The paint job for the Sledge looks pretty fantastic. I wish you would've featured it a bit more. Ken Block was nothing short of amazing. A pioneer and a family man. Truly an inspiration for SO many people!
My dad handed me down his original Clodbuster when I was a kid. I love that thing. It still runs to this day. It has the aluminum chassis and all the upgrades that don't exist anymore from an old-school company. So much fun to build a monster truck course in the garage and start smashing Lexan bodies. RIP Ken Block. I feel so sad for his daughter Lia who spent almost every day with him and also racing. Hope she continues his legacy with Hoonigan. I know those guys love having her on "This Vs That. She must be so devastated. So Heartbreaking.
love ths series! i gotta say you have me captivated on doing a Tamiya build. i have never done one. i agree, that grey clodbuster is amazing looking. thank you for all that you do and chronicling it on youTube
I guess I was one of the first owners of a Clod Buster here in Germany when it was released in 1987. It was a real blast to drive. I put two Technigold motors, ball bearings and CVA shocks in it and thought this was the real deal of tuning. Several years later I stumbled across the rc monster truck forum in the US what got me grounded. 🤦♂ Nevertheless the Clod Buster was one of my best experiences in RC modelling back in those days. It could drive over any obstacle, it could drive on snow, it made so much fun. It may be that the Clod cannot compete to modern RC cars today. But as said in the video, it makes you being 12 again (Admittedly I was 22 when I bought mine, but we men develop until we're 10, from there on we only grow in size! 😆)
I bought a Clodbuster in the 90s when I was a teenager, $300 was very expensive at the time but it was my must have tamiya kit. I wanted the Clodzilla iv chassis but never got around to buying it, great memories with that kit.
Big scale monster truck fan here, watching the scene grow in popularity recently. At some point all the scale crawler guys will realize how fun these things are (like Matt was saying) and join the party. They're big and quirky and you can make them as scale as you want, and you get to make up a theme and give them a name! How cool is that?!? Come on over to the dark side! 😆
Greetings from Latvia and our local RC club! Waiting for my first ClodBuster in the mail! I also watched your live broadcast, but on repeat. In this part of the world, there are no such memories of the old Clods, because in 1987 there were very few RCs here at all. So there will be new experiences and new memories. Thanks for the video!
The Clodbuster is such a fun truck, wish I had kept mine. I do still have my OG Kyosho USA-1 that was the only competition the Clod ever had. Everything else was smaller and 2wd.
4:25 took me driving on race tracks to appreciate the value of fast higher quality servos, and I can only recommend it, especially onroad. Even if you race just for fun and not competitive. It is a lot more fun to drive if your car behaves more predictable and responds quicker. The two biggest "hello there!" moments in my RC-life so far were back then when I switched from my Spektrum DX3R DSM2.0 transmitter to a Sanwa M12 FHSS4. Year of No Lexan is off to a horrible start, but on the bright side you've got 50 weeks to recover! I love the Ken Block homage paint jobs, he was an incredible influence in motorsport and I have definitely gone back from time to time to re-watch his videos. The Hoonicorn reveal from Gymkhana 7 is one of my all-time favorites.

I just looked and I still have an old, scanned photo of it with 1990 date stamp :) It was all decked out with light kit and in the snow, so you can drive them in the snow.
You gotta get some Arch Fab bumpers/servo mounts on that Clod with a dual servo setup. Your servo is going to destroy that stock steering. Also, they are great in the snow! The tires really help them float.
My 12 year old and I build Tamiya kits together. They are fun to build together. I have a lunchbox to build soon. Going to make a Mystery Machine out of it. Also building a M-05 soon.

The servo and the clod Buster out performs the entire truck by at least a factor of 10. I suppose the body has some value as well. Unfortunately unfortunately I have never been drawn to monster drugs but they are a critical piece of the history of RC

