    I struggled with swinging with my arms too much in youth baseball and it persists in golf. I strike the ball so much better when it _feels_ like my hands are wayyyyy behind through impact, but in fact they're correct. Drills like this are good for changing the picture I have in my head of what my swing looks like.

    This is a very good drill for the golfer who creates separation between upper and lower body very easily. Maybe too easily. For some who lack this mobility, finding contact might be a challenge. I see the young top professionals using this drill a lot on full shots whereas Senior PGA guys use it on many wedge and half shots. Love the videos.

    LOL, that was my comment about the eyes to target early. my comment was specifically in relation to the drill keeping the shoulder down and around, moving you head allows your shoulder to lift. when i do what you do i pull hook my shots. if i feel down through the impact i can generate a natural flight. great work on this drill, looks comfy for you.

    This is wild Matt. Our swings look so different but we have the exact same faults we're working on. I tend to tilt back and dump the club inside creating the blocks and hooks. I was pumped when you posted the blocks and hooks fix video. I starting using your drill (squat/lead shoulder down and around) the problem is I was really struggling with contact. Then you came out with this video and you taught me I had to rotate and leave the hands higher/more passive. You have no idea but you're acting as my real-time personal coach lol!

    Was working on the same thing during my lesson & practice today, dripping in sweat mid-way through - swing is much more taxing which is good. Also on the live commented on ball height - it was 124ft w/ 7 iron. Tried to control height on next swing and got it at 102, so maybe that should just be my stock swing (moved ball slightly back as suggested and tried to stay on top of it). Thanks for posting about your journey, helping my swing/sequence out a lot.

    Hi Matt, I have been watching this video and some others over and over again. I would like to see two more things. Can you please show how strong you hold your grip and how you release the club until the end of the swing in slow motion? If your body turn first and have your arm follow the body, isn't club face open unless you have a strong grip? and one more, is the concept of the driver swing the same as this except for the location of the ball?

  • @ninjafk
    @ninjafk 2 года назад

    I've been really working on making sure that my arms and hands are much more passive. I think I got the feeling, but I want to make sure I'm not overdoing it. Does it feel at all like your lower body rotation is "pulling" your upper body into rotation? I feel like when I'm doing that, I get the best feeling swing, but I don't want to get used to it if it isn't right! It's hard to know if it will work since I don't have a launch monitor (yet). When I was doing this at the end of last season, my best feeling hits were pushes (I fight a huge hook), so I think it's working... we'll see as I get out this season.

    Any comment on how to maintain club face control during drills like this? When I have tried to address sequencing I've often found myself hitting hosel of the club from time to time as i'm leading with too open of a face coming into impact. Would that possibly be distance from ball or do you still feel yourself somewhat covering the ball as you maintain separation but with the separation instead of it hooking with too closed of a face, this balances it out?

    Don't most if not all of the best players have their hands relatively in front of their sternum throughout the swing? It's referred to as connection but if you leave your hands up or have passive arms, they lag behind the turn and body which result in getting stuck and having to catch the face up through impact. I'm sure you've seen the clip from Tiger and Butch about the drill where he feels his hands out race the body to impact which would be the complete opposite. Lot of amateur golfers struggle getting stuck and over the top because they've been told for years to "fire the hips"
    Also, it looks difficult to generate speed when your arms are pinned across your chest and all the speed is effectively from your body's rotation.

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro 2 года назад

      I've had all the same bad habits as Matt from years of thinking I need to keep my hands in front of my chest. Your arms will catch up as you release. This approach does require more hand speed/more athleticism but Matt has it.
