Nice Matt. You've developed an ever stronger 'screen presence' since starting your own channel. And in this series of content you've struck the perfect balance between instruction, detail and entertainment. I'm enjoying these a lot. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you. Great drills. As an 80 year old who has been playing for 60 years, who at 5 feet 11 weighs 225 but should weigh 195, I need to work on completing the turn toward the target and finishing with weight on my left foot with right foot up on the toe. I don't hang back on the right as you show, but do have trouble rotating all the way so that I will end up with my belt buckle still facing a bit to the right and with some weight still on the right foot. Being able to stand on the left foot alone with the right foot raised is really hard. Even you had trouble keeping your balance and standing on just one foot, so multiply that 5 or 10 times for me. On other things, totally agree about not letting the trail elbow get high. That causes the trail hand and arm to push the handle of the club outward, creating an over the top swing path. Keeping the trail forearm more vertical is key. They used to say think of a waiter holding a tray, forearm vertical and wrist bent back. Question: While keeping your arms from going too far at the end of your backswing, what consideration do you give to getting the lead arm (your right arm, my left) and hands high enough? One instructor uses the thought "bite your bicep" to get the upper lead arm high enough. I find that failing to do this tends to produce a too flat swing plane that gets too deep behind me, leading to both fat and thin strikes and loss of club speed and distance. But it seems from watching you that if you are using the ball between your forearms, if you raise your arms up high the ball will fall out.
In terms of height of the hands, the ball drill will definitely encourage a more compact backswing but not necessarily force you to swing flatter. It’s more about keeping the forearms closer together and connected with the chest than it is about making the backswing flatter. Hope that makes sense 👍
Lovely! It's great seeing your work with Larry, and inferring the "right" things to do from those videos has been incredibly helpful. But these concrete, actionable drills are something that anyone and everyone can take to the range, and it's awesome that you're sharing. Thanks Matt, your content has been stellar and you're a rock star!
For me the most useful among these drills is to imagine heaving the medicine ball. That tightens up my swing and helps me get the pressure shift and sequencing in good order. Thanks Matt
That last pointer is so spot on! When i swing at my best, it’s always that feeling of club head lagging miles behind the body. However, when trying to replicate that feeling while out of sync, i can really thin the balls all over the place…
I'm glad you addressed practice session length. I tend to practice until I'm very tired. My progress usually looks like a bell curve with my best shots coming in the middle of my sessions. The longer I practice the poorer my consistency becomes.
Definitely going to start incorporating the shorter back swing drills and the follow-through 1 foot. I feel like those 2 I need to put some time into. Very very smart tips at the end to focus on 1 thing and only go till your tired.
I’m such a Matt Blois fan boy 😂 the lifting the back leg has been really eye opening for me and improved my ball striking heaps. That and the Larry videos got me to 74 (+2) on the weekend for a PB. Thanks guys
Great video idea. Really knots together your take always from the recent training videos. Would be cool to see your strength /stretching routine away from the bay to support your changing golf swing, potential video idea?
Matt..do you think you would have taken on such an in depth journey into improving so many aspects of your game and health, had you not separated from TXG? I feel that we are seeing a side of you that is so fresh and inspiring. Very few people are able to articulate things the way you do, seemingly so simple. Either way, I'm loving the progress and the inspiration you give us viewers. I've been a fan for many years. All my best. Waiting for the next video.......
Thank you Matt for sharing these drills. I have the exact same issue with handing back on my back leg. I found the balance drill plus the hockey drill have really helped me.
Wonderful tips & drills, Matt! I sometimes struggle with starting the downswing with the arms which creates so many issues as you addressed in this video...great content and enjoy all your videos!
Keep it up Matty, i have this exact issue as well I love these videos. The instructional ones are best ones by far. Make it easy to watch and understand.
Thanks Matt!!! You're stuff has really helped me develop way better control and strikes... That Tour Striker is awesome as is the Medicine Ball Drill... Thanks again... Awesome stuff keep it up...
Ive always been a big fan of building a "gamer" pre-shot routine to support what im working on in training, I feel it closes the loop on eradicating the bad habits under pressure. Have you ever done a video on the Pre-shot routine? if not i'd love to see one.
