The Carbon Fiber one is really compact but also extends above 6ft. That was the main reason I purchased the Carbon Fiber model. Less weight is also a plus. If you don't need height-- then the 5 section aluminum is a good choice! Nice Video!
There is definitely a lot of different monopods to choose from so everyone can find one for their needs. Glad you like the carbon fiber one and thanks for watching!
Thanks for a great video! So many great new products on the market today. FYI- my Sirui P204SR breaks down to a minimum height of 20-1/4 inch if I remove the bottom feet! Fits into my carry-on baggage that fits the tighter European standards. Looking forward to more videos!
great review Just what I needed .I'm sending My Sirui back which I just got and getting this for its compactness and a video pro fluid head. thanks Compact is always best for travel and ease of use.
I've actually been using this set up exclusively with the Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W head. I have a video on the head coming out soon so subscribe to be notified of that!
thanks for the reply, and great review. I like the way you were thinking and gave an honest opinion which was about travel, like I said I decided to return the Sirui as its too big for me and order this manfrotto in carbon fibre and also I found the MHXPRO which I have ordered as the quick release is what i have for a lot of my gear. I looked at the Benro 7 but decied to go to with the MHXPRo head to see if its what I need as I dont need anything too complicated. keeping it simple is always best. hope you agree. great video btw I have subscribed.
I actually have the Benro S7 and will make a video on it too! Unfortunately I would have to disagree with your decision to go with the carbon fiber monopod because it's $100 more while only weighing something like .2 of a pound less. Nothing significant enough to cost $100!!!! The carbon fiber version is also bigger with a closed length off 23.8" vs 20.7" on the aluminum. You essentially bought a tripod the same size as the Sirui which you did not like and returned! I hope that this comment helped!
Both are fairly new! The Sirui offers a lot of little features but some of them are not very useful in my opinion. Both work great but are for different people. Definitely check out my Sirui EP-204S video if you have not to see my thoughts between the two monopods!
OH wow u from Guam? I saw your left video and u mention about getting the manfrotto xpro.. Nice P4P :) Im stil debating wait for the P5P comes out :) If get the p4P now and in 2 weeks p5 will comes out.. Is my luck..
And lol we can never keep up bro, a new drone comes out every few months. We just gotta take the L's. I took a huge L with my Inspire Pro. I want the Inspire 2 soooo bad.
thanks for the review. would you recommend the manfrotto monopod for photography too ? Personally manfrotto would be my first choice simply because you can rely upon their after-sale support and the availability of spare parts. Thanks again!
I would definitely recommend the monopod for general photography. It's a great tool to just walk around with as a tripod is much more cumbersome. I just would not recommend it for any serious tripod stuff like long exposure because the monopod just simply is not as stable. That being said, the monopod can do it, just not in very unstable, uneven or windy conditions.
- Can you take the bottom feet off to make it more compact and use it as a hi hat tripod. - And can you lock and unlock the feet just by using your foot? - If I lock the bottom and use a fluid head that can pan, will the shaft also move when I pan and making it unstable? like you said it cannot 100% locked
- Can you take the bottom feet off to make it more compact and use it as a hi hat tripod? You can take the monopod off and use the base as a hi hat but it is not pretty. The thread is there for you to do it, but I don't think Manfrotto intended for this. On the Sirui, you can use the top plate from the shaft and put it on the base to turn it into a hi hat. This is a known feature. On the Manfrotto, it seems like they didn't intend for you to do as there is no base for the camera to sit on, there is just the thread for you to do whatever with. - And can you lock and unlock the feet just by using your foot? The base has a locking mechanism that you will require you to use your hands to disengage. You may be able to get the feet into the tripod mode by just pushing it down with your feet, but if you want it to go back up to just monopod mode, you're going to have to use your hands. - If I lock the bottom and use a fluid head that can pan, will the shaft also move when I pan and making it unstable? The shaft itself does not lock. It always has the ability to pan as shown in the video. If you want to pan with your fluid head, you have to make sure to hold the shaft so that it will not spin.
