    In fact Dolores did always tell Bruno was there. In the Song "we don't talk about Bruno" she says "I kind of hear him muttering and mumble" and "it's like I hear him now, I can hear him now!". But you can just tell someone if they're listening.

    • @writingcooper7900
      @writingcooper7900 2 года назад +14

      Not to mention her comment about “the rats talking in the walls” being worried about the magic. Bruno was worried and she could hear him talking to the rats

    • @haddow777
      @haddow777 2 года назад +1

      @@writingcooper7900 Plus, it could be that she knew it was Bruno then too. I can just imagine when she was younger, trying to tell people that she heard Bruno in the walls, with how everyone acted about his leaving. No doubt she grew up being told that no, it wasn't Bruno. We don't talk about Bruno. It's just rats you're hearing. I can totally see that after a while, she would give up wasting her efforts on telling people and just say she hears rats talking in the walls. Later in Bruno's song, I think she actually goes back to saying she hears Bruno because someone was actually willing to listen this time.

      @@haddow777 yep, "I associate him with the sound of falling sand..shh! shh!" has a double meaning. Not just the salt/sugar he throws over his shoulder, but the shushing she would have gotten earlier in life when she would try to say "I hear tio Bruno in the walls"

    16:32 No no, she DID say something. She mentions it CONSTANTLY throughout the movie, but nobody else acknowledges it.
    Also, in her part of the We Don’t Talk About Bruno he appears. You can see him walking around upstairs, stop, and then start bobbing his head to the song.

    • @Gracejkay
      @Gracejkay 2 года назад +5

      She definitely did for sure, but it’s before we know he’s living in the house so i think most listen and think Dolores is just speaking figuratively (or that she fears him) rather than literally. Also about the dancing in the back, I personally think that is camilo shape shifted as “creepy” Bruno getting ready for his part in the song, but I understand it could still be Bruno since we don’t have confirmation yet.

    • @clear9721
      @clear9721 2 года назад +4

      @@Gracejkay i think its Camilio 100% mainly because of the eyes. When Camilio shape shiftd into him, his eyes turn green whilst the real. Bruno's eyes turn green when he's doing a prophecy so yes

      Dolores was a child when Bruno left, probably around 11. Even if they had taken her seriously the first few times she mentioned hearing "Tio Bruno", when they couldn't find him, someone (Abuela?) probably just said "No more talk about Bruno!" Then everyone's thoughts and feelings just festered for years.

    As others have mentioned-- I have to suspect Dolores eventually gave up trying to let others know about Bruno in the walls...

    Encanto is one of my favorite Disney movies I have seen. The visuals we’re so stunning! AND THE SONGS! I don’t even know what I can say about them. My favorite is “Waiting on a miracle”. No joke, i nearly started crying when I heard the song. Actually, I teared up a few times during the movie. It’s so magical

    I'm from Colombia and I cried since the first minute when I saw all the details about my country. Everything was so accurate: the clothes, the food, the music, the animals, the plants... I loved it! They even included a real fact: forced migration. Abuela's story is the story of thousands of colombians, who had to leave their villages because of violence. Disney made an excellent work representing Colombia in this film! 🇨🇴

    When will people learn...perfection's not only a cruel lie, it's also a joke.
    Why in the blue blazes would ANYONE want to be perfect all the time?

    • @Cheezeblade
      @Cheezeblade 2 года назад +3

      Well thats only a half measure of perfection. Technically,. perfection is when something is flawless, now to make something thats actually flawless to everyone is not possible. But isa actually does acheive perfection. She creates exactly what she feels and she doesnt care about the apsects of it that OTHERS think arent perfect. She accepts all of the qualities of what she makes and that is fundamentally perfect for her.

    • @AquaLucario
      @AquaLucario 2 года назад +7

      Because you don't care about what you yourself want.
      As someone who was the "Golden Child" in their family who struggled with both self esteem issues and Anxiety, I saw my "place" in the family as being the caretaker. I took care of the family. Emotionally, monetarily, physically. My "job" was to get a high paying career so I could take care of my aging parents and my sisters who aren't as "gifted" as me.
      I was raised to be selfless, respectful, and obedient. I wasn't raised to care or worry about myself, but to care and worry for others. It was always for the good of my family. I had to act presentable at all times because my actions would reflect on my family. My Father's business, my Grandfather's position as Pastor, my uncle''s position within the church, all things that my actions would affect.
      I didn't want to be perfect, I had to be. For my family. What's the worth of a single person measured against a whole family? Why shouldn't one person shoulder all those burdens so the rest can be happy?
      It's taken a lot of therapy to get into a healthier frame of mind.