Hope you put a SBG sticker on the racing car to let everybody know who is coming their way 😃 Looking forward to the next installments, always cool 👍
I have a mini-z skyline coming that I want to make look hyper real. I got the white readyset to easily change colors to something I like. Very excited as I have been after this version for many years.
I love Tamiya monster trucks. Building my own clod right now with Holmes 21t retro sport motors and an injora 35kg servo . Body is done up as Excaliber the 80’s monster truck
Thanks Matt for saying what we all in the RC community feel about ken block hit me hard as well. I keep trying to get my cars in finished state but then I buy start a new project or break something haha
Love the m08, you may want to ask if additives are allowed and use the mediums on the front, otherwise you'll have too much steering. I occasionally race an m06 with the same tyres and I think I've the hard compound on the front with a little super glue on the outer side wall, helps with reducing initial turn in at speed but definitely ask the guys racing at the club.
I'm not sure about your club but I race mini at ours and we glue up the diewalls to make the steering tires fold less and use brake clean on a rag to wipe the tires before you hit them with some tire sauce.
Great content as always. Love your spin on the pig paint job. I used to do composites for Newman/Haas Racing and it was always fun to guess whose paint was left on the damaged areas.
My first rc cars, (not the ones that only turned when backing up) , were -in order 1. Grasshopper 2. Blackfoot 3. Clodbuster Wish I still had em. That was 14- 17 . only one was new. That's why I own the Clone now, I don't buy knockoffs... But I bought that one! 😁
I am waiting on my next build to come in. It is a vs4-10 phoenix straight axle. That is what is going to be on my "desk" bench. I had a full custom carbon fiber clod that I built back in the 90s.
@scalebuildersguild Yeah, my best friend has the phoenix portal. I like it, but I'm not a fan of portal axles. I was so glad when Vanquish came out with the straight axle. Just more parts to wear out and break.
I've got 2 running clods and enuff parts the build at least 1 more 1 has a Juggernaut cab and a aluminum flatbed the other is a race clod on a esp chassis and a team orange gen8 body So much fun
Very cool. The Clodbuster looks fun. Not really a monster truck guy but I've had a lot of fun with my LMT. Wanting to try carpet racing, too. Need to figure out what's the best way to start.

