I recently purchased this Kobalt 1/2 inch mid torque kit from a local Lowe's for $149 with a 4ah battery and a 150w fast charger. I thought it was a great deal that I couldn't pass up. I am in love with how it performs, it has way more torque than my Kobalt 1/2 inch compact impact wrench. This mid torque impact wrench is enough for any fastener on my Mitsubishi Mirage I can think of. At Lowe's, I had a chance to look at, hold and pick up the XTR 1/2 inch high torque impact wrench. Exactly! While it is impressive, that gun was able to bust loose 1000 foot pounds. I don’t think it would last long working that hard every day. Those mid to works or right at home busting lugs off of passenger cars and SUVs. Additionally, the smaller form factor makes them good for under hood work. Tim can you re-test the Kobalt XTR High Torque 1/2 impact with your new set-up? In the video it only went too 700ft lbs. Im wondering if this new mid Torque is actually more powerful... Thanks again!
The torque test channel video of this tool showed it had a lot less torque than shown in this video. TTC showed the Dewalt DCF891 produced much more torque. I would like you to make a video comparing the nut busting abilites of both wrench because your videos showed the Kobalt busting higher torqued bolts. Thanks and keep making great videos for all of us to enjoy.
We definitely use different testing methods than TTC, but we both typically draw the same conclusions in the end. We use greased nuts and bolts torqued to specific ft-lbs, while they use an equation to convert pressure to ft-lbs. What neither of us can simulate exactly are rusty bolts, old lug nuts on a 20-year-old truck, etc. I think TTC does a great job, and their content has great value. At the same time, I'm sure there will be times when our conclusions won't be exact. We may do a comparison video very soon. Thanks for watching.

Awesome video man. Curious if you are able to go back to the big kobalt impact xtr to see what it max out on. Seeing how this little thing has gone over its spec i'm curious if the big one will do the same 🤔 or if it will do less.
I thought that Kobalt was gonna be dismissed for the FLEX line, and I also find it weird that they're not continuing their XTR line of tools Maybe theyll come out with a newer Compat Impact Wrench, right after I just got done swapping the anvil on my XTR lol Also, does the trigger on this or any of the other new tools feel good? I have the XTR Drill and Impact, and the triggers are not very responsive. If you quickly pull the trigger, there's a pretty good delay.
They've never said they're dropping Kobalt, the Lowes flagship tool line, for Flex. They also have more XTR tools being released, so not dropping that either.
@@romingnometx I just assumed that they were gonna drop Kobalt for Flex. Also, where are you getting the news from? I didn't know they're gonna do some more XTR stuff aswell, I'd like to see this all for myself. Not trying to argue with ya, I'm just genuinely curious
Now that you have that new high torque gun you should consider doing a battle of the high torques Milwaukee, dewalt, makita, the new snap on high torque. Would be cool to see how much they can actually break loose

I think I'm going to order one so I can have a decent Kobalt mid torque impact since I'm already bought into that ecosystem plus I get a military discount so its win win for me. I also want that new fast charger as its like 50w more powerful than the older one. Edit: order placed.
@@buddahkz9980 I've used it a couple of times and it does what they claim it will so I'm satisfied with it. For the price you can't go wrong with getting one.
If they took Mid-touqe to 1000ft pounds then I'm curious if the first gen high torque will be updated and then the xtr update should be able to take off nearly 1800ft pounds which at this point things are getting crazy and making the Milwaukee 1" impact like a bad deal considering this is almost a 1/3 the price as that. So I'm excited.
The testing approach is refreshingly simple, and anyone finding fault with it might be setting excessively high expectations. With a staggering 1000 pounds of torque, it's difficult to imagine requiring any more. Even 650 torque is abundantly sufficient for the majority of home mechanics engaged in automotive work.
Love your channel ! Hopefully you can help with my scenario. Looking to purchase my first impact wrench, I do my own basic vehicle maintenance and tired of removing each nut with breaker bar when rotating tires or changing breaks. Can’t decide between this Kobalt or the Ryobi p262, 1/2 inch impacts! Would appreciate your input as to which one you would recommend over the other.
They didn’t have a true mid torque. They had a “compact” impact wrench that TTC classified it as a mid torque because it’s over 6 in. It…. It didn’t test well as a mid torque.
