I'm really glad to have happened across this channel. Love the format, old, cool off roaders. Love the videos on the truck as well. As for the paint scheme, I'd definitely vote to keep the THW colors. They're very recognizeable, and I think the white accents really pay hommage to the origins of the truck as an emergency services vehicle, even after the box gets turned onto a truck bed.
Simple fixes for the Magirus. GREAT. Keep the blue, l think that black is a safer choice, easier touch ups. Check that air gets to the trailer hitch, as this is what the truck is for. Electricals as well. Dual cab is good for sleeping in and carrying passengers. Love that it’s now getting fixed for use.
Small world. I had some of these coincidences in my 45 years of passion for weird, rare cars. People are helpful, and were so also already before the internet. Plus: Germans do have a whole lot of superfluous paperwork and extra changes to do for importing or re-registering specialities like formerly THW- or Y-registered machinery. Glad You got a bit of that to get things straight in Denmark. Thanks for sharing.
And we appreciate you, Big K. Some of us were unable to watch you vids right when they come out, cuz of governments being very keen on blocking access to yt these days, but hey-ho - i finally managed to get here.
👍👌👏 Well done fixing ! Even without costing more than a spring, a bulb, some O- rings, a snap ring and some penetration spray oil. 2) I say: Don't fix what isn't broken = keep the blue colour and repair/refresh the white where it's damaged. Can't hurt to have a truck that is visible well! You certainly have better respectively more important things to do than playing around with the colour scheme. For instance fixing the damaged grille and front bumper so that it fits the rest of this well preserved truck again (looks really bad now). 2a) In the long run respectively if it was my truck, I would later add light grey, dark grey, dark blue or black and white or even silver spots so that it looks like the typical camouflage colour scheme. But more for icy/icey regions than green forests/woods. You can definitely do it yourself with templates or even use coloured foil wrap. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.
Nice project, and a great start to this series. I suggest to keep the blue, and change the white to (light)-grey. There are blue-grey combinations that can look very pretty, but it may be not for everybody.
Not only are your videos entertaining but also educational! I knew nothing about air brakes systems before. Thanks! Colour? Olive drab to match your other wagons! Thanks KJ!
Amazing. This is going to be some amazingly fun to watch stuff. I really like this truck, You can make long videos, i like them. Love watching you work. Great job.
Yeah, he can do a two or three hour video and I'd still enjoy watching him fix these cool old trucks. Not to mention all the new stuff I'd learn about.
Leave it blue, remove the white stripes but leave the bumper and the fenders white. But then again, its your precious, do what you like. I have nice memories of these (fire)trucks. The fire department in my hometown used to have these in the late 70's to the end of the 80's. I've recreated them for trainsim classic as you can see in my video's.
My vote is to paint it military green, it would suit it so well. It was great to see what could have been major issues turn out to be not much more than maintenance issues. It an awesome project. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺
GREAT video there, fella I think personally i would ether go all white with black bumper or keep it blue with black bumper and white go faster stripes I REALLY hope you keep those sides that fold down (Never seen anything like it before.. BRILLIANT IDEA) MAYBE A LIGHT Bar on top for towing, heavy winch, and a small crane would make this the PERFECT work truck ! OH AND DONT WORRY MAKING LONG VIDS WE WILL DEFINITELYWATCH THEM !! .
sometimes it is a small world indeed, glad you got the papers sorted! Don't worry about the box, it's your truck it's gotta be useful to you. I think the blue looks cool, maybe change the white parts to another color though. Maybe you can import a photo on a computer and use the bucket fill tool to change the color, then you can see what looks good?
Cool truck, this one is not giving you so much grief 😊. I like the blue, would look good with the black bits going put back to black. As for the white stripe, I don’t mind it and it hints towards the trucks history….. your choice.😀👋🇬🇧
Blue and black would look great. I'd lose the white stripe, but hey, that's just me. Love the way you diagnosed the throttle problem! Nice trouble shooting KJ!