You did a great job with that pink. That car will be fun. I just got a mst drift car rmx 2.0. I love full size drift cars. Did it before my eyes went bad. His daughter I feel will be keeping the block name in racing. Anyway Long comment. Haha sorry eh. Lol. Great video man. 😎👍👍
So, I recently ordered a Kyosho Fazer Mk2 and I noticed that the wheels use 12mm hex adapters. Crawlers also use the 12mm. Can you use beadlocks instead of having to glue them on? I haven't gotten it yet so I can't compare on my own.
😢Sad start to the motor sports world. Ken Block and then Robbie Pierce. R.I.P. Matt, here’s a little tip for racing on carpet. Get yourself a can of fabric anti static spray and apply it to the underside of the chassis. It helps keep it from picking up a lot of debris. Most of all go have fun and don’t get to upset when that 12 year old kid beats you! Lol! 😂
I was 19 when the clod clodbuster came out, let's just say I was busy chasing girls at the time. I made up for it by getting a thunder tech based clod monster many moons ago
Happy new year🎉 considering you’re from canada do you ever have issues ordering from big sites? i’m worried to order something because i’m afraid it won’t come. Thank you! and great video
Happy new year!! Which sites are you considering ordering from? I order a lot from Horizon, Amain, Traxxas, Vanquish... pretty much all of them! If you can be more specific, I can share my experience. Thanks for watching 🇨🇦!
I had the honor of sharing some of the rally stage roads with Ken (and Travis ). Huge huge huge loss to our community in rally..😪 I also think either I send you my XMaxx to play with, or you find one from someone! (Cough cough, Traxxas, Matt NEEDS an XMaxx).. you'll be a changed man. We've discussed this! Lol
Man, you ways have the GOOD stuff!!! I'm hoping I have some money when that auction goes live. Anyways... Didn't you say you have a guy who makes custom scale driver figures? If so, can you please direct me in that general direction? I'd be most appreciative.
Also... I recently purchased the RC4WD Gelande 2 Cruiser in 1/10 scale. It's a BIG 10th scale, too. Probably closer to 1/8 scale if they really wanted to get it close. Anyhoo... I want to get a figure that looks like my dad because he owned one of these old Tiyote Gland Bruisers. So, in your professional opinion, what size figure would fit that rig best? As always, thanks for your advice.
I wouldn't say that I'm averse to competition, and all the work I put into the Monthly Mayhems is evidence of that! I guess for me, my process is the most important thing. Does that answer your question?
@@scalebuildersguild totally. And I hope said question came off as I intended and not… asshole-ish-y. I didn’t even consider the M.Mayhem’s! By the way, the last one was absolutely gorgeous. I enjoy one on one competition, especially things like build-off’s or other creative type stuff. What I’m NOT crazy about is competition in a huge group setting. Not for me. Comps, etc. I’m probably over analyzing all of it, but I’d guess it comes from growing up wrestling/grappling/fighting and not ever really being into TEAM sports or the more “popular” stuff. Wow…. Longest and most un-asked-for RUclips comment of all time lol! I’m so sorry. But yes, that answers my question. Lol.
***Honesty alert*** I miss scale builders guild building scale builds. I can see a build/review of the clod buster in about 6,000 places on RUclips. Not sure how it fits in to a show that starts with the word "scale..." Other than the body being what it has become famous for- other than clod buster builds. Tamiya carpet pink pig- the tone in your voice says you're not really into it and well... "Episode 26 year of no lexan" and here we are with a -LEXAN- body that's not a "scale build" See what I'm getting at? You're smart enough to not contradict yourself. What's happening here? Traxxas sledge? I can watch videos from Traxxas. You had a unique angle on YT, but it's really venturing off into a whatever may be may be type of show. You have a great attention to detail, and building skills better than most. I've always enjoyed your custom builds but it's getting tuff to keep watching the random chaos that it has become. I miss the old Lazer focused, scale builder hobbyist. There's more scale builds on rc everyday than your show lately. You guys maybe should think about swapping show titles. Clods and Traxxas monstrosities are more like rc everyday vehicles, and he's definitely a scale builder... Sorry, don't want to come off so stout, I just don't bs or sugar coat, I save that for the sales team. Just an honest opinion here. Look at it like what it is, a work review. You seem to have switched departments along the way somewhere but we need you back in your office now sir😊 Please, more scale builds in 2023. That's your main audience. Don't slap us with any more ham sandwiches 🫠 In closing, That was a very cordial, and well spoken farewell to Ken Block. Love ya bye!
Hi! Thanks for your VERY lengthy comment! I appreciate your opinion, but I'm going to keep doing what I do. The reason I spend countless hours creating content for people to enjoy (for free) is because I''m passionate about ALL aspects of the hobby. Not just Scale. Just like my baseball hat says, "Can't Please 'Em All." I refuse to pigeonhole myself into just doing scale when there are so many other fun categories as well, and I want to encourage people to try new things as well!
Just built my first clod too. Couldn’t leave it stock of course though. CPE everything including a time warp chassis and rc4wd beadlocks 😂 oh well. New Year’s resolution 1 is now under the fail column 🤷🏼
What have you done to that body Audi? No Porsche body style deserves that Matt. Not a tribute to Ken. He was in love with the eighties in which there was no mass coverage of baby pink. But your hat says it all
A pink Porsche? Hmm... pretty.😁😁😁
The paint job for the Sledge looks pretty fantastic. I wish you would've featured it a bit more. Ken Block was nothing short of amazing. A pioneer and a family man. Truly an inspiration for SO many people!
Absolutely, very sad!
The Blackfoot was one of my first obsessions but the Tamiya Mountaineer was the one that really did it for me. Obsessed over that for a LONG time.
My dad handed me down his original Clodbuster when I was a kid. I love that thing. It still runs to this day. Aluminum chassis? Maybe "Sassy Chassis"? Was one of the aftermarket hop-ups for the Clod in it's heydays.
Good times we live in the Clod Buster is so iconic and that new color is sweet!…
love ths series! i gotta say you have me captivated on doing a Tamiya build. i have never done one. i agree, that grey clodbuster is amazing looking. thank you for all that you do and chronicling it on youTube
Thank you! If you get a chance to try a Tamiya, go for it!
Great episode. I got a clodbuster on Christmas in 88 and it was so awesome. I built a little “indoor” MT course beside my garage. Fun times
Very cool!
Thanks Matt another great show sir. I really like your Sledge looks AMAZING. Take care hope you have a great weekend 🇬🇧🇨🇦🕊️✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks, you too!
Appreciate you sharing, yeah We’re here watching.

It just felt way more connected to the car and made it way easier to drive, but I would expect todays Spektrum to be as fast.
But maybe if you meet someone at the track who has some super quick Futaba or Spektrum stuff, ask if they have a spare receiver and if they mind if you tried it in your car.
And the second "hello there!" moment was, when I replaced a Hitec LPF servo in my touring car with a Sanwa LPF servo that had the same specs on paper as the Hitec, but cost two or three times as much, don't remember anymore.
It truly was a night and day difference, 5/5 DO recommend!

Thanks for your support and R.I.P. Ken Block!

i think ken blocks had more dnf's than actual finishes
Ah the 12-year-old feeling. I think that was the age when I decided I needed one and saved like crazy for a couple years and bought one. I just looked and I still have an old, scanned photo of it with 1990 date stamp :) It was all decked out with light kit and in the snow, so you can drive them in the snow.
So cool! I'm getting a lot of nostalgic comments like this!
You gotta get some Arch Fab bumpers/servo mounts on that Clod with a dual servo setup. Your servo is going to destroy that stock steering. Also, they are great in the snow! The tires really help them float.

