  • Because the boiler is all the way on the other side of the house we decided to install a second water heater to cut down on the time it would take for hot water to reach the master bathroom. For just a single bathroom a 3gpm system would work find but I wasn't able to find anything that small which had good reviews. Most if not all of the ones I found were made for RV's or outside camping. So I splurged and got this Rannai V65iP Propane Tankless Hot Water Heater which will produce up to 6.5gpm of hot water.
    In this video I'll go over the install and show how to purge the system of air and debris before turning it on for the first time. We are very excited to be able to actually take a full warm shower and finally get out of the camper.

    Background: We are building a house offgrid utilizing an off grid solar power system and rain water harvesting system to supply our home. Living off the grid is new to us as it is to many others. We hope our build will help inspire others to build a home off the grid too. #diy #offgrid #homestead

    We need one of these

      It has been nice. We started at 105 degrees and that wasn't cutting it. The max is 120 which is where we have it set now.

    You could rig a return line and you would have hot water all the time with no delay.

      Don't know how that would work on a tankless water heater since it's only on when you call for hot water. I've done loops before from a hot water tank which was on a pump that would turn on in the mornings and evenings. It worked great but using the same setup here would only cause the tankless system to run nonstop.

    There should be a black and white hood too for your vents. I just got this installed yesterday

      Yep, I have the boot but was waiting until the siding is done before installing it. Until then I used liquid flashing

    Did you have to run a condensate trap (or trap loop) off the top collar that holds the vent elbow? I have a similar natural gas model (V75i). I am going to do a condensate trap loop, and I'm curious to find out what type of hose to use.

      Funny, I was just servicing the unit last night and realized I forgot to run the drain. Just a plastic clear hose is fine. I'm routing it into the sewer.

    What was the part number for the vent kit that you ordered? And what was the hole size you had to drill through your wall?

      Here is the one I used;

      I believe I used a 5.5" or 6" hole saw.

    What is your gas line pressure regulated to I had to put a 11” WC regulator just before my unit because the 2 psi that the rest of the gas system is was too much pressure for the unit

      I can't remember what it was set to but do remember having to turn it up to get enough pressure to everything. We have a propane generator, boiler, stove, clothes dryer, and the instant hot water heater. Plus I ran a line to the camper if needed.

      It is a Rinnai V65iP Tankless Hot Water Heater non-condensing unit.

    What kind of a warranty does that come with? 🤔

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  2 года назад

      Honestly I don't know, lol! I'm not a big warranty guy as they tend to be hard to actually claim. As long as it works when I plug it in and doesn't die after a couple weeks I don't worry about it. I'm sure there is at least a one year manufacturer warranty like most items have.

    You forgot to put the white (interior) and black (exterior) grommets for the vent pipe before installing it. Why?

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  Год назад +1

      I used liquid flashing on the outside because I have not done siding yet. I might have to remove the exhaust pipe and didn't want to risk damaging the grommets in the process. If I can avoid taking the pipe out when siding is done then I could use the grommet on top of the liquid flashing for an extra seal. Thanks for watching and commenting.