Mod the box they way you want. I suggest cutting the box down and adding a crane. A rear 20k lbs winch would be useful. I love that you are able to take on projects like this.
Congrats for the positive paperwork. Blue is a great color. Black or White details are both great. I hope you add a hidraulic crane to the rear bed to use it instead the ford backhoe to up weights
Great to see that all the paperwork worked out in the end. Indeed, it's a small world when you work with old trucks and equipment. I would be in favor of keeping the blue. I like the white accents, but as a German I might be biased. Another benefit of keeping the blue color would be, that the inside and outside still match colors. I hate it if army trucks get resprayed but in side the cap they are still NATO olive.
Clean all of those ball joints and pivot points, get rid of that sticky grease. Re grease all of the joints and pivot points with a fresh coating of grease. That should help a bit. As for the parking brake issue, I would install a water separator and filter on the line going to the parking brake release valve. It will help keep moisture out of the valve and any rust debris that might come from the air tank. If you can find a separator filter for the average shop air compressor that can handle the pressure I would use it. Another issue is the air tank itself. They need to be drained at least once a week to keep moisture out of the system. Looks like a promising project.
I'd swap all the bulbs to LED and install yellow LED fog lights. I've used led headlights in my car (and retrofitted onto a 1984 motorcycle) for a while and I've used yellow fog lights and they are amazing in heavy fog.
personally i would keep the blue - saves also respraying the inside, underside and the inside of the doors and it really doesn't look bad in blue - the white bumpers i kinda like
Nice old Magirus Deutz, one of the good Trucks from Germany. That´s the color of Technisches Hilfswerk (THW),I think blue and black looks good and you don´t have to paint the whole truck. For the bed I think it would good to change the step to a rear side wall and in the front too. That´s only cabin walls and not stable.
Nu har jeg set en god del af dine film, og jeg holder så meget af indholdet, at jeg nu valgte og trykke følg. Bliv ved med dette, for dette er nyttigt for os, der er Autofile😀
I'm curious: what's the valve left of the parking brake and to the right of the steering column? Is it to shortly release the trailer brake to test if trucks parking brake can hold it or something else? The fire engines with these types of winches i know, usually have an "all wheel drive" parking brake. Something you can switch on, so the front brakes stay engaged while you use the winch. Have you seen anything like that?
It does have a "Trailer-brake-test-vale" like that, but that is in the floor, over by the clutch pedal. The one you have spottet, next to the steering column, it for the rear diff-lock. :) Well, i think mine is too old/mechanical ho have that kind of brake. But i have seen some trucks, that have parking brakes on all wheels. but all the ones i have seen had full air-brakes as well. But now that i think about it. in theory, if you lock the center diff. the parking brake on the rear, would partially effect the front as well
Black stripes on that blue would look good in my mind anyway, in white and blue looks a little Adidas, as for the box on that back. well that's up to you but a flat bed would be very much more practical in your line, thank you for your videos
Hi KJ, I've been following the Magirus project since I am about to purchase a similar unit, albeit in worst conditions. Do you have any service manual or other type of documentation on the 170d11 that you could share? appreciate it Regards from Argentina
You don't seem to be getting beat up quite so badly on this truck. My black and blue is a good color choice. Lightly bruised instead of completely chewed up and spit out.
hI Kasper, are you working for keolis on fixing buses?I am from Montreal Canada and we have keolis to.they own orleans express coach company who are doing many lines around like Montreal to Quebec city,As you said ,world are so small. .I like the way you are explaining what you are doing, keep the good work from a old motor coach operator subscriber in Canada.
do you consider using modern LED bulbs as replacements they are brighter and make less heat its a good upgrade for these older vehicles and btw my Pinzgauer has the same tail lights some people say it looks like a cheeseburger.
@@ryang5441 In EU (and usually countries that apply the law) you need to have both the light and bulb compatible. There are now some legal options for main beams on some headlights. But that is also only for some EU countries...

