    I love your video! As a soapmaker, I recommend adding your essential oils to the slightly warm plant oils BEFORE adding the lye so it has time to fully incorporate throughout the entire batch! For regular body soap, I recommend mixing the essential oils with clay (2 TBSP per pound) at least 10 minutes before adding to the oils. This will help anchor and retain the scent! :)

    I loved your recipe. Since I was running out of dish soap and didn't feel like ordering via Instacart or heading to the store (and I already make my body soap bars, shampoo bars and facial bars), this seemed like no brainer. However, instead of using CP process I used HP and added an orange essential oil once the soap cooled to perfect temp. Then I stirred it well and poured into my silicone muffin pans (perfect size bar). I let them sit for 12 hrs,unmolded and let them rest for additional week. Well, all but 1 since saponification was done. I am in awe. It washed my non dishwasher and stainless steel pots and pans so good. Never going back to store bought junk.
    Thank you for an awesome recipe.

      I use a jar lid ring. It works really well, and even when the bar gets small, you can lean it against the side. There will be a small discolored spot. on the bar, but I have never known it to effect it's cleaning power.

    Love your channel and I just made these bars last night. They turned out beautifully. I didn’t have the orange oil you used so I used a combination of red Mandarin, sweet orange, and lemon essential oils. The fragrance is quite faint but at least it has some of the cleansing properties citrus offers. Thank you so much!

    I've made a similar dish soap and it's great. I scented it with lemon essential oil and powdered lemon zest, and I added some sodium citrate (to improve the lathering in hard water). I also infused my oils with annatto seeds to make the bars yellow (to match the lemon scent).

    I just finished making this recipe, it was very easy, but I noticed it took me a lot time to reach trace, I think I still didn't see it, I was noticing a lot of bubbles, and it got thick almost like think pudding or eggnog, but still not trace, most other recipes I would only trace for 2 min or less. I poured it into the mold, and not waiting to see how it turns out. I am a beginner this is my third soap, very excited about this. thank you

    Hi-I’m just starting to experiment with soap making so I’m still on a learning curve. I recently made a batch of dish soap from a recipe very similar to yours. I put it in a loaf mold & when i unmolded it to cut it into bars it crumbled. I’m sure I followed the recipe exactly. My question is…is it always better to use individual molds for solid dish soap? It seems so hard that I can’t imagine being able to slice it. Thank you!

      it's hard for me to say how long it will last, there are so many variables. for me it's a couple weeks per bar. but i'd recommend NOT getting your. coconut oil from amazon, it's cheaper to get from an actual soap supplier, like here nurturesoap.com?aff=326

      You can get coconut oil for $12 at big lots. That's the best deal I've seen.

      @@HeartsContentFarmhouse Thanks! Sorry I have so many questions! Can you combine them at a lower temperature? Can you reheat lye water? Is the 5.41 once’s of lye EXACT I got 5.4 oz, will that work? My scale only does 1 decimal point.

      @@ellierehl7239 yes you can combine them at lower temps. I do it often. as long as the oil is still melted and they oils and water are similar in temp it will be fine. and the lye is supposed to be exact, but I never worry about .01 :)

    Why do you heat the oil to 140? Why can't you just heat it to the 110 final temp?

    • @HeartsContentFarmhouse
      @HeartsContentFarmhouse  4 года назад

      i do it that way so that the lye water and oils will be around the same temperature at the same time as they cool

    Is there something that can be added to make it a little more moisturizing and still keep it safe for dishes

    • @HeartsContentFarmhouse
      @HeartsContentFarmhouse  4 года назад +2

      you could change the percentages and make it heavier on the olive oil. you would need to run it through a lye calculator, but more olive oil will still clean dishes well, just needs a longer cure time :)

      not yet! i should do one! (except there is no rhyme or reason to what I do! I usually let everything harden into soap and then wash it off outside)