Ah I see why all the high torque testings are on back order. He needs to replace the thread pitch on those larger thread fasteners. And maybe weld the 3/4 adapter and 2 1/4 in socket. Not going to lie that thread rig looks fun.
i own one of those kobalt impact tools its suppose to have 650 ft pound torque it did not brake loose a bolt torqued at 250 pound torque i was using a 4 amp battery
Since LOWE'S Sells both KOBALT And FLEX this could have been to the new FLEX MIDTQ wrench not KOBALT then they could RAISE the Price too $399 I was going to buy the FLEX HIGH TQ but now I'm thinking this One
That's a very broad speculation. I've seen 90 ft-lb lugnuts that a High Torque impact wrench won't take off. It's amazing what corrosion and friction will do to a fastener. Thanks for watching.
i wonder why the dyno tests that you see on youtube show closer to what the tool manufacturers advertise but more real world tests show them being capable of doing way more?
Totally depends on the type of testing that is being done. If the test is using a hydraulic press, there it's using a tightening method to press a hydraulic ram, then there's a calculation to derive the "torque" amount. We try to use real nuts and bolts to simulate actual us; however, we do have to lubricate the fasteners each use to ensure they don't ruin the threads each time. Also, we're calculating bolt-removal torque (loosening torque, nut-busting torque, etc.). Regardless of the testing method, you have to take into account the pitch of the threads, ramp of the threads, size of the fastener, etc. There's not an easy end-all, be-all number to arrive at. We could write for hours about the testing procedures and methods. Bottom line, we try to use testing methods where we can have quantitative and qualitative, repeatable results. Thanks for watching.

Also, does the trigger on this or any of the other new tools feel good?
Theyre going to be releasing an xtr Brad nailer
Their right angle impact is the best there is and it can get in even tighter spaces.
Now that you have that new high torque gun you should consider doing a battle of the high torques Milwaukee, dewalt, makita, the new snap on high torque. Would be cool to see how much they can actually break loose
Milwaukee is still king, but the Hercules is a very close second. The rest pffffft ... Why even waste time talking about them?
@@winkletown8828 Milwaukee is still pretty good, but they've been falling behind a bit compared to the other brands lately as far as max torque.
@@jake-mv5oi Only 3 brands beat them, and 2 of them are significantly more expensive. It also took 5+ years minimum for these brands to even make a real attempt.
@@svn5994 No argument on the time its taken to get there, but they're not king anymore. Ridgid and Dewalt both beat milwaukee's high torque and a few others beat their mid/compacts.
@@jake-mv5oi well, they're still the top dog. The Hercules is nipping at their heels though. Which is good for us as consumers. Competition between the companies means more stuff for us 👍👍
It is in my store and it was a kit, although it was 209 then raised to 219. There was also a tower light( battery only) for 169. There was only 2 and they sold, but I swear that it said 7200 lumens. I'm not positive that I'm remembering correctly.
I prefer this kind of testing. Good work.
I think I'm going to order one so I can have a decent Kobalt mid torque impact since I'm already bought into that ecosystem plus I get a military discount so its win win for me. I also want that new fast charger as its like 50w more powerful than the older one. Edit: order placed.
How had your experience been with it
@@buddahkz9980 I've used it a couple of times and it does what they claim it will so I'm satisfied with it. For the price you can't go wrong with getting one.
Just got mine for $149. 🎉🎉🎉
Kobalt should include an Ultimate Output 4.0 battery in the kit.
WOW! Great tests and video as always!
This guy really knows how to test tools. Another great video thanks!!
Hell yea. So gald I invested in the xtr kit! Winning feels good.
Lowes has the "buy more save more" on this tool combo kit. Brings it down to $180. Offer is good till April 2023.
Just picked up the kit on sale at Lowes for $150!
How does the older Kobalt 24-volt max (672825) 650 ftlbs torque?
I wonder if the regular high torque has more or less torque
The testing approach is refreshingly simple, and anyone finding fault with it might be setting excessively high expectations. With a staggering 1000 pounds of torque, it's difficult to imagine requiring any more. Even 650 torque is abundantly sufficient for the majority of home mechanics engaged in automotive work.
whose hand did they use for the hand tight feature?
