    I made my household soap this morning but I use coconut oil, tallow and castor oil in the oil mix and add lemon and petitgrain essential oils after trace. I have clients that LOVE this soap especially for cleaning pots/pans/cutlery and other household cleaning jobs since it leave a high shine. Even baths and basins shine with it. For the laundry I just grate it up and use it half 'n half with washing soda. As a solid bar it's excellent as a laundry stain bar too.

    Hi, I have a question. Can you make dish wash soap from glycerine soap, or does it make the soap a less effective cleanser? I want to make a dish wash soap which I can remelt, to melt the left over bits together again, but I don't want the soap to be less effective of course. All hints are welcome! Thanks :)

      You can do that, for sure, but being more moisturising maybe it will leave some white streaks! Worth trying though.

    another question: is it better to use extra virgin oil or refined one?

    • @BottegaZeroWaste
      @BottegaZeroWaste  4 года назад +5

      I like to use the refined one because it's lighter and you also have less chances of getting oil spoilage or too much moisture which could lead to mold. In my opinion, it is also unnecessarily expensive for soap making - best to use it in food! But that being said, you can also use extra virgin olive oil.

    • @karan25535

      @@BottegaZeroWaste 5% superfat would mean that for every 100 grams of soap I can add 5 grams of extra coconut oil if I don't wish to go for lye discounting?.....so if I want to make the soap more cleansing and yet ensure that there is no extra lye remaining in it, I can remove 2 grams of coconut oil from the recipe per 100 grams which would reduce superfat to 3% but ensure enough safety lye buffer? I don't want white streaks left behind in my dishes so I thought reducing the superfat further to 3% may be helpful, what do you think?

    • @Beth_White
      @Beth_White 4 года назад +1

      You could add some coconut essential oil for an extra coconut kick. You can calculate the amount of essential oil needed for the recipe on the bramble berry website. I’ve just done this recipe today with lemon essential oil to help cut grease and it smells delightful 😊

    • @HareAndHive
      @HareAndHive 3 года назад +2

      If you love the smell of coconut oil, buy the unrefined, virgin coconut oil as this has a naturally coconutty scent to it but you can also add a small amount of fragrance oil to it as well. Make sure to keep it at no more than 3% your total batch weight though as some fragrance oils can cause irritation of more sensitive skin

    Thank you, I loved your video! Do you know How long does it last and if this coconut soap expire? I am planning to make my own dish soap and would be great to make them once per year only :)

    • @HareAndHive
      @HareAndHive 3 года назад

      Soap is like red wine and cheese, the longer you leave it before use, the better it gets! Making a large batch once a year sounds like a great plan! Soaps don't actually expire but they can develop orange spots one them, this is normally from rancid oils. Should you find this on any of your soaps, you can still use them but if you like you can simply shave them off using a grater. Coconut oil soaps are extremely hard and long lasting, I've had a 100% coconut oils soap last 6 months before now!

    • @BottegaZeroWaste
      @BottegaZeroWaste  4 года назад

      Yes you could, although it will be a different soap and I think glycerin melt and pour soap base has a lot of glycerin so it may not be as cleansing as this soap!

      You can use a (washed) Pringle’s can, then just peel the paper can off and you would have a cylinder of soap, that you can cut to multiple pieces. You can also use plastic things; for example cut the bottom of your milk jug or any plastic bottle, and use that as a mold. I wouldn’t recommend anything metal or wood, as these just get stuck.

    Nice video but be careful, don't forget to mention to Internet users that you have to release the soap before using it to wash clothes. Substances naturally present in soap, such as glycerin, are not recommended, as they will clog the washing machine in the long term. The release, allows to obtain a soft natural surfactant for the machine with a more satisfactory result for the laundry 😉
