      Agreed! I have the whole lineup and they're superb. I'm a big fan in particular of the finish mode on the impact driver/wrench and the circular saw. They're all top-notch quality wise and the batteries are the most affordable on the market. Can't go wrong!

    • @chaddles623
      @chaddles623 8 лет назад

      greenskiis yes the drill & impact are nice but the circular saw is the prize tool since it cuts the same as a 7-1/4 saw's depth, but the sawzall didn't bring any innovation, they should of made the shoe alot more adjustable or something else to the table

    I work in a plastic injection molding plant and they use a lot of DeWalt tools there we put a lot of metal inserts into the parts we make and I have burnt up several DeWalt brushed and brushless drills but I got this drill two years ago and use it daily and it's working like a champ til this day

    Just picked up the 24v Max drill/driver and 6-1/2" circular saw yesterday. Should have watched this first - damn near twisted my arm off using a 6" hole saw (cornhole boards). LOL This thing has some SERIOUS torque (way more than my other cordless or even plug in drills). Haven't used the saw, yet, but I'm sure I'll have a need, soon! LOL Great review! Thanks for sharing!

    I’ve just used my 24v Kobalt drill. It’s amazing SO FAR. It has a 5 year warranty and I’m pretty sure I’ll be making use of it! Kobalt seems to be more affordable. HOWEVER, they have increased their prices as of late. For the price I’ll give them a try. I’ll let you know if they suck!

    To me it seems that it doesn't matter whole lot in performance when it comes to most brands in terms of brushless drill/impact tools. the technology got so good and cheap that even companies like Kobolt and Rigid make good tools using this new technology. There are differences from brand to brand but it's not very obvious and it also comes down to what battery platform you are already invested to.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 7 лет назад +3

      This is always how it's been, why the brands that exist today have survived. For most users, going brushless is a trivial thing and a few inch lbs difference also trivial. It just has to stand up to the tasks you need it for, not be a replacement for an impact driver or SDS hammer drill. Regardless, an incremental improvement is still a valid reason to choose brushless unless the cost difference exceeds the benefit gained which is more often the case with homeowners vs contractors.

    • @Taylormade2350
      @Taylormade2350 5 лет назад +2

      Stinky Cheese brushless vs brushed is not “trivial” as you say. It makes a huge difference if power, run time and the life of the motor overall. Also there is a big difference in quality and power vs the different companies out there.

    • @86dieselman
      @86dieselman 5 лет назад

      @@Taylormade2350 Not true. Brushless is more a marketing ploy than anything. I have found the claim of longer battery life to be trivial and without merit. Also, the "more power" claim seems to be trivial. I have both brushed cordless tools and brushless and haven't noticed a big difference. I will say that a quality brushless tool should last longer than a comparable brushed tool simply because of the elimination of one wear item. But, that is an over simplification.

    • @Taylormade2350
      @Taylormade2350 5 лет назад +1

      86dieselman well good thing YOU found all this out. The world can sleep good at night now. Lmao. There is nothing marketing about it. The motors are smaller, lighter and don’t have touching parts causing friction. It takes less energy for the motors to work meaning less energy consumption from the batteries and the motors are easily more powerful because they operate easier. This is a proven fact, sorry about all of your “extensive research” you did all those hours to come up with tour super scientific conclusions.

    • @Taylormade2350
      @Taylormade2350 5 лет назад

      86dieselman and stop using the word “trivial”. You think it makes you sound smart but it doesn’t really. Lmao. By golly guys, this guy in his garage found multi billion dollar companies new technologies trivial. We better go back to the drawing board. Never mind the literal fact that today’s power tools are more powerful and last longer than ever. All well, this guy can’t tell the difference between his one brushed tool and his one brushless, we better throw out our millions and millions of dollars worth of R&D on our multi million dollar equipment.

    I was so impressed with the run time. I have an old Craftsman cordless drill and the run time is probably 1/5, if that, of what the Kobalt does. I already have the 1/2" Kobalt 24 volt impact wrench. I was on the fence as to whether or not get the 1/4" impact 1/2" drill package but after watching this video, I'm sold. Out goes my old Craftsman drill and in comes the Kobalt package.

    So I have a local Lowes near me.
    Additional 2AH battery is only $20. 4AH and 5AH I don't know.
    Currently Lowes is offering all store employees 50% off of all Kobalt 24v tools and batteries.
    The reason is that they want them to buy, test, use and be able to talk to and recommend to customers.
    I was told this by the usual sales tool guy there who always wants to show me the latest and greatest.
    They have kits as well with a sawzall, drill shown here, flashlight and impact.
    Another kit is just the drill and impact.
    Then they have a mamouth 24v impact gun, it looks pretty serious.

