Totally agree building and often rebuilding is best part! Currently building a 1/6 2000 ish Ford Excursion from what was a toy grade RC Ford F350 with a full hand made metal underside. Wow its been going on a long time now! 🤣👍
Yes, the fitting, figuring how to get that look and design you wanted is really what's fun about this hobby. I'm new into this hobby but have been a builder of "something" all my life. You and a few others out there have been so great at helping me feel comfortable diving into a couple of pretty big builds. The one thing my builds all have.... An SBG sticker in the back window... Thanks!!
Welcome to the hobby! We're always here to help out... you should check out the forum if you haven't yet. There are a lot of really amazing builders on there too.
I love tinkering after a build is done. I love the inital build process but I really love coming back to the bench after running my rigs and tinkering to get that extra degree of climbing or that extra 2 tenths off at the race track.
I agree. It's worth taking the time to make things look right. It's part of the enjoyment of the process. Rushing through a project is not always enjoyable and avoiding the 'ugly is forever ' factor is satisfying.
I can't wait to see the finished product. In the last couple months I have veered away from the comp style trucks to building and customizing more "scale" appearance trail rigs.
Your build is coming along nicely, but the correct engine for the cucv is a 6.2 liter GM diesel. I used to work on those in the army. One thing not to forget is the front bruschetta guard and front & rear tow hooks
Agreed, I never drive any of my RC's. Not because they are shelf queens, I just enjoy the build/creative process vs driving them. My level of detail and quality has improved a lot over the years due to inspiration from the SBG and others.
Yes, I agree with 'building is the best bit' Its very rewarding to see your ideas come to reality. My heads full of ideas n not enough time! Dont be worried about how long they take. One of my current builds is into its second year! (Other projects in between). Enjoy!
I'm new to the hobby so for now I enjoy painting lexan bodies and tinker8ng with the performance of my crawlers. I'm looking forward to getting a 3d printer so I can start custom builds!
Your build is looking phenomenal, loving the detail and direction of it. Agree 100%, building something is a blast. I really enjoy the thought process that goes into a one-off build, a great challenge. Love seeing something get produced out of base materials.
Loving the cucv build honestly, I really enjoy the building part of the hobby as much as running them. I always done car and truck models, but the rc’s are just a bigger version of them sometimes. Can’t wait to see that one finished, keep up the good work.
I have to agree I have come to enjoy the building more and more over the years about 60/40 for myself. I love getting out on the trails and rocks especially with like minded people but I will spend time every day out in my rc work shop doing something even if it’s just staring at a project and coming up with a vision in my head. Every build it try and push my skills just a little more. This next project on my bench has me a little nervous. New tools, thinks i haven’t tried, probably my most expensive project but hey I couldn’t think of a single thing that could go wrong lol
Looking good, and that's coming from someone who's actually ridden in a CUCV. As for the carburetor and air cleaner being too high, you may have to cut the bottom of the engine block down and make it sit down further in between the chassis rails. Keep up the good work, man. And, thanks for all the awesome content.
Thank you. Not a scale builder yet, perhaps I will be someday. May I add, cool project and an extra thank you for a new WOTBW episode, luckily for us, also in 2023. Cheers boss.
I at one time i owned a 1984 M1028 CUCV. I'm so very glad your building one. My only big hang ups are the front end and the rain gutters on the cab. For the wheels I would suggest the rc4wd rally wheels. As CUCV's only had either the 6 or 8 lug nuts on the wheels.
I honestly didn't know there was a early square body Canadian CUCV. I miss mine, I've got a new F-150 now. Every once in a while I pretend to "sing along" to the tune of a 379 j code diesel.
Thatsa cool build! 🤙 Although plastic, the stock traxxas trx unimog wheel would make a good match. I've ran them before on couple builds. Good looks and durable.
Love the progress! I'm really look forward to seeing how this truck turns out, though if it's anything like your others, it'll be amazing. Thanks for keeping the weekly updates coming, it's interesting to see what you're getting done on everything you're working on.
Ahhhhh you sir are my hero once again 😉 You have my utmost respect. I love this build. Interior is looking great and the engine detail is the cherry on top. Well executed👌 I can't get enough of your particular attention to detail, witty humor and sincere love of this hobby. Nice to see you in your sweet spot again. Ps, tell Josh to stop using black shrink tubing on red wires arghhh lol🤪😂
Love this one! After building my k30 I told myself I wouldn’t build another one and seeing this makes me want to build another 🤦🏼♂️ I’ll do my best to just live through your build
I had an 86 CUCV in high school, weak ole 6.2 diesel, but that thing was unstoppable and didn’t have enough power to hurt itself and those big one ton axles even with 38 inch bias ply Buckshots. I’d like to build one like my old truck and try to use this Phoenix straight axle builders bundle I got for Christmas as a base and incorporate some RC4WD K44 axles, maybe a mix of leaf and links….
Where's your knife? I remember these in CFB Calgary, but I think they were almost phased out by the LSVW when I was in the army. Cool build. I am looking forward to tour racing videos.
That thing is definitely going to look great when you're done. I've have gotten to the point that I prefer building over driving. That includes building courses.
I'm doing my first major mods on a Defender TRX4M, I am doing the shortened cab/bed mod. I posted some pics on Reddit, my work space is ridiculously chaotic... although a tiny bit cleaner today after a garage cleaning today. :D
Boy are you right about taking your time ..Look once , twice, trice and now the fourth time ..now ponder the change ..go back to step one again then decide to move your chair forward and ponder again ...guess what decide not to decide today put aside until tomorrow and start over with a new set of eyes..then move forward and do what to decided to do a week ago ..yes a week went by before i decided to change my mind back...lol...
I couldn't see as well as you could but I thought the lines on the door panels looked like they were carpeted like most door panels are these days and gave them a rougher and more authentic look.
I’m actually old enough and lucky enough to have driven a 3-speed manual column shift Ford Econoline 100. It was my first vehicle in the early 1990s and I loved to take that thing on road trips. We had it set up with a collapsible table/bed in the back for camping. #vanlife about 20 years before van living actually became a thing. @@scalebuildersguild Yes, I did, and checked out the auctions (hence the Jeep roof removal bit). However, if I remember correctly, you mentioned selling some things outside of the auctions (to sell them on the forum maybe). I was wondering about those. But thanks for the answers! :)
@@scalebuildersguild the real reason is because I don’t have your skills. Or ever build would turn into a scale build. Lol. Just made a cowl induction hood and it is not pretty. 😂😂

You DO have a dog! Hes precious. Jesse said you had one, and I didnt believe him. Now I owe him money. Thanks a lot. 🐕
Yep! He's pretty awesome. How much do you owe him?
Really enjoying what’s on the bench

@@scalebuildersguild I feel like that is a bumper sticker for next run! :D
Flat black chassis was what the ones I drove had! With a little camo overspray from touch ups.
Watching you and Richard build CUCV RCs is/was fun. I got my license to drive one in 1992 in Korea.
Very cool!
I agree with you. The best time is figuring out the solutions to your problems. Keep up the good work.

Make drop brackets that attach to the frame rails to be able to mount the engine lower. The build is coming along nicely
I can't think of many 8 lug wheels but maybe design/print a 8 lug wheel nut cover. The CUCV looks awesome BTW.
I like this. Showcasing builds in progress. Much like how this series started originally.
