Mother Nature blessed us with another wonderful day of Indiana geode collecting.. So come along with me on this 3 part journey through some of Southern Indiana’s creeks and a surprise location for the 3rd part! This is part 1. Hunting for Indiana geodes has become one of my all time favorite things to do, followed closely by filming to share with everyone what it's like to be in these creeks and hunt for geodes.

Oooohhh...Dutchman's Breeches. Cool!
I would love to find a place like this and have someone knowledgeable with me. I'd spend hours sitting in one spot. Lol
My friend, I'm looking forward to your videos!!
Wow super cool...There are more geodes than water in this creek. I'm looking forward to the next Episodes. Fantastic 👍
Great video! Wow, can’t wait for the next 2 parts.
Nice job capturing the sound of raindrops. 👍
Great watch! Cheers bro!
Beautiful video I learned a lot keep it up!
I kept saying, "There's one. There's one. There's another," and getting frustrated when you would just walk on by. Then when you yeeted that gorgeous piece of quartz, I died a little inside.
I was hiking in Indiana and found those flowers and fell in love!! great video
Thanks!
This looks like heaven
Nice finds bro and beautiful salamanders 🦎
Hi friend nice place. 👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍
I’m new at hunting geodes. I started last your and just happened upon a creek with the mother load! I’m so hooked. I have the fever. BTW from Michigan
That’s awesome! Once you find one creek, you’ll notice the others a lot more. It’s like the magic of the forest I swear. Hard to find them, but once you do… woooooweeeeee! Glad you found some!
just found your vids.. awesome mate. new sub from NT Australia 👍🇦🇺
Welcome to the GCC fam! It’s a pleasure to have ya here 🤘🏻
I’m gonna have to make a geode trip soon... East to Indiana and north to Keokuk 👍🏼 Great finds!
Pm me.. I’ve got a trip planned out west to the Keokuk area end of next month, maybe we can try and work something out? All in due time my friend. My spots aren’t running out anytime soon haha
You guys should try the Illinois side . I lived in Carthage for 30 years . About 15 miles east of keokuk . There are Lots of small roadside parks between Hamilton and Nauvoo . Many small creeks flowing into the Mississippi River . Most hav geodes in them . Also south of Hamilton towards Warsaw. Check under any bridges you cross . I had a friend that lived in Hamilton with a very small creek/ditch in their back yard . It was full of geodes !! I never had to go to Iowa to find them . They are also found in a creek or 2 around Carthage, but it’s all on private property and a pretty small area . I wish I still lived there and could take u guys to sum killer spots on private property. I moved to mount Ida Arkansas last fall .
@@olmilfishrock wow! Thank you for all of the information! I won’t say too much, but I’m trying to plan a trip out that way at the end of next month!
My wife and I just moved to central eastern Indiana we would love to get into something like this.
I'm new to rock hounding, well I've always picked up pretty rocks sense I was a kid. I was wondering how do you know if a rock is a geode with out cutting it open?
Hope you scored some good ones! No geodes around Fla. LOL. Looks like we're both trying to get to 500
It appears we are! I might be of some assistance there! Find my page on Facebook and shoot me a pm! There’s a community of rock collecting youtubers id love to get you involved with if you aren’t with us already!
Also, love the material you find down there! I’ve watched all of your fossil episodes! I’d love to get my hands on some of the calcite clams or agatized coral you guys have!
Just found your video and was facinated that you found so many geodes. My grand daughter is newly obsessed with geodes and wants to start collecting them. I've told her I would take her to hunt some this summer. In doing my research on the best places to go I came across your video. Could you please share a couple of ideas on where I could take a 13 year old to find them? We live in the Indianapolis area and I was hoping we could do this in a day trip if possible. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Any spots near Mitchell? I'm headed out that way this week.
The star pattern in the crinoid means it is a stem. Fyi!
This is AMAZING 😍 I'm headed to Bloomington this weekend. I've never been there before, do you have any suggestions of where to start?