Hi, new here. Video too long ? No way. Keep colours, white helps visibility to others in dark hours. Many thanks fron UK.

Damn, that throttle linkage goes halfway around the world 😂
Thanks, KJ! I’m living vicariously through your projects 😉 Great work, great channel 👍
Thank you very much, Daryl!
It's good to know you enjoy the videos :)

It is indeed very nice that i have been able to keep the repair cost at near zero, so far :)

Nice project, and a great start to this series.

Go blue all over and just keep black wheels 💯 loving these videos here from England 🏴 #newfavourite youtuber

Great to see progress on the Magirus. You made a lot of progress in this video. I'm sure whatever choice you make with the paint I will like it.

It’d make a great camper. I know it’s a pain, but it’s uniquely suited for that.
My Friday is complete. Leave the color scheme, I think it's a great combo. And I like the idea for the rear
Blue and black would look great. I'd lose the white stripe, but hey, that's just me. Love the way you diagnosed the throttle problem! Nice trouble shooting KJ!
Not just you, i love the blue but the white is a nogo. Black would fit i guess way better!

The winch is already there 🙂
A crane would be nice, though
@KJOff-Road A knuckle boom crane behind the cab with fold down bed sides would be the most useful mods I can think of.
Love this truck !
Congrats for the positive paperwork. Blue is a great color. Black or White details are both great. I hope you add a hidraulic crane to the rear bed to use it instead the ford backhoe to up weights
I´m working on a slightly smaller Mercedes 407 THW truck and changed the white parts into black. Much much better! :)
Blue with grey or black, either would be sharp and easy to keep clean.

Paint it Olive Drab. Doesn't matter if colour is darker or lighter in places, it all looks good.

What a fantastic vehicle! Please keep the box as is and use it as a “will it start” vehicle. Did I say it was an awesome vehicle?
Black, yes. Maybe think about yellow reflective diagonal strips.
I'd swap all the bulbs to LED and install yellow LED fog lights. I've used led headlights in my car (and retrofitted onto a 1984 motorcycle) for a while and I've used yellow fog lights and they are amazing in heavy fog.
Could the accelerator linkage be simplified with a cable system?
👍
Great project starting to come together, I'd keep the blue and go black on the white parts.
but then you wont be able to see the edges at night.
personally i would keep the blue - saves also respraying the inside, underside and the inside of the doors and it really doesn't look bad in blue - the white bumpers i kinda like

24:10 Lol someone used two drum brake springs with a zip tie to make that throttle return spring.😂
its so nice!
They're bed springs aren't they? Great find there Marcus!
Make the rear part of the cabin into a sleeper cab for longer trips.
I would think about adding an electric pump for tilting the cab. Keep the hand pump for backup.

It looks like it’ll be a useful truck. Is a ramp at the back possible, would it be a big enough deck for anything you might need to move?
I'm gonna have to test out a few things, to see what will, practically fit up there 🙂
blue and black
Black stripes on that blue would look good in my mind anyway, in white and blue looks a little Adidas, as for the box on that back. well that's up to you but a flat bed would be very much more practical in your line, thank you for your videos

do you plan to procur repair/parts manuals for this beast? love your problem solving abilities...
Casper is a professional bus mechanic, he just knows the stuff
I have already been sent, and Gathered a lot of it :)
Paint it camo!
Pretty sure that fog light switch is for the headlights

Good for making camper truck.
I think they messed it up by painting the black parts white. Repaint the white parts black, and I think you'll be happy.

White doesnt go that well with this dark kind of blue.
but I do like the blue, so try replacing the white with black
Turn the white stripes into dark blue....
Keep the blue, lose the white. It's not a ship :)
Could that air line vent back to the tank on a one way valve?
Aw, too bad your lens has debris on it still from when you picked up the truck and sprayed it with fuel.
