  • Martin and Anthony from St John Ambulance Australia share with us some First Aid tips when out riding. What should you do when a cyclist comes off and is bleeding heavily and / or suffering from shock?
    - Ensure there is no other danger to anyone else
    - Make sure the incident area is made as safe as possible
    - Call 000 immediately (or the emergency number for the country in which you are)
    - Actively stabilise the patient and minimalise their movement
    - Attempt to stem the bleeding
    - Treat for shock by lying the person flat and elevating the legs unless the legs are too damaged - this helps blood go to the main organs, but especially to the brain
