      Nice! My spoiler has been on more than 2 years and still holding up pretty good! One thing I’m seeing on mine is on the left and right tips on the ends… they’re lifting up very slightly. Maybe because I didn’t exactly warm up the tape and my trunk before sticking it on. Also the spoiler tends to have an upward curve (at least on mine) so any weakness on the 3M tape will allow the ends to lift up a bit. Other than that my spoiler is still attached on the trunk pretty solidly. Thanks for watching!

    I bought 3 m tape anyway. Idk how good the tape included is. My wing could be airborne and it's too late. Good vid

      Yeah the included tape really wasn't very sticky when I tested it with my finger. So the 3M tape is definitely the way to go!

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  2 года назад +3

      I installed the spoiler on my C300 just over 3 years ago and it’s still attached to my trunk! What you saw in my video was my actual installation. For the most part it’s still holding on strong with the 3M tape. The only issue is the tips on each end. They are slightly up where the adhesive isn’t sticking as well anymore. You can’t really tell on a quick glance but I know the adhesive needs replacement on the ends. That’s because the spoiler has a slight bow upwards so it constantly has pressure pulling up on the 3M tape. Even after 3 years I’m not worried. I drive on the freeway quite a bit and it’s still attached quite well. But one of these days I may take it off and reinstall with new tape putting weight on the ends in the beginning to ensure good contact with the trunk and spoiler. Hope this helps!

      @HarryWangHungLo 2 года назад +4

      I’ve learned from my second install of a trunk spoiler is to wipe down the surface of the trunk where the spoiler makes contact with 3M adhesion promoter after cleaning with rubbing alcohol. It really sticks on years after installing.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. Just one question: do you think it would be easy to remove if needed?

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  4 года назад +4

      Hey! Hopefully I won’t need to remove my spoiler but I’ve seen tutorials where people used fishing line to help remove their spoiler. I don’t know how easy it is to do that. On my spoiler the very tip on the left and right are just barely coming up so I know I can get a fishing line under the tape. But the double layer on the top of the trunk may be hard to get through. But I think if the adhesive was warmed up a bit with a hair dryer it would be easier. Hope this helps!

    Hello,do u think the spoiler will not fall using only the tape ?

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  Год назад

      The 3M tape will hold the spoiler on securely. The spoiler you see in my video was installed in 2019 and it is still attached to my trunk today. The only thing I would do differently is that after I stick the spoiler onto the trunk I would use something heavy to place on both ends to ensure maximum adhesion. Currently the end tips have slightly come up about a millimeter. But overall the spoiler is very solidly adhered to the surface of the trunk. Hope this helps!

      I do not have a video on how to remove the spoiler because I’ve never removed it. But this summer I may have to remove it and replace the 3M tape. But from some research it seems that most people use fishing line to help separate the tape from the car. It might help to warm up the adhesive with a hairdryer first or do it on a hot day. Hope this helps!

    what about washing the car or car wash will that tape hole ?

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  4 года назад +1

      It’s been about 1.5 years since I installed the spoiler and shot this video. The spoiler is still going strong! I only wash the car by hand and have no problems with it. However I do not go through a car wash though. The only thing I see is that the tips on each end are slightly popping up. Partly because there isn’t as much surface area to apply the 3M tape and also the spoiler naturally wants to bend up. But looking at it you wouldn’t be able to tell that it’s not stuck as tight right at the tips. The rest of the spoiler is attached very solidly. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Touched up the inside of the holes with paint and let it sit for a day, then used silicone as a seal in the four mounting holes when I drawed everything in with the bolts.

      Hey I’ve had the spoiler on my car about 10 months now and it’s still attached! It still feels really secure on my trunk. The only thing I see is that on both ends where the spoiler gets pointy I can see the 3M tape coming up slightly. On the ends there’s not as much surface area for the tape. Someday I might have to remove and replace the tape. But so far it’s holding on well! I do a lot of freeway driving and it’s holding up to all the wind at 60-70 MPH.

The only thing is that the adhesive on end tips of the spoiler are starting to come up a bit. That’s the part where I have the least amount of 3M tape. At some point I’ll probably remove and reattach new 3M tape. But for now it is still attached firmly on the main part of the trunk. Thanks for watching!

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  3 года назад

      Yes! Using the 3M tape shown in the video my spoiler is still attached to my trunk! I installed it 2 years ago and it still holds on really strong! 3M tape is what’s recommended for attaching things like this to cars like carbon fiber parts and trim pieces. But for this spoiler do not use the tape that came pre-stuck to the spoiler. As mentioned in the video the factory tape wasn’t even sticky. Only use 3M brand tape. Hope this helps!

      The spoiler you saw me install on my C300 has been on for about 2 years now and it’s still attached to my trunk by the 3M tape. I believe that’s how a lot of lip spoilers are attached these days. I drive on the freeway long distances quite often around 70 mph and it’s still holding strong.

    -SUPER STRENGTH MOLDING TAPE™

    • @TheRenderQ
      @TheRenderQ  2 года назад

      Yeah when I saw how ‘unsticky’ the original tape was I knew that wasn’t going to work. The 3M tape I used was the right choice. I’ve had my spoiler on for over 3.5 years and it’s still attached. The only thing I’d do differently is pay more attention to the ends. The ends are slightly up now and partly that’s due to the natural upward curve of the molded plastic. So when you attach the spoiler put as much 3M tape as you can on the ends. Then place a heave object on the ends as you wait for the tape to get a good seal on the trunk. Thanks for watching!

    • @nickspaulding1511
      @nickspaulding1511 4 года назад

      It’s not seriously noticeable, it is a little noticeable though. I used hobby glue to kind of caulk it in place so air can’t get under because I feel like enough washes would loosen it up :/ I’d say the proper way is best long term my holds up so far however

      Nice! Definitely buy your own 3M tape to install the spoiler. I’ve had mine on for about 3 years now and it’s still securely attached. The only thing is that the end tips are slight up because of the natural tendency of the spoiler to bow up. So if had to do it again I’d apply more 3M tape on the tips. But there’s not much surface area there so I may have already put as much as I could there. Thanks for watching!
