- Tale of the Tongues, Male Version. Sung by Michael Gough, who also is the voice actor of many skyrim characters like Ralof from the stormcloaks or Vilkas from the companions.
Music and background picture used in my video belong to Bethesda Softworks. Video made by me, I editted the pause parts out of the song, so now it is more fluent.

• Malukah - Tale of the ...
Personally I find this the best version of the song,
and that is because he sings it with more passion than his fellow bard companions. But everyone has their own taste right? so..
Enjoy! =)
I love how this was the only bard without awkward pauses
lol he edited out the pauses but other than that yeah definitely best bard
+Jacob Traum The pauses are just too long. In this, they're too brief. If you try to sing along, you have no time to catch your breath, so unless you sing for almost 2 minutes without breathing you're screwed. But in the vanilla game, the pauses are awkwardly long.
At first the missing pauses bothered me, because it's different.. then I noticed just how much better it makes it.
Search for FFS - better bards, it's a mod that removes the annoying awkward pauses between the lines in-game (and also download the manual version and use the optional file "slight pause" )
I can remember being completely stunned by Ogmund's performance when I first encountered him in Markarth. The first and maybe only Bard in Skyrim I thought was just fantastic.
I know what you are talking about, he was actually the second bard I listened too, the first was what's his name in the Bannered Mare, I hated both this character and his voice, he now lies dead on the floor, but Ogumund I literally just sat there and listened to him for half and hour
Hell yeah bro
I'm split between Ogmund's and Lisette's versions. Both are really good but I agree that Ogmund's version feels like a 1st person account.
Best bard song... Other ones are meh.
forcefin this my favorite but age of oppression is a close second. Of course it's better without the wired pauses
I like age of aggression.
this version feels more tavern-ish. you know unplugged. more genuine than malukah. ofcourse her version is great, too.
+django jango It feels rawer. Like this guy witnessed his town getting ripped apart by the dragons.
+django jango as much as I liked hers, it was too pretty
Might be because it is a bard in game.
Picture Vilkas singing this. I'm dying.
diamondgame83 This is the voice actor who does Vilkas. I pictured the normally serious and composed Vilkas dancing around, singing and celebrating Alduin's glorious defeat in my head. And I thought it was funny.
you have a point.....
Menthol Cherry vilkas would love to sing praise of the harbinger of the companion
+Menthol Cherry This audio is actually Talsgar the Wanderer, who is voiced by the same guy as Vilkas, so it might as well be Vilkas singing it.
Stanley Ramsrud also Ogmund the skald
I actually like this more than the Maluchkah, It has more heart in it. Since its a old man signing it, it has more weight
Exactly, it seems like he's a real nord, who has witnessed his home torn apart by dragons and war, family and friends die, and the beginning of the end of an empire.
+6Rock6God6 The singer happens to be a voice actor from the game, this is actually a direct audio clip from one of the bards singing it in-game, most likely Talsgar the Wanderer (who has the best voice of the bards in my opinion)
+Stanley Ramsrud I know that, it Michael Gough, who voiced Ralof, Vilkas, and many others. This is his recording for Ogmund, the bard in Markarth.
+6Rock6God6. its Ogmund? i guess ive never noticed him because im always out wandering the roads and im constantly running into Talsgar so im more accustomed to hearing it from Talsgar. And the voice clips are identical due to Ogmund and Talsgar having the same voice actor so technically im not wrong. I could have just said "generic male nord voice" sang it.
+Stanley Ramsrud I wish i could have Talsgar as a follower and have him serenade me as we adventure about Skyrim
This song brings chills down my back every time I hear it... Really, this is why I love the Elder Scroll series. It is the kind of games that gives you that epic feeling... I dunno, maybe I'm taking the game to serioiusly, but I sweat, this song makes me cry.
havent been this emotional about a game since the opening of windwaker
Jed ikr it’s probably the best song in the game
the feather is mightier than the sword, but the thu'um is louder!
I can't believe Vilkas is singing
This is absolutely the best version in existance.
Please never hide this vid. It's the absoute best version of the song out of all the versions and I'm sure I'm hardly alone in believing you did amazing with the pause edits and made epic lyrics. I come back every few months to give another listen every since it came out.
Thank you so much for making it the whole decade back. I can't even say how much it means
Thank you for your kind words! Don't worry, even 10 years later this song is still there for everyone to enjoy !.
@@Henswa could you do this with the woman's voice? That one is also beautiful
I love this Bard song the best on Skyrim, who's with me?
TrollForce Yeah!
*claps vigorously* BEAUTIFUL! I TEARED UP AT MIKE'S VOICE! SUCH SMOOTH CHANGE IN THE NOTES!
This is the version Ogmund sings, his version is best, both because of his voice but also because of the sound in the Inn where he plays.
I remember listening to that guy who was singing it in an inn, and I loved it so much I listen to it every time I enter now.
I named my dog alduin. He was four years old. Yesterday he got hit by a car and passed away. I would always play him this song, and he would howl and howl to it, like a dragon. I miss him so much.
The only reason of why I stayed in Markarth
this makes me want to play skyrim again oh my god...
