It's Sh*te Being Scottish

- When we decided Scotland’s first men’s tournament in 23 years was the story of this summers Euro’s everyone told us to expect the unexpected. But even we couldn’t have foreseen the absurdity, the madness and the highs and the heartbreak. Scotland is arguably the football nation when you look into their history and relationship with the game. If you look at the very fabric of their society, for good or for bad, football is interwoven into it. This is a story as fascinating as any we have ever told.

Just when I thought COPA 90 docs couldn’t get any better… Eli you’ve outdone yourself here
Yeah this episode is up there with the Boca v River Plate Derby, and the Old Firm Derby!! Eli is a #LEGEND of football media!
eli if you're reading this please do a documentary about NFL.go to rutgers and ask them how they started to play football with their hands and how the ball became egg-shape.
As a Scot, I can honestly say that this doc was as good as it gets. Everything about Scottish football summed up in an hour. The most realistic and accurate piece of work out there. It is shite being Scottish but we wouldn’t change it for the world
This doc showed me the pain all football fans feel but seems the Scott's have been gutted more than most, will be rooting for Scotland as a neatural from here on out knowing their history, cheers
@@johnnydeleon8210 As a London lad I hope Scotland makes it to the World Cup, but I can't cheer against Ukraine in their next game.
Apart from calling rod stewart Scottish🤦♂️
What a difference a year makes eh
I was just thinking, if you're going to try and sum up the Scottish psyche in one phrase then, "Ah for fucks sake, no again!" is that phrase. X
"We were like Dickensian orphans staring through a window at something we couldn't touch " That's the funniest comment I've heard in a long time brilliant.
It is a brilliant metaphor!
We Came,
We Saw,
We got Pished,
And we Boogied...
And we'll do it all again for as long as football exists 💙
ARGENTINA Y ESCOCIA , FUCK ENGLAND
Finally! He's back.
He's back with a bang! 💥
Damn @ Rabona TV I haven’t had any of your episodes come up lately and I’m suBscribed too. Goal for today when I have some free time is make a playlist featuring all Rabona TV episodes. After all it is the second best football show on RUclips! That’s mostly because of your questionable Choice of being a Benfica supporter LOL JOKING! Seriously though your channel is great Adrian!!!!
@@copa90stories hey copa 90! I beg you. Can you please make a video on the second division of Greece this season? We have lots of interesting teams down there.!especially my home town club pierikos
As a Serb, I was absolutely devastated when Mitrovic missed the penalty and sent you to the Euros instead of Serbia. It has haunted me ever since that we missed the Euros - however, after watching this great documentary I can better cope it. You have been suffering a lot following your national team as well and you definitely deserve some successes. Hope you qualify for 2022!
You would've played against Croatia if you qualified aswell👀👀
I’m sure beating Portugal was joyful
God bless you 🇷🇸
@@LHeyMX I cannot describe the feeling when Mitro scored the header

Even though I'm English I really feel for Scotland, I'm studying in Scotland and I love it here. When I'm not up to my neck in my history degree, I'm ground hopping around Scotland. Love the football, the atmosphere, the fans are amazing.

@@gordonlynch771 I think I might do. Planning to go into teaching. Dreading the day Scotland play England in a major final. Its be support Scotland or get punched by my own students...
@@joshquinn4964 to be honest, and I only say this as a former PGDE student of 2013 and my wife being a primary school teacher (graduated with PGDE in 2014) there's a real issue of having loads of teachers in Scotland and not enough jobs. @GordonLynch. If you ever consider coming to Australia to teach. We need them in all states desperately.