Good stuff!! Glad to see all the Larry videos. My one lesson with him a few years back was awesome. Great drills and stuff that I need help on. Keep it up bud! Hope to meet up next time you are in California.
The balance drill I've been using and a thought you were using when testing drivers. Instead of thinking of the downswing if I just focus on getting to a full finish and on the lead leg it straightened out my driver so much
I have a variation of the “football between the forearms” drill. Instead of the “football” I use a 6 lb medicine ball which means I really have to squeeze my forearms together for it to stay in place. I will also alternate between a 7-iron and a Momentus Training Iron (weight 5 lb) while doing this drill. It’s simply not possible for me to take the club back too far. I don’t worry about hitting a ball, I just work on the feel of the swing.
Interesting drills. Sort of off-topic question. What is your take on ball position? I notice your 7 iron is a bit more toward middle of your stance (at least it seemed that way). I was watching some other video, where the tip was keep the ball in the same position between the feet for all clubs, because of that move to the forward leg you also are demonstrating. This is in order to keep point of impact the same. However, I learned to move the ball a bit back the higher the loft of the club. For instance, pitching wedges would even be behind middle of my feet. When I did hit the ball right with the ball forward in the stance (much more than I would), it went higher, so a bit more stopping power, but also went further, strangely enough. So, I'm a bit on the fence on the ball placement. I'm going to continue to train with the ball a bit more forward than I'd usually put it. But what is your take?
you're the man Matti boi the last two drills really work well for me any tips on how to transfer the swings during practice sessions to the field?? im striking them so well during practice, but my old habits always creep in on the field.. (early extension -> shanks)
I have the smart ball, which really does work, but I always go back to Ben Hogans towel under the armpit drill. My strikes always seem to correct itself with this drill. I just use a golf towel
Matt... I remember a couple years ago or so you were giving the Tour Striker Planemate a go. You seemed to like it at the time but, we never saw any other videos after you had been using it for a long period of time. Did you like it or did you stop using it? If you stopped, why? I'm just curious, I have one but don't use it as much as I should. I think it's a good aid though. Definitely teaches you rotation. Great videos, really enjoying your content! Keep it up. Justin
Thanks Matt for another great video! I've recently subscribed to your channel and I have learned quite a lot from you as well as the videos with LC. Being a left-handed player as well I find that watching you swing helps me a lot. Where did you buy that Watson ball from?
Oh and I for one would love to see a product link posted in the description section for the training aids you used and spoke about today. Would be great to be able to support you in that way if its possible...👍
Matt have you ever used the Lag shot training aids? I keep seeing people who are probably sponsored by them talking about how great they are, but I wanted your opinion.
Hey Matt, loves these drills. Thank you! Question about shortening your backswing…I’m on the journey to do the same to correct a flying elbow and the club going across the target line. Finding a serious loss in distance…is that a by product of the shorter swing…or will distance return after you get used to the swing sequence?
Just look at how short Jon Rahm's backswing is and the distance he gets. Speed is generated from the hips, pure strikes and follow through. I see plenty of older experienced golfers get good distance with 3/4 backswings.
@@midlifebiker7424 I hear ya. Makes sense. I’ve just noticed a significant drop in ball speed and wondering if it will return or to just accept the new yardage gaps. My ball speed with a 7 iron was comfortably in the high 120s with my old move. Now around 122 with the shorter backswing…might just be sequencing, timing, and confidence. But it also might just be the speed I can generate this way. And to accept that.
They have a lot similarities but different approaches at times. For me the point of the channel is to showcase talented instructors for the viewer, I don’t necessarily apply everything from every video as it wouldn’t be realistic
I can’t really tell, but are you bowing your wrist at all? When your about to make contact with the ball, are you feeling the logo on your glove is aiming at the ground? I struggle a bit with my driver fading away from me. Fellow lefty here.
Nice Matt. You've developed an ever stronger 'screen presence' since starting your own channel. And in this series of content you've struck the perfect balance between instruction, detail and entertainment. I'm enjoying these a lot. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Rufuss!
Finally a lefty to follow. Great review with some awesome ballstrikes.
A recommendation I can add is if you feature a product of some sort on your video, you should link it in the description! Keep up the good work Matt