You should. Me and my fellow guards miss your antics.
Balgruuf is singing :D
best bard song in the game :3
he is my favorite bard out of evrybody and I can't stop listning to him. Ogmund is amazing
Scratch that, you're right... and WOW. Michael Gough sounds just like Maurice LaMarche. If it were any other two voices compared I could probably just shrug it off... but here, it's mind-boggling.
beautiful...i never heard this song before and it almost made me cry.
when he sings it I cry it just so bootiefull
I,ve gotta say this is way better than the dragon born comes
My favorite song in skyrim. At the end when he sky shattering thu'um I always go FUS-RO-DA!!! It goes really well if you do it right
When i first heard this song i felt a rush of emotions pouring out from the lyrics
Absolutely beautiful.
Malukah ruins the song by starting to sing a second song in the middle of singing this one. I don't see why anyone thinks she did a better job
No taste in good music friend
most agreed with DrPeep
I have to agree with DrPeep47. That schematic worked well for her Dragonborn Comes cover. But it sounds like a pretty cheap way to unnecessarily lengthen this song. It doesn't help that she starts in the middle, like you said. Maybe it would be better if she'd done it like in Dragonborn comes and sing the second song at the end?
This guy sounds gravel-voiced and all over the place, while Malu has a smooth, dark, airy voice. This almost sounds like they're happy that people are running off to fight and die, and by any voice teacher's standard is sub-par.
Also, addressing the 'other song' in the middle of Malu's performance, it was spot-on. It matches with her version of this song perfectly, and the dirge-styled Dovahkiin chant is easily my favorite part of the performance.
If you truly believe this guy sings it better, I advise you to study music more so you know what constitutes a good sound from the human voice. This...is not it.
Rob A How the fuck can you study what sounds good? It's like saying "you evidently haven't studied aesthetic beauty" while pointing at a perfect photograph of Lake Baikal and saying it looks like shit.
Beauty is an opinion. If something sounds good, it sounds good. If something is seen by you as beautiful, it is beautiful to you. You can't study beauty. You can study music to compose something beautiful out of pieces of sound, using your voice or another instrument. But you don't need to understand something to appreciate it's beauty, most beauty comes from not being able to understand or comprehend something. Like the ancient, wise nature of the mountains or the awe-inspiring vast unity of a great forest.
Malukah is horribly overrated anyway. She rams the bloody dragon language into every song, horribly ruining them in the process, just as if she seems so irritatingly proud and boastful of the fact that she can sing a few words of it (I'm learning to speak the language as a hobby, by the way). Plus, these songs aren't really suited for a trilly high-notey woman's voice. Not being sexist, but songs about war and dragons, such as viking works, ballads and other folklorey songs (whatever they may be called, I don't study music, I only play the piano as a massive scrub of an amateur) aren't meant to be sung by frilly girls with acoustic guitars and high voices.
0:27 can hear some1 drinking in the background LOL XD
Favorite bard song sung by my favorite bard.
Those saying the male rendition of this is the GOAT have not heard the female Dunmer rendition in Windhelm.
That's the very point, after they realized the similarities of Alduin's first and second defeat, they remembered the song (because it was forgotten) and they start to sing it again. But yes, though it's about the first defeat of him, it roughly refers to the second one, too.
@badkiller2 Funnily enough I had beat the game when I asked the question, but I don't usually pay the bards to sing a song, and hadn't hear them play it before then
This song is worth finishing the game for :)
Wow! He really does sound like Ralof! Sort of vilkas but you guys know what I mean
Now I feel so bad for turning the markarth bard to the thalmor 😞
@badkiller2 The song is about those who had originally banished Alduin. If it were about the player, there would be singulars and it would most likely refer to the Dragonborn.
This song is still one of the greatest song ever.
Michael Gough's voice is as smooth as freshest milk and finest honey :)
my favorite bard in skyrim :) !
Yeah, I'd already had that confirmed and openly admitted my mistake in another post. It was remarkable to me that they sound almost identical.
i dont know why but when i beat alduin i went to solitude and listend to this song right after the battle and i teared up a little
Probably. That means that it's likely to be about those first three heroes that banished him with the Elder Scroll.
Is it just me or does everyone get chills from this?
He speaks the truth, bro. :)
@MrBolu14 Perhaps. but, he was already in Sovengard, so his soul might be trapped there forever. However, this doesn't changes the fact, everyone in Skyrim heard about Alduin's defeat, and they assumed it was gone for good, thus this song.
I love this song. I just wish there was a bard with a strong bass voice. How cool would that be? A bard voiced by Christopher Lee. My life would be complete.
That woman bars in solitude sings it nicely too
I wonder if all the voices that sing this song could be put together and form a harmony. That would be awesome.
I have to admit, the constant switching between past and present tense sort of confuses the whole issue about if this is about the recent defeat of the dragons or about the past one. For example, "the dragons are gone" says that it's present, IE the dragons are now gone thanks to you, but in turn the "tongueS" and "gave the gift of the voice" suggest that it was in the past. Maybe it's both, and it's the tale of both of Alduin's defeats, or maybe it's about the past. Who cares, it's epic!