Hercules!
It looked like it's stronger for the Cobalt high torque the big behemoth you should do a comparison.
Between this and the Red Army mid torque, which comes out on top based on performance and price point?
Love your channel ! Hopefully you can help with my scenario. Looking to purchase my first impact wrench, I do my own basic vehicle maintenance and tired of removing each nut with breaker bar when rotating tires or changing breaks. Can’t decide between this Kobalt or the Ryobi p262, 1/2 inch impacts! Would appreciate your input as to which one you would recommend over the other.
Kobaltt
I'd like to see a comparison between the next gen and the one before to see how they are
They didn’t have a true mid torque.
They had a “compact” impact wrench that TTC classified it as a mid torque because it’s over 6 in.
It…. It didn’t test well as a mid torque.
@@juanc5149 Kobalt has 3 different 1/2 inch impact wrench's. I have the small one. There's a mid and the XTR which is the top one
Just picked the kit up at Lowes for $149
I rescind what I said earlier, this thing does better than my XTR hight torque
I wish you would have demonstrated how much actual torque this tool can apply.
So this ones better than the xtr??
More power than Dewalt dcf891 if you look at the strength of this kobalt midtorq.maybe most powerful impact wrench midtorq level in the world now
LET'S GO TJ!🏁
She's a beast...
The xrt can do this as well with the right attachments.
Can you please re test the big bro XTR
I'm in between this and the XTR
Very soon. ;)
@@Shoptoolreviews Thank you
It did it with a regular 4.0 battery FYI. Also consider, you are getting a fast charger
Should look at the xtr line
Like to see a video on the craftsman new 3 speed RP impact wrench....
thank you for using the 8ah battery i asked for... super...wow!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much
CAN'T wait till the new FLEX MID TQ IMPACT WRENCH comes out
Very good deal with the 4ah bat and charger. A bit heavier than some mid trq's but more powerful. Pick your poison, its all good.
Ah I see why all the high torque testings are on back order. He needs to replace the thread pitch on those larger thread fasteners.
And maybe weld the 3/4 adapter and 2 1/4 in socket.
Not going to lie that thread rig looks fun.
Its a beast, but i highly doubt test accuracy, as 700 took more time than 1000, it does not make sense. Waiting for ttc to confirm
WOW IT'S good has my DEWALT DCF 891And comes with a battery and charger
This is really impressive.
What it can do with half dead battery more intuitive than what it can do with brand new one
Thanks for watching.
Lol. Yeah, it can do half of what a fully charged battery can do
Milwaukee needs to release something soon or I'm going to have to buy a 4th battery platform lol.
That adapter is at fault at the 1100. Look at ttc for science on adapters. You loose like 30-40% torque transfer.
That thing is a beast. I feel like it'll give my ryobi high torque a run for it's money. I need to see it on torque test channels rig also
i own one of those kobalt impact tools its suppose to have 650 ft pound torque it did not brake loose a bolt torqued at 250 pound torque i was using a 4 amp battery
Excelent amigos i love this channel
Looks like I’ll be taking back my Milwaukee mid torque!
Since LOWE'S Sells both KOBALT And FLEX this could have been to the new FLEX MIDTQ wrench not KOBALT then they could RAISE the Price too $399 I was going to buy the FLEX HIGH TQ but now I'm thinking this One
We've requested to FLEX a few times that they need a mid-torque. I think we might be seeing it. ;) Thanks for watching.
In the other video can't remove the 350ft on farmal tractor
That's a very broad speculation. I've seen 90 ft-lb lugnuts that a High Torque impact wrench won't take off. It's amazing what corrosion and friction will do to a fastener. Thanks for watching.
Jeezus! I'm getting one. 👍
Awesome, video
That thing is impressive
Brother, after the 1st of the year, you really need to do another "mid-torque" video comparison so you can redo it again by the end of next year.
i wonder why the dyno tests that you see on youtube show closer to what the tool manufacturers advertise but more real world tests show them being capable of doing way more?
Thanks for watching.
this one can do 1000 ft/lb why it only advertise at 650 ft/lb. it's time to diseemble to see inside.
Very impressive
