, into renewable energy memes.
There is a range issue with ICE cars in winter too, especially diesels, it is not just electric cars. I currently have a 2 litre D, VW passat. In winter I get 30-35 mpg but in summer I get 40-45 mpg driving to and from work. That's a 20-30% difference. More lights, heating, etc plus the fuel is cold and less efficient.
