We got a small thing wrong in this video. It was in fact Rudolf Barth that first built Doppel Looping (double looping) in 1979. Oscar Bruch did go on to open his own version, as stated in the video, in 1981. Sorry :)
I rode it it winter wonder land but what I wanna know is if its better in the back row or the front because its SO intense so naturaly the back row would be better but I dont have any first hand experience in the back because I was with my brother when I rode it and he's SO basic!!!
Had the opportunity to ride it at Bremer Freimarkt in Germany yeeeeears ago. In fact Bremer Freimarkt (which is the largest fair in norther ln germany and has a rich history) featured every single coaster mentioned in the Video, including Thriller and my favorite: the back then so called HimalayaBahn, which to my delight returned 2018 as AlpinaBahn to Bremen. Thanks for your great educational as well as entertaining content - keep up the good work!
I really appreciate your pronunciation, especially of the ‚ch‘ 👍 But you did one small mistake: the H in BHS means ‚Hütten‘ and not ‚Hutten‘ (which is the german name for ‚huts‘, the star wars alien race of jabba the hut 😂)
I remember growing up a parkfan and thinking "one day I'll go to Oktoberfest and ride the Olympia looping" only to have it come to me in London. I almost lost my mind seeing it on the poster. I thought it was too good to be true. It's still so smooth yet so intense, A true classic, long may it reign.
@@effiodiego i was in Vienna and went into the free theme park there and just stumbled upon the coaster. I rode it of course but I had no idea it was even there.
The amazing thing about Olympia Looping is not just that it's an incredible travelling coaster, but also that it's an incredible coaster full stop. Even if this were installed as a permanent attraction at a park, I still think it would be rated very highly!
I rode this in 2007 and loved it. Out of the big traveling coasters I have ridden, Olympia Looping was my favorite one. So easy to re-ride while offering some great intensity. Great video!
First rode Olympia Looping in 1995 at 6 years old at my local fair. I've since rode it countless times on countless fairs in Germany as well as at Winter Wonderland in recent years. The fact that such old ride is the star attraction at Winter Wonderland, shows what a good ride it is. Big transportable rides like this use to be very common in Germany in the 80s, 90s and early 00's, sadly there are just Olympia Looping and Alpina Bahn left now.
One of my top coasters! Rode this coaster for the first time at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in 2019, I was so blown away by this ride, the smoothness and forces, it’s incredible! Hope to ride it somewhere this year!
I've been on this a few times now, at the last two years of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. It's not just a great travelling coaster, it's a great coaster full-stop. Fairly comfortable, forceful, thrilling. Really hoping I'm able to ride it again this year.
@@kyled6168 Doesn't Winter Wonderland have unlimited ride passes as well (from memory)? If so, buying 9 individual tickets must have been a pretty big rip off lol.
2 Funfacts: 1) The record for moving the Olympia Looping is 5 days. It closed on sunday evening in Düren and reopend in Straubing on friday afternoon (these two cities are ~600km apart!). 2) The coaster division of BHS is today‘s Maurer Rides
Anton S. Is my favorite designer and those coasters that are left today are always my favorite. I got to work at the mind bender when I was in high school. So much fun. Especially when maintenance would let us rode with the trim breaks off. Hall of fame coaster
I rode this in Hyde Park when it was in London. It was a good ride, I definitely think it’s worth the price and it is quite forceful especially with full trains. It was very interesting to see a video on this and learn about it’s history and I think you did a great job.
First ride in 2016 at Hyde Park, and WOW! Very smooth and has blackout inducing forces. New trains are a must though as the shoulder harnesses are so uncomfortable. If someone like Gerstlauer puts new trains on this thing then it'll be world class
I rode it last May in Cologne. Didn't know it was there (or that there was even a fair going on), but whilst crossing the river I spotted this beast from afar, and once I realised that it was the Olympia Looping, that was my day's planning out of the window. Even though it was May it was cold af and quite windy, so even though they were running just a single train it was basically walk-on and free choice of seat. As someone who generally doesn't like inversions this has to be just about the most fun I ever had on a roller coaster, and given it's age and the temperature it was incredibly smooth (much better than the Vekoma Looping coasters where my dislike for inversions comes from) and very intense. As it is quite expensive I only went for two rides
That’s an impressive coaster. It’s actually have been on Doppel Looping a few times. It used to be at the Westchester County Fair in Yonkers , NY. This fair has been defunct for several years. I remember the coaster was burnt orange at he time. I also got to ride The schuttle loop King Cobra when it was in Ocean City, MD. This was late 1980s
I hope to get to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in 2021 and get the 3 credits that normally come over here (Euro Coaster, Wilde Maus XXL and this). I have to say I am looking forward to this the most, especially that back row ride.
I have not but would love to ride Olympia. My home park in Utah, Lagoon has the original Doppel Looping now named Fire Dragon. The park has maintained it in pristine condition. It is absolutely amazing after all of these years how smooth and intense this ride is. I wish Lagoon would have bought Olympia back a year or so ago when it was for sale. Two of these in one park would have been amazing!
I rode it at Winter Wonderland Hyde Park today. Winter Wonderland didn't happen last year due to the pandemic. It's great to have it back. The ride is just so intense.
Last year I didn't even know it was in town here in Cologne, and whilst crossing the river just thought "that's a bit big". Then I recognised what it was and total change of plan, next thing I did was go for two rides, and boy was it worth it
I've never ridden a bad Schwarzkopf (though I'm sure someone will tell me such a thing exists.) They really have stood the test of time so well. My favorite is Shockwave at SFOT. Not only is it smooth and intense but it has surprisingly good airtime.