Just watched Scotland beat Spain 2-0 in a 2024 Euro Qualifying match and couldn't help but think of all the long suffering people in this video and how much they must be enjoying this moment. I'll be drinking some Tennents in their honour today.
I love Eli's ability to get so invested and passionate watching ANY football match no matter who's playing
This is a literally masterpiece, loved every second of it
As a Yank who was taken by storm when introduced to the English Prem in 1996, and has been obsessed with the British football culture ever since, I’ve wanted to dive more into the Scottish side of things….this top draw doc is the kick up the backside I needed to immerse myself in it! The Scots seem like football-crazy, hyper-loyal, salt of the earth, and hilarious blokes whom anyone would be lucky to watch 90 mins with in a pub. Lover this vid, thank you Eli!
Shite league tho fella, wouldn't bother following it
@@SoulsofEmber99 yeah mate I know quite a bit about Hibs, Gers, Celtic, and handful of others that I don’t know much about, but know of them. The league is shite, but the passion is world class, and that is incredibly attractive to a football nut like meself.
@@beane10 watch the old firm games is my suggestion
What the Scottish league lacks in finances and fair, it more than makes up with it with passion and loyalty. The English premiership is a boring, surgically clean, tourist league. Hibernian V Hearts is the OLDEST top flight derby in the world and still one of the most passionate. Dundee derbies are insane too ... its doesnt have to be about Rangers and Celtic all the time.
@@HarcusCGTV english premiership is not boring at all. you've got the derbies but the same champions every year. league has been getting poorer in the last 10-15 years
“You know how important it is to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth? That’s football!” - Bertie Auld, Lisbon Lion

Say what you want about Scotland but they're one of if not the best supported nation in the world imo. Just look at the tartan army in Paris. They come to take over every city they come to. Love the Scottish!!!

Georgian here - been to both of those games you lost in Tbilisi. Sorry :) you guys created amazing atmosphere both on stands and in the city. We even played friendly between Geeogian & Scottish fans.
That’s brilliant and how it should be done with fans of different nations interacting and enjoy themselves
I was at the first one. Terrible result for us but the Georgians were superb! I also made it to another game in Tbilisi a few years later when Georgia scored late on to beat Croatia 1-0... Fantastic!

About 5 minutes in to this I thought it was going to a bit cheesy, too hipster, but I kept watching. At 11 minutes I checked how long was left and was stunned to see it was 50 minutes. I had no intention of watching it all. Yet here I am, at the end, with tears in my eyes. You absolutely nailed what it has been like to be a Scottish (non-Old Firm) football fan for the past three decades. Today, the day after we pounded Denmark, it feels like we're just coming full circle. Could the best days still be to come?
I just wanna hug every person who worked/appeared on this. I need to go to Scotland immediately. Love from Argentina, you taught us how to play the game. Alex Watson Hutton, a scottish immigrant created the Argentine Association Football League and fought for football to be practiced as a regular sport in schools. Still haven't picked a team to support but I need to travel there.
Support St. Johnstone FC, they deserve more fans and they won the cup double last season for the first time in their history.👍🍻
I will accept your hug
Take an umbrella.
Love the documentary, especially having grown up in the era of Colin Hendry when they were playing in the 98 World Cup. Hopefully, they can build up on Billy Gilmour and Andy Robertson. Good luck to you all ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

Your channel is a criminally underrated! Love from Morocco 🔥🔥
This is excellent. Very well done. You should do one on Scottish "Junior" football, which is unique in its own characters and characteristics. Basically our non-league. The Ayrshire teams are mental. The rivalries are crazy.
Talbot vs cummnock is class
I'm a Linlithgow Rose fan. There's 15,000 people in this town and about the same over the hill in Bo'ness. Yet I've seen a cup semi final between the clubs that drew a crowd of almost 10,000. I've been at cup finals with about 8,000 Linlithgow Rose fans, and then pretty much the entire town in the High Street for the open top bus celebration when we got back with the trophy. You don't realise how nuts that is until you learn about other countries.