    The thing with Doloris and keeping Bruno hidden vs telling about the vision: look to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”
    Doloris was helping him hide, as she may have had a good idea of *why* he was hiding-she could “always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling.” She also kept Mirabel from seeing him during her part of the song, since he was walking along the second floor balcony in the background therein.
    She told about the vision because she knew it would disrupt the proposal-specifically, Isabela’s proposal to the guy Doloris was crushing on (“He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach, betrothed to another.”)
    Honestly, I see Doloris and Isabela’s visions as opposite sides of the same coin. Isabela was dreaming (and promised) of a life free of being perfect, where her power would grow; she probably wouldn’t have that until much later in her life if she married Mariano, especially with him wanting 5 kids (check her face in the scene when Doloris mentions that-her eyes look like they’re screaming “no-no-no-no-no! Do not want!”). Doloris marries him instead, then Doloris gets the guys she wants, Isabela gets the life she wants. If Doloris’ prophesy fails to come true, then Isabela’s prophesy comes true much quicker than it would have. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    This Movie man... I love it s much! No joke this might be my favorite Disney movie from the 2000s may be below Lio and Stich and Moana but it's up there!
    The message hit me so hard and the Songs are amazing! I related to Isabella a lot personally and quite a bit with Luisa.
    Also Somehow this is the first movie ever that made me think, Who the hell is my favorite character? All of them were so much! I will remember this family more than the one shown in Coco too because most of them didn't really have a character but this Movie's family had such a huge cast but they managed to show everyone a really fun amount!
    10/10 movie to me, Absolutely no complaints!
    If this is how Disney started this Decade! I'm really excited about what they do for the rest of the decade!

    Although I have some colombian friends that thing the movie is a bad representation of colombian reallity, but other think it was a very good effort.
    My favorite songs were surfice pressure, we don't talk about Bruno, waiting for a miracle and dos oruguitas (this was very special to me) the story of abuela y actually remind me the live of my own abuela (not in the exact way, but it trully made me thing in her)

    That river really exists and is called Caño Cristales.
    The valley also exists and is called the Valle de Cocora.
    There is also a little town called Salento.
    Every building, animal, plant, tree, flower, object, color are real.
    You may also be interested in watching this video about El Encanto Nature Reserve @
    The Grandma´s story is the story of 99% of Colombian families. Due to the political violence of the last 100 years, some family member has had to live exactly the same situation.
    Despite all the difficult situations, Colombians can still say that we are happy and that my house is also your house.

    Does anyone else feel like they SHOULDN'T have gotten their gifts back at the end? Seeing as the major theme of the movie is that you are more than your gifts, or what people expect of you.
    I feel like them getting their gifts back lessens the impact of the message.
    All that said this movie was an absolute treat, from the visuals, to the music, to the choreography. It was all just stunning!

    • @dual8776
      @dual8776 2 года назад +4

      I see where your coming from with it lessening the message, but you also have to look at it from the in universe movie perspective. The entire Encanto relies on the Madrigal family and their gifts to sustain their way of life and protect the village if ever need be. If they lost their gifts, even after learning their more their what they're gift are, the entire Encanto would be defenseless and at risk of what happened to Abuela's village happening again. I too like the idea of them losing their gifts, but when the in universe perspective is added into context, I just can't imagine them not getting it back.

    • @midgetmarshmallow3357
      @midgetmarshmallow3357 2 года назад +3

      The message still stands. They ARE more than their gifts, that they are human beings that need to take a break every once in a while and that so much pressure mustn't be heaped onto them just because they are gifted. Just because they have their Gifts back doesn't take away from the message in my opinion. Perhaps because I relate to the pressures of Isa and Luisa, and even after some sort of reconcilliation with family, this doesn't erase my own "gift", it just changes the way my family sees and treats things...
      I guess I'm trying to say, it's all about how you perceive people. Not just by their gifts/natural talents, their grades, their appearance, things they couldn't change. They're more than that, and it's unfair to expect more or less based solely on that.
      Um, yeah. Sorry if I'm unclear and rambly. I am not good with words. But here's my take. :]

    • @shineinouzen7412
      @shineinouzen7412 2 года назад +5

      Without their gifts , they have no way of practicing what they learned in the movie.
      It wouldnt be their choice to realize they are more than their gifts, it wouldn't be their choice to treat Maribel as 100% equal. They would be forced to. Removing their gifts would have made what they learned pointless.

    • @StoryMing
      @StoryMing 2 года назад

      I think the impact of the message WOULD HAVE been lessened if Mirabel had gotten a gift.
      The family experienced that they could manage to get along fine without the gifts. In getting them back they’ll now know that they don’t need to depend on them as a crutch, for their survival.

  • @HannibalFan52

    No, Dolores could not have said anything directly about Bruno. When Bruno disappeared, Abuela Alma forbade any mention of his existence. Pepa, Julietta, and their husbands understood how much she was hurting, but their children did not. Bruno left after Mirabel's 'failed' Gift ceremony when she was five. That means that her sisters, Camilo, and Dolores were teenagers, and Antonio wasn't even born yet. Children would take such a prohibition to heart so as not to upset Abuela, therefore, while Dolores knew Bruno was living in the walls, the best she could do was drop hints to receptive people like Mirabel.
    There are a lot of mirror images in this film, visually and musically. Abuela Alma's melody in 'Family Madrigal' is the same as the verse portion of 'Dos Orugitas'. Both 'Waiting for a Miracle' and 'All of You' start with the opening bars of 'Family Madrigal', but then develop in different ways throughout the film, binding the whole story together. Visually, Mirabel's guiding of the nervous Antonio to his room for the Gift ceremony is perfectly reflected in the confident Antonio walking a nervous Mirabel to the front door of the rebuilt Casita.
    By the way, Lin-Manuel Miranda delivers a wonderful musical pun in 'We Don't Talk about Bruno'. There is a Renaissance song-form featuring several separate melodies that are first sung individually, and then together. It's called a 'madrigal'.
