  • I want to sell my car,so i fix minor stuff to sell a good car for the next owner.
    Je veux vendre ma voiture,alors je répare des problèmes mineurs pour le futur propriétaire.

    The final result looks really great! I especially like how you fixed the blown fuse to the blower resistor

      I just did copy a repair seen online.
      Knowing myself i would have tried to solder the resistor and would have melted the two i've bought in five minutes haha !
      I still would be waiting for new ones today...

      @@michaelovitch yeah me too , soldering always leaves a burnt mess:) . I will have to buy a few of those white cubes, they will come in handy. They are called "sugar cubes" by car mechanics in Scandinavia :)

      @@farerse Here too,they are called "sucres" sugars,because they look like sugar cubes you dump in coffee.
      I guess sugar is in cubes in at least two countries lol

      @@michaelovitch I always assumed all countries had sugar cubes for coffee but now i'm not sure lol . at least france and sweden call these electrical connectors sugar cubes , don't think other countries does that:) Cheers

      @@farerse To be accurate ,they are rectangular parallelepiped here ,i don't know about elsewhere.
      There are maybe straight true cubes in the fancy boxes of sugars or in expensive restaurants or coffee bars and such.
      I don't go there so i can't tell haha.

    That was great! I was second owner of a 21 GTD from 1990. Previous one was my best friend's father. I sold it in 2014 with 472000km on 300€. An awesome car. Resistances for the fan were based on electronics in my case and the problem was usually in the cables and junction of cables. Once I had problems with brake rubber hoses and I had yo travel 500km trying not to brake as the brakes will get half stuck in braking. Good memories in it. As far as I know It finally went yo Africa countries

      500kms without braking is an adventure haha
      A man let me his card on a wiper arm to buy my car,he thought it was a diesel,it was to send it in Africa too.
      At least they don't die,they keep on working where people don't need constant new shiny cars to feel good about their economical choices lol.
      I think the best memories are born in the most modest and honest environment,where things and people have the value they can provide,and not the value they are adverised for.
      I loved my piece of crap moped,i was proud of it,and i got a brand new scooter,i was not so much pleased of it,it had no soul.

    Some funny times with Renault's we've had over the years. My mum's MK1 Clio decided not to start as the immobiliser got stuck and then decided to free it'self at the main dealer, My MK2 Clio's had electrical fault's like dodgy speedo sensors, airbag light, would short when trying to start it etc. Whatever fault it had got fixed and was fine after that. They more than made up for being comfy and having very reliable engines. The winner out of all the Renault's we had was the 5 (Super 5). A pain to start from cold but would run all day and never had a problem with it

      I see regularly a man in ihis renault 5 here,since about 10 years lol
      This guy don't want to give up on it and he is right about that : simple ,economical,and still running well.
      Here people say' renault ,tous les jours un bruit nouveau " (renault,everyday a new noise ) but it rhymes in french lol

      Ours was a 1.1 TL 4 speed and that was pretty economical. Used to do around 35-50mpg and never took it above 60mph. It certainly was a Super 5. There's something unique about old French cars. Much better what's outhere today.

    The french safety inspection really notes a bit loose door hinges and dings on the body? That's thorough! :D

      That's more being picky and justifying their jobs and prices than it's safety related.
      The rear end bushings attaching the rear end to the car were completly blown up,and they never saw anything until i change them.
      They can see rust where others don't,or tolerate or not "defects" depending wher you go.
      It's mostly bullshit to oblige you to come back or not depending on their overal economic situation,local or national.
      We have motorcycles inspection now,and it's even more subjective inspection,they have nothing to test the bikes,they don't even have driver licences where they test those.

    I have 2 Mazdas, both with manual transmissions. What I miss is the feeling of the transmission moving with the engine, when they used rods instead of cables to connect the shifter.

      That's true,you feel exactly what's happening when you have a steel linkage,the whole powertrain is moving,and that's great to feel working.
      Cables suck,and get loose,sloppy, but they get slapped without any adjustment needed at the factory,so they use that.

    The plastics came up really well, i did think about ordinary oil but linseed did the job :-D
    I was surprised that the dent in the hood/bonnet actually mattered for the testing.
    The only problem with oil on plastics is Dust sticking to it :-(
    I hope you get the price you want for your Renault 21.

      Apparently they notice on paper every little detail nowadays here.
      They man told me it was to "avoid complaints from customers claiming the inspector did cause a damage during the inspection"
      That's completly retarded since nothing is established regarding damages before the inspection,so the inspector could damage the vehicle as much he wants ,there would be nothing to prove what so ever.
      I think it's more likely to have something to write on the inspection sheet,to keep justifying their job and no modify the statistics for the government ,so their job and policy too.
      I also think that datas are sold back to the manufacturers ,so they can analyse the lifespan and typical defects of each model,internal datas via the on board diagnostic of each vehicle, like the average mileage,maintenance schedule and stuff like that.
      datas worth more than a national currency nowadays lol,specially in the West where we live.
      I did let the oil soak in,and didn't even touch it for more than a week,and the excess just evaporated,the plastic kept whait it needed ,and the dust don't stik to it.
      You have nearly nothing on the fingers if you rub them on the bumpers.
      I don't think i will the sell the car at this price,it seems too much for me,but i 've seen way more expensive similar models too,so who knows...

