    🫠Thank you very much for your video. I walked this route in May - June 2023 and thanks to your video I was able to remember this time again with great joy. I walked the Primitivo a few years ago, so I continued along the coast to Santiago. The Norte was my 10th and probably my last Camino. Everything has its time and I like to think back to that time. 🇪🇸🥾☕️

    Hi, Rolf.
    I noticed you walked more than 30km a day many times while doing drone videos a lot.
    I have an aging partner who cannot walk more than 20-23 km a day on French way last Oct-Nov in 2023. We both hated the last hour to Zubiri, but enjoyed first 2/3 of the route as we paced ourselves to a shorter distance each day. We had rain almost every day. But it was memorable.
    Do you think Northern route is more challenging than French one? And, do you reckon there are many accomodations still open in September-October season? Was it hot in late Aug? I am no good in heat over 27C.
    And, thank you for the great vignettes you share with us. I cant imagine how hard it was to film them and lots of tight editing job. Really appreciate your input.
    From New England

      Hi Ethan, The Norte is not very much more difficult than the Frances. It is quite a bit cooler than the Frances as you are closer to the coast. I walk more hours and further as I don't like to linger around the Albergues all too long, but most people like arriving early. There should be plenty of rooms available. Hope this helps.

    Great videos you got here. Planning on walking the norte and then down south to Sevilla on the via de la Plata. Are trail runners enough for both walks during early autumn? What's the capacity of your backpack?

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  Месяц назад

      The footware really depends the season. I was glad I had my boots on the muddy sections on the VLP. But trail runners are good enough if you don't mind getting wet feet. The VLP is 80 trails... the Norte on the other hand is 80 to 90 % asphalt so you definitely don't need boots for it. I wish you a Buen Camino!

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  Месяц назад +1

      I only booked the one in San Sebastian in advance as I arrived by train from Madrid very late. Also I would recommend booking the one in Gernika because there are few accommodation options. Else it us best just to show up... it's more of what the Camino is about. The Granja La Troupe in Bilbao and the Albergue in Novellana are exceptional.

    Hi Rolf, thanks a lot for the (as always) nice and well-made video. I appreciate all the work you put into this! When was this video taken? The title says 2024, but it was shot in late August / September, and in 2022 the "beer bootle bar" at 1:23:38 had been shut down, with all bottles removed. Thanks again and Kind Regards, Rüdiger

      Thank you. It was filmed a while back but I never got around to editing it as there were some problems with some of the footage. I finally decided to edit it... hence the 2024. I saw that the bottle bar was closed in September when I walked the Frances... :( But I don't think the boots used to be there just down the street before.. ;)

    There is a lot of great camera work here. Did you have to do a lot of extra walking to go back and get your camera after you did a walk through? I love your "drone" footage too. Funny how you don't really see the tech as you walk. Well done sir. Perhaps you could do a little "behind the scenes" video about how you video your camino? Thx.

    I'm walking the norte from Bilbao this September (7th camino). Did you stay at the albergue de peregrinos in Santander? Some of the reviews in gronze are not very good. I guess I'll just deal with it, as alternatives are likely to be booked well in advance, and I don't know exactly when I will be arriving in Santander......After Bilbao, there are usually municipal albergues, but not always, as I'm realizing. Hopefully, I will not get stuck in towns with only 40+ Euro options. I will be walking past Santander after mid September, so hopefully most of the tourists will be gone by then. Great video, by the way. It's giving a good idea of what to expect.

      my Camino del Norte starts in August 1 from Irun.
      and I am already so stressed out to find reasonably priced Albergues (up to 30 Euros )
      town after town , there are plenty of expensive pensions and hotels but not Albergues(many of them are already full).
      summer is the busiest season so many Peregrinos are competing to find place to rest.
      I sent many E mails to PA, but a few of them are answered.
      I am not young and planed 42 days 15-20kms a day.
      walking is already hard enough, I do not want have hard time to find for sleep.
      so I am thinking, a week late( after Bilbao ), turn into the Camino de Frances which I did twice.
      i spent a week to make reservations for Albergue, but no progress.
      where should I look at for find Albergues on Norte ? give me some information if you have.

    Thank you so much for your video and the PDF. I appreciate your service very much, as I intend to walk the Camino del Norte in September/October this year.
    May I ask you - as you have seen many albergues - is it possible to put the tent uotside of the albergue, of course I would pay for it.

    and buen camino! ♥

      Hi Monika, You are welcome. Most of the albergue I stayed at on the Norte are in the towns and don't have a place you could pitch a tent. However there were a few that allowed tents. In Orio and Izarbide just after Deba they definitely let you.

      Wear what you are used to walking in. Take what you are used to walking with. There are too many “What NOT to bring on the Camino!” and “Camino: Don’t make THESE mistakes!” videos out there. Honestly … if people are comfortable walking in boots, let them walk in boots. No need to kit shame people.