Love the ClodBuster. Looks awesome. There is something about Tamiya as you said. I always enjoy building them.

That Clod is awesome!! You need a bow tie grill and Chevrolet tailgate for sure though!
The servo and the clod Buster out performs the entire truck by at least a factor of 10. I suppose the body has some value as well. Unfortunately unfortunately I have never been drawn to monster drugs but they are a critical piece of the history of RC
that clod would pair well in a snow bash with the chilly willy!

A stock Clod is AWESOME fun in the snow - you gotta try it!!
Surprisingly, we don't have any snow at the moment!
What’s on the bench weekly this week is looking like a CCXRC video with monster trucks! Are you the new KING of RC? Trading pink paint sounds good.
Nope! Just trying new things and sharing them with everyone!

I bought 2 of the txt 1 , i just got mine running again with reefs 440 servo and a hobbywing 880 dual motor on 15 turn motors and 2s lipo . Its fast

How does the Reefs servo do powering the dual steer setup? I'm going to guess it works well but I was curious.
Porsche needs to be the hoonipigisus
So, I recently ordered a Kyosho Fazer Mk2 and I noticed that the wheels use 12mm hex adapters. Crawlers also use the 12mm. Can you use beadlocks instead of having to glue them on? I haven't gotten it yet so I can't compare on my own.
I bought a RC4WD FJ-55 to build my first RC4WD kit it is LWB kit. I have built over 100 kits.
So cool!
on december 27th i went to a hobby store and bought a CLOD for myself
Nice! Enjoy!
Now going to retro my sons txt 1 next.
Cool!
Lol! 😂
I see that Blizzard on the shelf, is it original ? I've been searching for an EV one for a reasonable price.
the pits are wet weather tyres
I was 19 when the clod clodbuster came out, let's just say I was busy chasing girls at the time. I made up for it by getting a thunder tech based clod monster many moons ago
Cool! Very nostalgic!
Damn it was hoping to be the first comment haha.
Happy new year, looking forward to another year of these videos!
Happy New Year and thanks for watching!
Nice! Let me know when you plan to race i may join
I had the honor of sharing some of the rally stage roads with Ken (and Travis ). Huge huge huge loss to our community in rally..😪
I also think either I send you my XMaxx to play with, or you find one from someone! (Cough cough, Traxxas, Matt NEEDS an XMaxx).. you'll be a changed man. We've discussed this! Lol
Huge loss for the community, but it's cool that you knew him!
you mean the correct spelling of the word tyres ;)
Man, you ways have the GOOD stuff!!! I'm hoping I have some money when that auction goes live. Anyways... Didn't you say you have a guy who makes custom scale driver figures? If so, can you please direct me in that general direction? I'd be most appreciative.
Go to classictvtoys.com and check out their custom options!
@@scalebuildersguild will do. Thanks, again.
Omg where’d you get that mclaren hoodie
mclarenstore.com. I don't know if they still have that one, but they've got some cool stuff!
🤘🤙
Clodbuster not good in snow? You've gotta run it in the snow!!!
11:19 - Sledge be like 😬
Where was red Chevy K5 😢 ? My heart hurts
Lots of content on it! Check back and you’ll find it!
Have you always been averse to competition? Why, do you think? If I may ask, that is.
Lol.
Who are you and what have you done with Matt?! Those headlight stickers on The Pig…
What about them? Expecting a Googly eye?
@@scalebuildersguild yes!! Do it! Makes you go faster.
***Honesty alert***
I miss scale builders guild building scale builds.
"Episode 26 year of no lexan" and here we are with a -LEXAN- body that's not a "scale build"
See what I'm getting at?
You seem to have switched departments along the way somewhere but we need you back in your office now sir😊
Please, more scale builds in 2023. That's your main audience. Don't slap us with any more ham sandwiches 🫠
In closing,
That was a very cordial, and well spoken farewell to Ken Block.
Just like my baseball hat says, "Can't Please 'Em All." I refuse to pigeonhole myself into just doing scale when there are so many other fun categories as well, and I want to encourage people to try new things as well!
i tend to know when im hitting the brakes... when im hitting the brakes...
Yeah, and I said I like to SEE when I'm on the brakes! 😉
But your hat says it all
You must not be familiar with the Pink Pig livery. Pretty popular on Porsche's, and this wasn't a tribute to Ken, it's an old school livery.