@badkiller2 I expected to hear it because of what you said at the very begining of your comment, they play it for free occasionally anyway. I still frequently visited taverns to do other quests after the MQ but still never heard it untill I found this video.
It's as Arngeir said, perhaps Alduin will return to end the world, as his destiny. But the Dovahkiin's Destiny is fulfilled at any case.
...different Michael Gough. This one's still alive.
He's the guy who did Jarl Balgruff's voice.
They say Ulfric Stormcloak mudered the high king WITH HIS VOICE shouted him apart
in the face of such a fine song, nothing wrong in spilling some manly tears.
Every time when I hear this song, I think of the idea of a new dlc, The child of Alduin. But instead Of it being an immortal dragon, the child is an immortal Nord, loving since the Tounges casted Alduin forward. Hearing news of his fathers demise, the child now seeks out revenge, from both the dragonborn, and all of skyrim
I want to learn this on ukulele !
Do you know how I first came here? I hired a bard for my home lakeview manor and I asked him to sing the tale of the tongues and when I heard the name Alduin in it....I was like.....damn....I gotta hear THIS on RUclips..... XD
@ashtray0belief Know that you are not alone, my friend. I also 'sweat' that there is so much passion I can exert into something about this series, also included are these new epic songs
The first time I heard this Odaviin was Flying around and roaring and The adventuring bard was singing this to me and I was in a forest with orange and Telly trees and I neary cried.
Said Assassin: *nods and leaves* It will be done.
i wish i could make alduin my thrall...
just because he looked awesome :P
Best bard song I think :-)
lool oh Ulfric, you don't get it, its cool, you don't have too, being a rebellion leader an all, not too mention the most epic voice in game history, we can let a miss of humor pass.
I actually like this version more, than Malukah's version. But both of them did an amazing job with this song.
I request this song every chance I can...
Ogmund in Markarth. Spends most of his time in the Silver-Blood Inn.
DODAMNIT A TRUE NORD WELCOMES ALL KIN IN HIS LAND !
This bard is in Markath in Silver Blood tavern.
talsgar you genius
It is sad how the singer passed away before the game release...
That’s a different guy by the same name. This actor is still kicking.
The game should havê ended with this song, Black Flag style
I like this ALOT! :D
The only negative thing I have to say is that this song needs to be longer.
Random brotherhood assassin: Yes? What do you wish?
This is quite a moving song actually.
Long time ago, the dragons were rulers of the world, dominating men and other races, Alduin being their chief. One day, men were taught the Dragon Language, the Thu'um, by some Dragons who opposed Alduin, like Paarthurnax, his brother. And so the first Dragonic War began, Men against Dragons mostly. The Tongues, three leaders of the free men, developed a new Shout, Dragonrend, to bring down Alduin to the ground, so they could send him to another time span using an elder scroll. They succeeded..
Look in the credits of the game. The wiki can mess some things up time from time.
Could always Assassinate an emperor!
best bard song in the game
Little Timmy: Grandpa! Grandpa! I found this in the attic. Skyrim, What is that?
65 year old you: Sit down and shut you little fuck... Grandpa is gonna tell you an epic story...
Wow, your voice got me the chills.
That's not the uploader's voice. It's one of the in-game Bards, the one in the Silver-Blood Inn in Markarth.
isn't that the way to call the dark brotherhood?
Yes, but he misspelled it quite badly. It actually goes, 'Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized with blood and fear.'
@COD4PureBounty the dragons were supposed to end but parthranax leads them i think thats wat i remeber
RIP Michael Gough
This was my wedding song in the game, when I proposed to Aela The Huntress. May her rest in peace. :(
Parthunax. And no, neither way. Parthunax found the way of the voice, through meditation, he learned how to control his evil instincts. When Alduin died, that didn't mean the end of the dragons, that just meant the dragons were free to do as they please. Parthunax showed the way of the voice to them, but many refused it. So, it was to the dragonborn to kill the remaining dragons.
As Harbinger Vilkas Is Now The Bard Lol.
@KylewTyphewn Oh really? then why does the song unlock just after the Dragonborn kills Alduin? Besides, it says of "Alduin's doom", that he is "gone" if he is eternal, "eternity is done". The ancient nords knew they didn't killed Alduin, but simply sent him "somewhere", however the Dragonborn actually killed him.
@COD4PureBounty oh thank god somebody finally has common sense.
@lawlzandstuff Wow... Great coordination :)
they thought they had defeated them but they didnt and it has no mention of the dragonborn
Jarl Ballin
best skyrim song and the empire rocks and stormcloaks .
Come on guys let's do a chain about this
Alduins wings they did darkened the sky his roar fury's fire and his scale sharpened scythes
***** they burned & they bled as they issued there cries
***** We need Savoirs to free us from Alduin's rage.
***** And if alduin wins man is gone from this world
***** Lost in the shadow, of the black wings unfurled
Shawn Clemons But then came the tounges on that terrible day
true but i always thought this was about the Dragonborn, you charactor...