Top notch content Matt! Thanks for continuing to put out info that'll help all of us tortured golfers.
Thanks Matt, finally got something that resembles rotation after watching this one!
Fantastic Instructor. Very easy to understand and really like the vibe of these videos. Best golf content on RUclips
This is music to my ears! Great drills, thanks for sharing!
Well done Matt. I’ve followed you since you were with Shawn at WIG. You have grown immensely as an instructor . Good job

Love the last bit of advice. Stay focused and don’t over do it
The medicine ball drill is legit, especially for an over the top/choppy swing. It’s been helping me a ton.
This is like a best of video. Love it... the short practice but often is so key.
Matt, your channel has helped me improve my game so much! Thank you. Please keep the content going! Im locked into it!
Thanks Matt, have just purchased this ball. Hoping it will help stop me slapping and flipping at impact. Great channel BTW

So good. I wondered about the shorter more frequent practice sessions. Often I end up hitting way too many. Will use this advice!
Great drills Matty. I have shown my dad and my friend your drills and they like them a lot. Both stuggle to get on the front foot.
These are helpful. They address a lot of my issues. Thanks Matt.
Love the drills Matt! You have the smoothest swing. Wish I had that!
Awesome tips Matt. 😁👍👌
Matt can you do a video about Grip and grip pressure please? It would be good to get your take on those two. Thanks
I like these, a lot of these fall into what I've been trying to do with swing thoughts. I may give them a try. Good video Matt.
Love these drills, Matt. Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff. There’s a couple in there I like.
Keep it up Matty, i have this exact issue as well I love these videos. The instructional ones are best ones by far. Make it easy to watch and understand.

nice drills, i really like the last 2, strange feelings when arms are way back
Excellent stuff. Thanks Matt.

any tips on how to transfer the swings during practice sessions to the field??

Great training aid but for me it was making me get too inside out. It’s an awesome drill for someone with an over the top move
@@GolfLiberty I can definitely see that. Thanks for the reply and for the great content!
Thanks Matt for another great video! I've recently subscribed to your channel and I have learned quite a lot from you as well as the videos with LC. Being a left-handed player as well I find that watching you swing helps me a lot. Where did you buy that Watson ball from?
Watson golf sells directly on their website I believe

Short term distance loss is likely, but as you start to learn better sequencing and ground force the speed should come back
can you put on a link about this training aid Matt?
How open (pointed forward) do you set your lead foot in your stance? Help with rotating into that side without torquing your knee/leg as much?
I tie it open a little bit, maybe 15 degrees or so if I had to guess an amount. It does help you rotate into the finish
What about your time in FL with Tyler? I felt like he had you swinging it well. Do you go between the two or do they teach the same things?
They have a lot similarities but different approaches at times. For me the point of the channel is to showcase talented instructors for the viewer, I don’t necessarily apply everything from every video as it wouldn’t be realistic

Generally my wrist is flat at the top, at times it can get slightly bowed
Out of those drills for the weak fade or random shank which would you focus on first?
Arms staying back should help there
The one leg balance drill, does that apply to a driver swing? Or should driver not be so perfectly balanced at the end
I look at Rory and think he could float after his follow through.
Would the overswing drill help with driver as well or is there something different that would help.
Yes that would help for sure
@@GolfLiberty thank you sir
Matt, what is the angle of your left (trail) wrist at impact? Is it closer to 90 or 0?
I’m not entirely sure, but I would assume some angle is retained there for shaft lean
What is Matt's handicap
Love a good drill. How about some gym stuff.
I have the structure ball. It feels so uncomfortable even for short swings. What could I be doing wrong?
takes a lot of time and reps, will definitely feel uncomfortable at first it's a tough drill
What are the training tools that you used in the video?
Training ball is from Watson Golf
These drills would help a mid handicapper like me?
For sure!
The wife says no to throwing her medicine balls against the wall. She just doesn't seem to want me to improve.