    Great review. Did you have any trouble recovering the battery (recharging it)? I've had some issues in the past with some brands not allowing a recharge if you drain it all the way down.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад

      Thanks! Zero issues with the battery......although, as with any battery, they do self-discharge.....so if you drain it down & then leave it sit for weeks, most likely you will burn the cells up. If you drain it down as I did, and then charge it, you will be fine. All of the name-brand modern batteries have a floor that they will discharge to (i.e. - 20% charge).....they cannot drain 100% under normal use.

    Id like it if you reviewed kobalts 24v 1/2" impact that's rated at 650 lb/ft (for $160 bare tool!) on that test rig off yours,, and see how it stacks up against dewalts 1/2" impact to already reviewed. I just bought the kobalt 3/8 24v impact only because it is brushless and dewalt does not make a brushless one yet. it took off wheel bolts that a 3/8 snap on 14v did not today.

    Most underrated tool ever. Everyone wants to try my Kobalt because they never seen one on the jobsite before and so far it has torn dewalt, milwaukee, ryobi and ridgid to shreds.
    Milwaukee brushless Fuel - Kobalt has more power and a lot more RPM.
    Ryobi and Dewalt - weakest drills on the market and my new brushless dewalt took 3 months to warranty repair, it just quit for no reason.
    Ridgid, I had high hopes for this drill but it's the WORST. So we were cutting 4" holes in metal and the Ridgid has a really low threshold for the safety so as soon as the bit grabbed the Ridgid would quit. Also Ridgid has a terrible trigger, it applies way too much torque when you want very little. Dewalt has the nicest trigger, then milwaukee, then kobalt.
    I have been very impressed with Kobalt, we have 3 sets in the shop now and a few of their other tools. Warranty is amazing also, 5 years no questions asked as long as you keep the receipt. One of our impacts went under water for a whole day and started having intermittent problems. They swapped it right out at lowes after I showed them my receipt.

    Hmm, it appears Kobalt is made by a company called Chervon (who also make some Craftsman tools apparently). There is't much info out there about them... any ideas?
    Oh, and have you tried their impact drivers with the "finish" feature? Seems like a nice idea, especially if you're building something like a deck.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад +2

      Chervon is a HUGE power tool manufacturer. They make various tools for almost all companies.....these are specific to them, and the quality is good. They also make the EGO line of outdoor power equipment at Home Depot. As far as Craftsman, I am not sure....I thought the C3 line was made by TTI (Milwaukee, Ryobi, Ridgid).
      I have the impact driver......I would say it is comparible to the Gen2 M18 FUEL.....the finish feature senses a load (aka bottoming a screw/bolt out) & cuts power almost instantly. I have tried it out on various materials & it works well......basically makes the impact driver "apprentice-proof"..... no more pops in drywall, deep screws in decks, stripped out HVAC screws, etc.
      I have reviews for other Kobalt 24v tools on the way....stay tuned!

    • @TheJohn8765
      @TheJohn8765 8 лет назад +1

      Real Tool Reviews You may well be right about TTI making Craftsman.... the article I read about Chervon was from 2006.

    Lowes has the impact and drill combo for only $149 right now. I was going to spend $315 for the Milwaukee impact and hammer drill with 2 5amp hour batteries, but for only $150 I may get this instead. Id much rather have a hammer drill instead of the normal drill but I can always get a Kobalt hammer drill later.
    What do you think, since I'm sure you've used them both? Is it wise to spend more on the Milwaukee or half the price for Kobalt but not get a hammer drill and only one 2 amp hour battery?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  7 лет назад +2

      Kobalt has the same warranty.....WAY cheaper batteries.....and a 1yr 100% money back guarantee.....I would try them first. If you hate it, return it for a full refund and look elsewhere.

  • @vmv890

    The review definitely shows this to be a capable tool, but does it compare favorably to the competition? I was considering Milwaukee 12V fuel, because the system has lots of decent tools, and it's light and capable, but also thought getting a full size drill like this could really be good enough and serve almost any job (for less money probably). Or, just go the cheap route, and get Ryobi (maybe upgrade to their brushless once it comes out). Any ideas how this Cobalt system stacks up to competition? On par? Better/Worse? Negligible difference? Have you tested the circular saw or impact driver? It's so hard to commit because once you do, you're really in that battery/tool eco system. I am a DIY, so probably either one will work fine, but still want to get a decent tool.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад

      These 24v tools vary in performance between RIDGID & M18 FUEL......I think that the circular saw is the most impressive in the whole lineup. The impact driver is very similar to the M18 FUEL Gen2. This drill is similar to the Gen1 M18 FUEL (keep in mind that it is NOT a hammer drill!). The recip is similar to the RIDGID Gen5x. The 1/2" Impact Wrench is similar to the older version from Kobalt, but with more power/runtime. The 3/8" impact wrench is similar to the M18 FUEL.
      Overall, the entire lineup is well worth the money. Also, they have a matching warranty to Milwaukee (5yr tools/3yr batteries & charger). BUT.....they also have the 1yr 100% money back guarantee --- if you don't like them within 1yr, return for a full refund.
      The batteries are cheaper than any other brand on the market. And, they are running a trade-in special right now --- 24% off by trading in any old cordless tools.
      Great deal for the money.

