    Materials:
Finished Size: 70 wide x 65 (You'll notice it finishes wider than the foundation chain because of the weight of the yarn it stretches out).
6 skeins of size 5 or 6 yarn in each color. I used Loops and Threads - yarn (sold at Michaels). Bernat Sofftee Chunky is very similar! any other thicker size 5 or 6 yarn with slight texture will give you a similar result. I linked the Bernat, so you can see what it looks like.
-Size Q or 16 mm crochet hook. Also known as a speed hook.
-smaller crochet hook for weaving in ends
    -scissors for triming
    Q hook, 16mm
    amzn.to/1LadvDV
Bernat Sofftee Yarn (very similar to loops and threads)
    bit.ly/1vFSAj5
    Instructions
    1. Take 2 strands at the same time and make a slip knot. Tighten around the hook.
    2. Chain 70 chains... or 50 inches with very little tension.
    3. hdc in 3rd chain from hook and repeat in each chain all the way down, use very little tension at this point, it will help you down the line.
    4. Ch 2 and turn.
    5. hdc in 2nd stitch over from edge of the blanket and continue in each stitch. Be sure to get the hdc in that last turning chain stitch.
    6. Ch 2 and turn
7.Repeat until you run out of that color yarn.
-When you run out of yarn, I did not run out at the same time. Tie the 2 ends (the yarn you are using and the new yarn) and continue. Don't forget to weave in all the little ends later. When you run out of the next skein of yarn, attache the next skein. This way the tails to be weaved in will be staggered and unnoticeable.
    8. When you finish a row of color 1 and don't have enough to complete another row, add your new color when you make your last hdc. WHen you have the 3 loops on your hook for that last stitch, add the 2 strands on your hook and pull through. Tighten everything up, chain 2 and turn continuing on like we have been.
    9. Continue adding skeins of yarn and change to your 3rd color and crochet until you can fully complete a row and cannot complete another.
    10. Weave in all the ends very well.
Who saw the kitty bloopers at the end? Write bad kitty in the comments if you did and made it to the end of reading this... that way I will know that you ROCK!

This is the first video I ever saw by this lovely woman several years ago and is what really got me going on crochet. My heart just breaks knowing that 💔 😢 this beautiful lady was taken way too soon. Prayers for her family, friends and fans😞Thank you for all of your awesome videos. RIP Melanie

Just hopped on to rewatch this video after many years. I’m so sad to hear of Melanie’s passing and will keep her family in my prayers as I make this blanket. I always felt like a patient friend was helping me as I created. I came to realize that crocheting was helping me deal with anxiety. I always travel with a ball of yarn and a hook.

Same...I did not realize how healing Mel was in her tutorials until now, I found out only about a month ago & haven't been able to put my hook down since. She got me through multiple leg surgeries including leg amputation 8-9 years ago. Mel's tutorials got me through a very dark time. xx

I have made this blanket and it took me about 3 days. I used Loops and Threads Charisma, color was Chocolate Cupcake. This blanket is beautiful and HUGE! It is so soft and cuddly! Thank You Melanie for the video. I am going to use this method for every blanket I make in the future!

Hi Melanie, the tip you gave at 2:40 (not getting enough stitches in each row) is incredibly useful. I have been making that mistake for so long and wasn't sure what I had been doing wrong. Now, my blankets turn out perfect. No more uneven rows. Thank you for that tip/reminder. :)

Melanie, I have a suggestion for the newer crocheters. It would definitely be helpful to put a stitch marker in the turning chain, to keep them from missing the last stitch at the end of each row. Its better than counting each stitch. I noticed you didn't mention, how many stitches they must have each row either. 😊💜
Did you do about 15-20 rows per color??? A lot of people are asking that question! Hopefully you'll answer.

Thanks for the tip about using lighter yarn instead of darker yarn that really helped me see what I was doing! I have watched this video about 5 times and it's the only one that has helped me! BTW: My cat does the exact same thing!

I used a 2 strands of 10mm wool so I had to use a 20 mm hook and it worked up so quickly, Thank you for a great tutorial!

Melanie Ham So this may be a silly question but, I did my 70 foundation stitches. Then I skipped three for the first row. Should I end up with 67? (for the rest of the blanket) I hope this makes sense

Sarah Berkowitz well, you chain 70 but then you start stitching in the 3rd chain from the hook, so 67 is right!

This is a great tutorial. I'm so happy that I managed to (accidentally) find one with the size hook I was planning to use, because I was beginning to wonder if I had found some strange hooks when I bought mine. This looks super easy and you were really clear, so I'd like to thank you for that. My question is about the difference would be if I only used one strand instead of two. I know the blanket wouldn't be as thick, but would it be about the same visually or look incomplete?