Find a road cut to start! Anything NOT on a highway, and where it’s safe to do so, you’re allowed to collect. Nodules/geodes come out of there! I can recommend a park that has them, so you know what to look for, but you “aren’t allowed” to take them from there. Jackson creek park. The area is FILLED with loaded creeks, so start there, and venture out! :) trees marked with blue spots indicate public land.
Monroe lake has them on the south shore, again not allowed to collect there, and actively is enforced, but another great spot to get a feel for what they are and how they look
@@GeodeCrackerCollector I didn't know that about the blue mark on the trees. I've only heard about the purple mark on trees. I'm hoping that there is a DISTINCT difference in shades/hues/color between the two!
hey, I am in the Indy area. I need a rock hunting buddy.
Is Leatherwood creek near Bedford a good spot?
I'm in Indiana and I've been wanting to search for geodes! Is this creek public land and are you able to share where to find it?
Go to Monroe lake u will find lots of them
Prohibited on Monroe Lake
Hey, love your videos!! You said, “it’s cool you can see the star” early in the video when referring to a rock “on its way to being a geode.” What do you mean, the star?
How in the world can you decide which ones to take with you? I would want them all!
My son is fascinated with geodes he is 8 we would love to start looking for them it would be a fun thing for the whole family to do I'm in evansville indiana where would be a good place to start thanks man love the vids
Hey great to hear from ya! So glad you enjoy the videos! My daughter is 7 so I get it, we love hunting too! Shoot me an email geodecrackercollector@gmail.com and I can share a couple places with ya!
@@GeodeCrackerCollector thanks man I sent an email.
406 findings recommended you! I live near indiana, where are you hunting geodes at?
This particular spot is Lawrence county, I typically stick near the south side of the lake (never the lake front!) Well I’m glad Travis recommended ya! Welcome!
Are you anywhere Bedford? My niece lives there and from ND lots of geodes near their rural home
Bedford isn’t far from where I hunt! Southern Indiana is LOADED!
What is the name of the creek for this video? Thanks!
I'm in Evansville. Is there anywhere close to here to look?
What Creek are you at?
So where exactly should we go . We are in Bloomington
South of lake Monroe!! There are portions of the forest around the lake you can hunt but it’s tricky there so I don’t even bother, but once you get south past the lake, the creeks start to get loaded!
Thank you I can't wait to go . Thanks for your videos .
Hello, I am writing to ask if you would be able to give me some ideas of good and legal places to hunt for geodes in the Bloomington area. My wife and I are from Michigan and are coming down that way for a quick rockhounding weekend. If you could give us a couple of ideas that would be great though. It is a bit of a birthday (for her) and anniversary trip for us.
Thank you in advance.
Find my Facebook page, same name and photo, and shoot me a message and I’ll point you in the right direction 🤘🏻
Cool Vids I'm in E'ville, I'm a Geode Freak myself..Im wanting to go up to Orange County soon..Are u close to that area?
I’m actually on the south side of Chicago 😅 so it’s about a 4 hour ride to Orange County for me
@@GeodeCrackerCollector Nice..Now 4 hrs is a little bit of a rip..Im taking a wild guess here but I'm Thinking you prob hit the Turkey Run Area?
@@hoosiergeode1561 when I first started hunting them that’s the area I wound up in, now I hunt the creeks south of the Monroe lake
Sweet!! Send me a geode, please
Where can I find geodes in Florida please help me
where is this creek?
This is in southern Indiana
Is this in Morgan Monroe forest
Nope! That’s not far from here though. 15ish minutes when I don’t get lost 😅
Can you find geodes in any creek??
Unfortunately not every creek will yield geodes like this one. The area I collect in is plentiful with geodes. If the area you’re collecting in is known to have geodes, a creek is a great place to look because of the constant erosion, but knowing if they’re there is important. A lot of time can be wasted chasing something not there. Trust me, I know from experience.. 😅
Will you tell me your secret spot and I’ll tell you mine
Lol Ill think it over!