Would you recommend buying just the fluid base and then attaching a monopod from another brand to it? That's because I have a 3 Legged Thing Leo where one of the legs can be unscrewed to form a carbon-fibre monopod I'd like to put it to good use but I'm just wondering if the screw thread sizes match. Has it got a 3/8"-16 thread? I'm just curious whether it would still readily free-stand under such a combination. Slightly bummed about the incomplete lock though. Makes mounting a fluid gimbal head on top rather redundant when you want to pan and the whole friggin' leg just want to pan along as well, resulting in jittery movements.
+mactopia1 in theory a different monopod with the base will work since the threading is the same but I can’t guarantee this for you with your specific monopod. The lack of lock in panning is a set back and is why I generally use the Sirui EP-204S.
+André Magalhães That’s pretty much the difference. If you get the older monopod without the base, than you have just a monopod. If you get the older version with the base, the then base doesn’t lock and you can’t let it stand by itself.
Really great video! i wanna ask you an important question please. i will buy one but which one has the smoothest movement "the fluid one" of them. if the answer is the sirui line up can you suggest me the smoothest video head for it? all what i care about is this point. PLEASE I'M WAITING YOUR ANSWER!
Hey Luca! I assume that by which one has the smoothest movement, you mean how smooth the monopod itself pans? In my opinion, both are about the same. The Manfrotto has a bit more resistance but there is no way of controlling it. The Sirui has a twist lock for the pan and can be tightened a bit to increase tension but I would not recommend this as it causes unwanted jitters in the pan. Really the answer is to use a fluid head as you want to do anyways. Because the Manfrotto has no way of locking down the pan, it can be a bit more difficult to pan because you have to worry about holding the pan (on the monopod) so that it doesn't spin when you're panning on the fluid head. If you plan on using fluid/video head with one or the other, I would recommend the Sirui. I personally use the Benro S7 as I think it's the best bang for the buck compared to the Manfrotto fluid heads like the Manfrotto 502HD and has better features. Here is a link to the head. If you're going to buy it, I would appreciate you using the link I provide as it helps support this channel! amzn.to/2jTj8kP
Thank you very much for replying fast! great answers! i was asking about "the Fluid base" if you used them in both and which one is the smoothest. i will use them for filmmaking :) ur such a great speaker by the way. i will take a look at the link and thank you for helping ur subscribers :)
Oh ok! As far as the base is concerned, I think that most people will not notice a difference at all as really, I didn't notice any difference. I would say though that to release the Sirui base and fully use the system, there are two different knobs to loosen up. The Manfrotto only has one push/pull button that's much faster. This is hard to say which is better as the Sirui offers more adjustments but the Manfrotto is so much faster. Which is better is going to have to be determined by the user. Thanks again Luca! Thanks for the kind words. I just try to give my watchers information that I would like to have prior to buying something and really do try to help everyone. Thanks again.
The MHXPRO-2W is an all around good video head and you'll enjoy it. I'd appreciate it if you used links provided in the description of my videos to make your purchase as it does help the channel out!
The carbon fiber version costs $100 more while only weighing something like .2 of a pound less. Nothing significant enough to justify the $100 increase!!!! The carbon fiber version is also bigger with a closed length off 23.8" vs 20.7" on the aluminum. The two versions are really two completely different monopods.
I actually have the 502 and have used it with this monopod! Are you looking to buy the 502 or already have it? If you already have it then yes the combo works and works well together. If you're going to be buying a new head, I would recommend buying the Benro S7 or the Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W. The XPRO head is much lighter and suits the monopod very well. If you want a more advance fluid head, I think the S7 is a better head. I will have videos coming out soon to compare each head.
No I don't have a fluid video head yet. I'm looking for one, the MHXPRO-2W looks ok, it has a good price, but I guess its features are as good as say the 502, I would like to not mix brands either, lol, OCD in my says to keep a Manfrotto head with the monopod.
Trust me I have the same problem! I have the S7 on the Sirui EP-204S because they're both blue and the MHXPRO-2W on the MVMXPROA5US because they're both red and match. Lol I ended up spending too much just to match.
