    Great look at the engraver. Such a fun little wood cutting board/cheese board you’ve made. Will keep an eye out for when this is stained or painted, can’t wait to see the finished product.

    Thanks for a nice couple of videos about the Customizer, I have just received a v3 as a surprise present, not having seen one before. I am likely to use it more for wood carving/ engraving but will also try bone, so the free small globe shaped wood bit was nice to try it out, but the diamond bits are best suited for harder substances, or fine smoothing.
    One point worth noting, is that like you I thought I could use my Dremel bits, but you can't, Dremel bits are very cheap but have a 3mm shaft, and the Customizer 3 has a smaller 2.35mm shaft, and these bits are harder to source in the UK. Culiau have kindly offered me a discount if I order a set of 6 different bits direct from them, but for a quarter of the price I found an identical set on AliExpress [China], but with a month's delivery time, so I'll have to be patient!

      @UncleFrogface  Год назад +1

      I would always be dubious buying bits on aliexpress. Last thing you wand is a failure in a high speed tool. However, culiau do have an adapter to fit larger bits. It’s a nice twist chuck and means you can use UK standard rotary tools bits. I have a sanding drum in mine right now. Works well.

    • @mikedarby6717
      @mikedarby6717 Год назад +2

      @@UncleFrogface I agree that you have to be careful, but felt that they were worth a try, at the price. I also ordered a 2.35mm to 3mm adaptor, but will use that cautiously as some larger 3mm bits may overtax the Customizer 3. I have bought small adjustable pin chucks before and they haven't always centred small drill bits accurately, making them wobble. The one I ordered was specifically 2.35mm to 3mm only, so am hoping that it will centre better, but was a £4 a gamble worth trying. However, I am hoping I can stick to 2.35mm shafted bits.

    Could you please provide a tutorial for the application of the adapter to the 3 mm bits I purchased one and putting it on this machine does not seem proper and I cannot find detailed instructions appears you just slip it into the collar of the machine, but the adapter a body is extended away from the machine and causes quite a wobble

    • @UncleFrogface
      @UncleFrogface  Год назад +1

      I haven’t had any wobble with mine. I do intend to do more tutorials for the customizer and it’s accessories, but it may be a while and don’t want to waiting. Reach out to Martina on the culiau instagram and she should be able to help. The shank may be bent if it’s wobbling so I think they’d be best placed to help. Sorry I can’t answer the question directly, but hopefully that’s been useful.

    I've purchased a different engraver from amazon, which i have had for 3 months, but have barely used it for more than 4 hours. It is no longer good for engraving.
    Ive been looking at rellacing it with a Culiau pro, but am worried it may go the same way.
    So mh question (I've watched 3 of your reviews), is the Culiau pro still going strong for you now (afew months removed) & is my concern not warranted???

    • @UncleFrogface
      @UncleFrogface  Год назад +1

      It’s still the same as the day I opened it. The difference between the culiau and the cheap Amazon ones is culiau actually hold the patent for several parts of the customizer. They are always on hand if there is an issue.

    i purchased this unit based primarily on this 'review' & my need for a very small tool to word SMALL wood projects. based on my experience: using the bits included, this tool DOES NOT have the necessary torque to work exotic HARD WOODS like ebony, coca bola etc. adequately or even medium hard woods. it cannot produce FINE lines or gouge w/o 'skipping' (or even subtracting the material for that matter). better to invest in a rotary shaft as THIS unit (as presented out of the box) simply isn't up to snuff.

    • @UncleFrogface
      @UncleFrogface  Год назад

      I have not tried this tool on ebony, and wouldn’t be comfortable doing that either without practice. Just like I wouldn’t chuck ebony into a lathe without using softer woods first. The customizer is not a carving tool. It’s not designed to hog out material and make deep gouges with the bits it comes with. It has engraving bits designed for shallow controlled decorative lines. Can the customizer remove material? Yes, but with appropriate bits and handling. I recently made a wand from seasoned white oak. Turned on my lathe first, then caved with a mixture of hand tools and the customizer. I was able to get into tiny spaces and cut notches for teeth in a small wolf head carving, but with a tungsten carbide carving tip. The engraving bits where used afterwards to clean up some lines and add some engraved details. Culiau have a bunch of additional bits for the customizer that do carve, sand, cut, drill etc, but as I haven’t used them, I can’t recommend them yet. I will get some in the future and test them.

  • @naomiamar4639

    Hi! Would you say that its more recommended to buy the Dremel adaptor, rather than to purchase more tips that the customizer offers? I would really like to use more features that come with a dremel, like the sanding, drum and cutting bits. Also, how long would you recommend the continuous use of the customizer, without exceeding it? Thanks

    • @naomiamar4639
      @naomiamar4639 Год назад

      Also, with your discount, how much would the customizer cost? I don't really see a difference in price than what the website offers.

    • @UncleFrogface
      @UncleFrogface  Год назад

      With the bits, it really depends on what is most cost effective for you. I know I can pick up dremel bits pretty cheap so the adaptor was best for me at the time. I will be reviewing some other culiau customizer bits in the future. I have used mine for well over 90 mins with no issue (just short breaks to drink tea). • @UncleFrogface

      It is obviously clear that absence of examples on metals, this tool is poor in engraving metals with any effectivenesd, perhaps light scratcges.
      It lacks torque for metal work, so be aware when buying this, unless it is meant for light play.
