    I love that many of your tendencies that you’ve consulted Larry about over the years are ones I struggle with recently! I also really like Larry’s coaching style.
    Thank you for helping me fix my tendencies through you.

    Yep, I've always had the same issue with getting stuck but was never prescribed a simple solution from any teacher like this drill. You two do a great job at simplifying things and I can really appreciate that.

    Best swings ever and the accuracy confirmed it. The two prime thoughts on course are the rear elbow and the lead hand/wrist. Elbow ACROSS AND TOWARD the target, and the lead wrist hand, OUT AND UP with an even roll as late in the sequence as possible. To hit really low drawing punch out shots ala Scheffler that roll onto the green from in the woods from 240 out, same thought and add the final Byron Nelson tip of trying to drive the ball into the ground a few inches forward and to the right of where it lies. Slightly open face at address and ball position back. Awesome video!

    Love it! Been working all winter keeping club and especially my trail elbow in front of me in the backswing. My fault was creating depth in the swing with what I call a fake turn (lead arm against chest at top of the backswing and trail elbow hanging out in space). This caused my club to lag too far behind coming down so I would stall my turn and flip with my hands. If timed right I would make what felt like good contact but hit high floaty irons. Now feeling the trail elbow “tucked” I’m compressing the ball like I haven’t done in years.

  • @MJ2936
    @MJ2936 2 года назад

    I'm also working on this exact issue. When my right elbow got this way (I was trying to create length incorrectly as yourself and Larry noted) I would already start losing power at the top of the backswing as my arms were out of sync with the turn and of course the sequence on the downswing was all out of sorts subsequently. Great video showing the problem, and the drill to try and correct this

    Thanks… great vid for one of the biggest issue for a lot of amateur in golf. I might be wrong but a lot of trail elbow bad move bring a lot of movement in down swing and compensation in swing.
    Not bad if you re super talented with timing… but swing killer for amateurs

  • @pvj2016

    Yes! Good discussion. Is necessary for consistent and efficient swing plane. When done properly, elbow operates as a hinge and reduces variables to contact. If it feels awkward, adjust spine angle so that the elbow has an easier time of clearing your hip. Will be different for some, but is right for everyone. Can start with club at parallel to floor, then move to half swings, then move to full speed and feel throughout the practice session.

    Love these videos and following your journey! The end of the backswing from the first swing at :56 and the last one at 6:11 look identical to me but LC said it was really good and you said it was a better strike. Can you explain what the differences are and what you're feeling? Really hard to tell by looking at it but would love to work on this myself.

  • @mvansb23
    @mvansb23 2 года назад

    Fantastic stuff. Very helpful to me. The only caution i would offer is that some people with physical limitations in their shoulder might not be able to externally rotate their trail shoulder enough to avoid the backswing chicken wing. And there are some players that have had success with it. Fred Couples Jack Nicklaus John Daly…etc. I’d love to hear Larry’s thoughts on why they got away with it. Was it just an optical thing in some of those legendary swings where elbow was out but not in a problematic position? Or were they just really good at re directing from a challenging top position ??

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro 2 года назад

      It's superfluous movement & if you watch their swings, they drop it back down into the right position fairly early. If you're athletic enough you can get away with a lot of things that would cause huge problems for an average player.
      One of my buddies does this to the extreme & he's a 2 hdcp. He has incredibly quick hands to get back on plane. If I try his move, I nearly miss the ball.

    Serious question. Are you actually a student here or are you "playing" one for our benefit? Your swing seems so clean! This content is either way greatly appreciated! My trail elbow is the first thing that hurts when I play a lot of golf. Being a bit more conscious about how I swing the club might help. Thanks for the drills! 😊

    I feel very mechanical if I try and keep my left arm against that imaginary wall. Is this position supposed to result in a more consistent strike or path? I'm not understanding the real benefit if you only have a little bit of elbow "flare".

    • @adamwittman982
      @adamwittman982 2 года назад

      The benefit would be both. A swing path is just a number that you can arrive to from a multitude of swing mechanics and get the same path. With this elbow position you are creating more proper turn /rotation and width by not artificially creating it by using your arms independently from the rest of your body.

    • @TML34
      @TML34 2 года назад

      @@adamwittman982 Using your arms isn't "artificial" in my mind, it's just another way of creating swing length, and therefore, speed. Not all of us can twist our body like a pretzel to get swing speed.