Incredible how some of the smallest nations in football have given so much to the game.
- Scotland - 5 million [passing game, turn stiles, legendary managers]
- Uruguay - 3 million [first world champions, first world cup hosts, first South American champions, first S. american club champions, first south american club world champions]
Yeah.
Yeah Uruguay has around the Population of Berlin. Most of it located around Montevideo. But their Impact on football is massive!
I wonder what the population was at the time of their two WC wins...
@@yannick245A million
@@BC-th3mx So a ¼ of Uruguay's population would have fit into the Maracanã back then.
I feel like Morocco’s NT story is similar to Scotland’s, even better they’re intertwined.
Up to 98 WC, we had a decent qualifying record and we were leading the way among African and Arab Nts on the World cup stage.
In 98, we drew 2-2 with Norway, lost to Brazil 3-0 then we beat Scotland 3-0.
Everybody expected Brazil to walk on Norway in their last game, if they did that we would’ve qualified.
Yet Brazil inexplicably conceded 2 late goals, and lost to Norway. To this day, it still looks like a shady game.
But then Morocco couldn’t qualify to a WC until 2018. We dominated Iran in the first game, only for our striker to score a last min header own goal , we lost 1-0.
Second game, we played better than Portugal but we lost from a CR7 header…. Last game, Spain barely managed to nick a 2-2 against us in the dying minutes of the game.
We played well, but without tangible results and with lots of frustration to live with.
Thanks for sharing, Football is life.
Goog stuff, Aza! ✌🏼❤️🥂 from Colorado, USA.
The amount of travelling during this shows how much effort this must have took
I loved this video. It was beautifully edited, and it was incredibly informative. My only complaint is that no one mentioned AC/DC turning up at the Apollo in Glasgow wearing Scotland strips in 1978. The Young brothers and Bon Scott were Scottish, and that performance played a massive part in one of the greatest live albums of all time. It was that legendary, a name like Umbro have recently released the Scotland strips that the band worn that night.

One of the best hours I've spent in years!! Tartan Army forever!! Thanks Eli and all that made possible..
Wow, I have never watched an hour long video so fast. From the historical insight of Scottish football to the tribulations of the national team, this was just exceptional. Well done.
Took me around 60 minutes
I come Scottish ancestry and have family. I stand more behind them than South Africa in football. Because nothing happens in SA football. Was emotionally invested behind them in Euros disappointed they couldn't go to knockouts. But this is the beginning of new breed of talent who will flourish in future tournaments.
”I mean we’re talking about 20 straight years of failed qualification campaigns..”

Another amazing docu. Excellent. I sincerely hope that Scotland qualify for the 2022 World Cup through the play-offs, but first of all I'm looking forward to tonight's game Scotland vs Denmark.
Please just let us win!
My first experiences of Scotland were at Euro 96 and France 98 as a 7 and 9 year old boy. I was at every home game for the 2008 qualifying campaign and was broken by the Italy game at Hampden. So I thank you, honestly from the bottom of my heart, for truly encapsulating the mood of the nation before and during the tournament! Scotland's back and we're not going away easily!!! 💪 #ItsShiteBeingScottish
'I'm going to Finland and I'll tell their fucking story had me LOL
that intro is absolute masterpiece. really "introducing" the audience towards Scotland aura via the famous Trainspotting scene. Unbelievable documentary!
I’m English and I loved this documentary - full respect to the Tartan Army a great fan base 👍
Great documentary. Now i appreciate my national team even more. Funny thing, in those 20 years of Scotland suffering, my Croatia had some great results but for some reason couldn't beat Scotland. 2 losses and 3 draws in 5 games. We finally managed to beat them in 6th attempt in maybe the most important match we had. As i'm writing this, i'm watching Scotland U19 vs Croatia U19 qualifiers and Scotland just scored equaliser in 90 min for 1:1, so there's that 🤦. Cheers to Scotland fans 🍻.

Awesome, great programme. Perfectly timed too, it feels that we've turned a corner.
It used to be a story of "What could have been", right now it is a case of "What it could be".
Its great being Scottish, and a Scottish football fan, great video, and you had a very brief clip of my team. Scotland has had a hard history, football is the escape from that. Did you know that Scotland won the homeless world cup, its true, mostly promising young players who overcame alcohol problems. The Tartan army are the finest army the world has ever seen, they even police themselves, so there are no atrocities. The Scots and Irish often qualify for the fans fair play awards.