      As you said, the paper record of damage means nothing if the man testing the car is the same person that writes down the faults.
      It's like trusting Count Dracula to take care of a blood bank lol .

      @@michaelovitch Lineseed oil has the property to harden into a varnish, when exposed to sunlight (especially UV light), within a few days. This oil barely evaporates. This property has been in use since centuries to prepare classical oil paints. So your supposed excess is now a transparent varnish on the bumpers.

      I saw a bit of the oil dripping down the bumper,si i assumed the excess dryed or oxydised, like any vegetable oil and yes, it hardened on the body panels under the rear view mirrors, i had to clean that with paint thinner.
      I understood that boiled linseed oil evaporate or harden quicker ?
      I guess boiling is the equivalent of distillation in the fuel oil industry , reducing the size of the molecules ,making it thinner ?

    Merci pour cette petite série. Du gros et du petit bricolage de remise en état. Mention spéciale pour l'astuce d'assombrir des pare-chocs défraichis au moyen de l'huile de lin. Je ne connaissais pas cette utilisation potentielle de l'huile de lin, et je vais l'ajouter à la liste des choses à faire sur ma vieille Twingo.
    J'ai repéré votre annonce sur Leboncoin, ça m'a l'air pas mal. Je ne savais pas qu'elle avait 201k bornes, c'est endurant ces vieilles bestioles Renault ! Je vois que vous avez suivi mon estimation vers 1900-2000 €. Je pense sincèrement qu'elle les vaut, j'espère ne pas m'être trompé.
    ça fait bizarre de la voir partir, on l'aura vu depuis tellement de temps sur cette chaine... J'espère que vous nous filmerez encore des aventures automobiles, du partage d'astuces et de bonnes pratiques, avec une autre.

      Je vous conseille le Polytrol de chez Watrol, ça se trouve en magasin de bricolage, application similaire ou pinceau ou au chiffon, et ça tient bien dans le temps. On fait plein de vehicules avec un bidon de 500ml qui coute 15€ !

      Le polytrol est à base de produits pétroliers,et de solvant ,le white spirit.
      L'huile de lin est une huile végétale,et coute 7 euros le litre. (4fois moins cher)
      Le filme brillant en excès s'évapore plus vite si on utilise de l'huile de lin bouillie.
      ça dure très longtemps en tout cas.
      Les deux sont différents,le résultat est bon pour l'huile de lin,j'en ai fait l'expérience je n'ai pas essayé le polytrol,même si j'en ai entendu parler.

      Ce moteur là est un bloc diesel et turbo diesel,reconverti en essence par Renault.
      Il est bien fait et costaud,il y a même des gicleurs d'huile pour refroidir les calottes des pistons par en dessous,ce qui réduit aussi l'usure des cylindres.
      200 000 kms ,c'est peu pour ce moteur.
      J’espère que j'arriverai à la vendre ce prix là,mais j'avoue que je doute,ça me parait beaucoup,malgré le fait que j'ai vu des prix bien au dessus de ça pour un modèle équivalent.
      J'ai ma future voiture qui m'attend depuis 2 ans au moins, garée sur un terrain.
      Il y aura des vidéos là dessus,et il me faut un véhicule en attendant,ma moto a besoin d'un embrayage...

      @@michaelovitch Salut. C'est un peu décevant vu tout l'entretien que vous avez mis dessus. Mais après tout, elle a beaucoup de kilomètres, et cette R21 est ordinaire, n'est pas d'une série spéciale. Mais bon, c'est pas mal quand même, ça fait 250 € de plus que le premier prix. ça montre aussi l'écart entre le prix de vente réel après négociation et le prix affiché sur LBC et les sites d'agrégation des annonces. Bon réveillon à vous, et à bientôt j'espère pour de nouvelles vidéos de mécanique.

      I have a peugeot 206 wich i bought 200€ to replace it.

      Yes and no.
      This car is in the family since 1990,it was my grand parents car.
      It went to my parents,and to me.
      I like using it,but if i have an acident,it's finished for me,the insurance company will not want to repair it,it's too old.
      Parts are no common if i need one for the body.

      The car is insured here too ,it's a legal obligation.
      But if i have an accident,caused by somebody else,the insurance company will not want to repair my car.
      Its value is too small for the insurance company to want to pay for repairs.
      So i will end up with a damaged car,that i should repair myself with my own money if i refuse the insurance company's small amount of money,or the insurance company would scrap it if i accept the money.
      I would loose both ways.
      Parts are not easy to find,and that's the problem now for a daily used vehicle.