I know this video came out like half a year ago but I'm looking for someones opinion as to which monopod and fluid head to go for based on my situation. So i'll be shooting weddings, possibly real estate, and side gigs. I'd like to have something I can travel with on vacation (eventually), and will perform well for commercial work. I'm only 5'6 so I guess more compact or shorter length may be more ideal? Also, you stated the XPRO is smaller but can't you technically take them both apart from the base feet to be "travel size?" Anyways, watched both your monopod reviews of this and the siriu and I know you stated the Manfrotto XPRO stands but does it hold up the camera like the Siriu? Based on your 2 reviews I was thinking Siriu for the stand feature paired with a manfrotto fluid head(xpro, 500, or 502 can't decide). Budget isn't too tight but obviously i'd like to save money if I could. I'd love to hear your thoughts on which monopod and which fluid head for my situation. Sick Jordan 11s btw. I've only had a bootleg pair from the Philippines LOL.
Considering what you wanted, something small that you can travel with and still get good results, I would get the Manfrotto MVMXPROA5USmonopod and this head Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W ruclips.net/video/_ChsD0hQQTA/видео.html amzn.to/2w5FjLm In terms of taking either the Manfrotto or the Sirui apart to make them smaller, sure you can do that, but the Manfrotto will always be smaller. You're also really only saving like 2 inches since the legs fold up, around the shaft. If it were me and size was even remotely a concern, I'd go with the Manfrotto MVMXPROA5US and Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W without a doubt.
Awesome, liking your videos on monopods! New sub btw :) Have you heard of the Libec HFMP monopod? Looks like a good contender to the manfrotto and sirui.
The Upper Left USA Seems to be a pretty new product, but has a cool step-lock/release pedal. 'MrCheesyCam' on youtube just put out a video on it yesterday, maybe worth checking out.
Have you tried putting the Manfrotto monopod on the Sirui EP-204 base? are those compatible? I was thinking of getting the manfrotto monopod only and find a better base for it.
In theory it should work since they use the same threading. If you were to get the Manfrotto monopod only, how would you get a better base? I haven’t looked much but from what I remember, Manfrotto is really the only manufacturer that sells the base independently so you would have to buy their product anyways. If that’s the case, it may just be cheaper to buy the video monopod as a package.
They're about the same. The legs are only a few inches long on either so don't expect the most stable platform in the world. They get the job done but I wouldn't use either in very heavy winds.
I do, and I like your aproach by thinking about travelling and how it would suit so many applications. Also, I love those who can be on top of the best and most recent products
Thanks for the feedback! I try my best to just give my thoughts on each product and how I think it could help in various situations. This channel definitely looks at each product in a different way rather than just specifications on everything!

I find that just perfect! ;D It's a good balance because when you talked about the height, it's a spec that might limit you depending on what you're trying to do! Thanks for your work

i love the gear behind you too. Can you do an Osmo review and how it would sit on this mono pod? Just an idea. thanks
Thanks for the suggestion but I actually got rid of my Osmo! I may pick it up again once they release a version 2.
I never saw this Manfrotto model Monopod when I was doing my comparison. I also never knew the Sirui had Flip locks.
Both are fairly new! The Sirui offers a lot of little features but some of them are not very useful in my opinion. Both work great but are for different people. Definitely check out my Sirui EP-204S video if you have not to see my thoughts between the two monopods!
Looks like height/compactness vs locking, tricky decision. Nice review
+Video Upskill It’s a hard to choose between the two. I’ve definitely had days where I’ve hated one or the other. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
It is beeeeest 100% what i need!
Lol it's very convenient to say the least

Very nice video. i'm from Brazil and I get the MVM500a. Have many diferences between them? Thanks so much.
The video head?
What's the difference between the fluid head and the monopod?
Oh, sorry, between old monopod version, without lock base.

Have you tried to use the MHXPRO-2W 2-Way Video Head on top of this Monopod?
The head also works fine on this monopod. I haven't had any problems with it either.
Cool, that sounds good!
The MHXPRO-2W is an all around good video head and you'll enjoy it. I'd appreciate it if you used links provided in the description of my videos to make your purchase as it does help the channel out!
1:16 Can I Know Which Series Of Jordon , Do You Have In Background ....I
Which ones? There are two pairs of Jordans in the scene, Bred 11s and Wolf Grey 5s.
I wonder if the carbon fiber version of this monopod is worth the extra money?
The carbon fiber version costs $100 more while only weighing something like .2 of a pound less. Nothing significant enough to justify the $100 increase!!!!