    • @greenskiis
      @greenskiis 8 лет назад

      Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the M12 Fuel. You're better off with the Kobalt 24v; more power, cheaper batteries, more affordable. Plus, the M12 Fuel drills are huge, their length is rougly the same as the Kobalt 24v drill with far less power.

    Is that kobalt on the same level as Hilti drill drivers/and impact drivers?

    • @chriscape3136
      @chriscape3136 8 лет назад +1

      Christian B no Hilti is the biggest name in power tools and no other compares,i own nothing but Milwaukee and my buddy owns nothing but dewalt and Hilti beats both, Hilti is pretty much the Ferrari of power tools

      No way. Hilti is top of the heap, but extremely EXPENSIVE.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад +2

      This has similar power levels at half the price. With the Kobalt deals they have on these things.....I wouldn't hesitate. They ALL have a 1-yr 100% money back guarantee ---- if you don't like it, they will refund your entire purchase price. Also, the Kobalt batteries are the cheapest on the market by far.....1.5ah = $10, 2.0ah = $20, 4.0ah = $50.

      victor feliciano this is a nice tool, but it depends on what you're doing if you're a professional you want that Milwaukee name standing behind you, if you are only doing hobbies or diy jobs this will be more than enough

    I feel line one critical thing that Kobalt will have to do to be successful is to offer a wide veriaty of tools. In my opinion that is one thing that seriously hampered their 18 and 20v tools.

    this 24v Impact Driver & Drill (2 tools) combo with a 2ah Battery are now $149, insane deal but I just noticed that they released a 1.5ah battery for $10 (what's up with that) when the 2ah battery was only $20 & 4ah is $50 those are already cheap, we need larger amp hour and more tools to the Kobalt 24 volt line, not smaller batteries

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад

      I think the 1.5ah $10 batteries are a limited release item that is to help people's holiday gift budgets......I would not expect to see them year round at that price.

    the problem with Kobalt you cant buy any replacement part to fix your tool if
    the warranty dont cover it , especialy 24v max serie ,if so your money go down the drain unlike makita or dewalt etc...

      Its just a colorant dye used to mix with natural looking Nylon 6 glass filled 30% They all use the same material. Then it really comes down to rib designs within the shell of the housing and nominal thickness too.

    Alright, so for the price it isnt a bad drill.
    HOWEVER, while sure, many of these reviews are simply not longevity tested.
    Im just one person so take my experience as that.
    BOTTOM LINE: I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER KOBALT DRILL.
    Mine lasted roughly 8 months before the clutch started to get stuck and made it unable to put it into "Drive" or anything above 18 on the dial.
    I noticed about a week prior that the drill started feeling different in moments torque wise.
    Im sure I have a reciept somewhere and should be able to get a replacement....I WILL THEN SELL THAT REPLACEMENT UNOPENED FOR A REDUCED PRICE and BUY A DRILL THAT IS MORE DEPENDABLE.
    In the end, there is a REASON KOBALT IS UNDERPRICED AND IT ISNT CAUSE LOWES ARE A BUNCH OF GOOD PEOPLE.
    For the pricee it is a decent drill, just dont be swayed by fanboys that it is something it isnt, like a secret that lets it compete with more expensive 200-300 dollar drills...It doesnt and cant.
    WHY? Cause corners need to be cut to reach its price point, business is business and I am not complaining on that strategy...Just shining light on what seems like some people try and make this drill out to be something it clearly isnt.
    If your a weekend warrior, sure, I would recommend this drill.
    But like myself, if you use this drill for work (I dont use it all day but it does get used repeteadly throughout the day 10-15 times periodically) basically for light to medium use 5 days a week....I WOULD AVOID IT.
    They simply arent made for regular use and certainly are not for daily hard use....Not for any serious length of time anyway imo.
    NOW, Im sure some will last years....But I dont have time to see if the next one does better....Kobalt had their chance with their drill and came short by having a 100% failure rate within a year.
    BOTTOM LINE: AVOID IF YOU USE YOUR DRILL BEYOND ANYTHING OVER MEDIUM USE. MY OPINION, YMMV.