Living in the country where this coaster and its ancestors were created, I have ridden it multiple times. And the entire heritage line of Schwarzkopf transportable looping coasters (even though most work on this one has been done by a nother company it still follows the Schwarzkopf heritage) is just great. And they can remain their smoothness if properly maintained - the "Alpina Bahn" a coaster using the same type of track, just without inversions, is several years older and still provides a great ride experience. However, there are two little things I'd like to add - the "th" in the German Name Barth isn't pronounced like the English "th", it's just like a "t". Think of how you pronounce the "Th" in the name "Thomas". ;-) Also, the Looping Star that operated at Slagharen and is used to show the first transportable looping roller coaster built by Schwarzkopf wasn't the first one. The prototype that ran on the German fairs in the late 1970s is the one that operates at Frontier City, Oklahoma, USA today - going by the name of Silver Bullet. There are a few details where this prototype differs from the later batch of 7 Looping Stars. But yeah.. it's close enough to show the origins and probably it was easier for you to get footage of a Looping Star that you could use, so I won't be too pedantic. ;-)
The double looper was called Teststrecke ( Test track in English) and did it numerous times on numerous occasion (London Munich Karlsruhe Crange/Herne Dusseldorf
I rode this twice over my 1991 Christmas break in Berlin. Until now I never knew that it was the largest traveling rollercoaster. I wanted to go for a third time as I'm a rollercoaster junkie but my friend didn't. I remember it being quite smooth and I loved the back-to-back loops. Fun times! Not sure it would be a good idea to ride this at Oktoberfest being full of Bier and Bratwurst and all, it could get a little messy 🤮. Thanks for posting the video.
I have ridden this beauty 2 times, once in Cologne and once in Dortmund, both times it was located next to the Rhine River. Amazing Coaster, and those Loops are really forceful.
Saw this coaster in Karlsruhe, Germany in the spring of 1992. Can't believe it's still operating. Might have to visit Winter Wonderland (if it runs) this year to see it again.
Hello I am American here, I just want to tell you guys that we had giant steel portable rollercoaster built by Schwarzkopf here in the United States. It was called Doppel Looping Star and it was owned by Conklin Shows of Canada, the largest traveling amusement company in North America. The Doppel Looping Star was held at the Dade County Youth Fair located in Miami Florida for well over 25 years until it retired in mid 2000s. It takes close to 40 semi-trucks to transport the portable coaster, sadly Conklin Shows no longer operates at the Dade County Youth Fair, the new owners are North American Midways. As for the Doppel Looping Star, it was bought and sold by an overseas customer. The rollercoaster is no longer held in the United States. I was told that the rollercoaster is operating somewhere in a middle eastern country. Do a youtube search and you can see the Doppel Looping Star in action at the Miami Youth Fair.
It's awesome to hear that they still maintain and upgrade it. Magnetic trim brakes are the best thing that came to amusement rides recently. Buttery smooth braking every time, practically maintenance-free except for a routine check for metallic parts on the magnets.
Nice Video! I love Schwarzkopf Coasters old and simple but buttery Smooth.. Currently beeing assembled at 'Hamburger Dom' it opens in 5 days. Already excited! 😁 Got my last ride in London 2017.
Ah ... the Doppel Looping model. One of those was named Colossus and operated from 1983 to 1985 at Playcenter, a now defunct park located in São Paulo, Brazil and it was really really fun. It was later replaced by a Looping Star, but people have fond memories of it, myself included
Having a Schawrzkaf looping coaster nearby and knowing how many people get pretty bad tunnel vision or straight up blackout on the double looping makes me wonder about which loop this happens on this coaster
I rode it a long time ago on Oktoberfest in Munich. It was at the Prater in Vienna when I visited this year as well but I skipped it due to the very high price. It is a great coaster though from what I remember and maybe I'll ride it again at this years Oktoberfest.
I rode O.L. yesteryear in Düsseldorf. Teststrecke in Tilburg 2x. Unfort. not all the others. I regret missing out on the Looping Star in Slagharen before it was demolished as that was the 1st looping coaster in The Netherlands. And i like the more round loopings more than the more clothoid type loopings where the travel through the loop is more jerky.
While I won't be going anytime soon to Germany I have American Dreir looping in my home park at Indiana Beach . As of today it's being restored from negligent it received while in Mexico . No trims were used and that led to having the accident similar to mindbender . Can't wait for it to be done
I had to Chance to ride it in cologne, Germany and I loved it. Was really impressed how smooth it is for a ride that is assembled and reassembled over and over again. Coaster Bot, did you got to ride it yet?
I haven’t ridden this but I HAVE ridden a very similar ride to this, The Mindbender, at Galaxyland in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Canada...it’s not an identical layout, but it’s very similar in construction, only permanent and not traveling
Did the following Schwarzkopf roller coasters: alpina bahn (Oscar bruch) in Düsseldorf at the fair. looping star at bobbejaanland Belgium, the douple looper teststrecke in Tilburg and aachen on the fair, olympia looping at the fair in Düsseldorf.
I've ridden this thing twice one year ago. I liked it very much but there happened something that I didn't like at all. At my second ride the restraints (which go over your shoulder) seemed to compress during one of the high intensity vertical g-force sections. I first noticed this at the end of the ride but it was really uncomfortable to sit in it for the next minute where you travel around the back all the way to the station because my back felt pushed on very heavily :(
Really good videos, just subbed! Not sure if you'll see this, but you should do a video on the unwritten rules of coaster/amusement park etiquette! So things like, on a 4 person per row coaster, if you're a group of 3 and there's of 2 is directly behind you, let those two pair up with another pair, and you try to get a single rider from behind them (or vise versa if you're the duo, try to find a solo rider to match with the trio and you find another pair). Or only send 1 person from your group to the item storage bins. Or if you have to leave the line, realize that you shouldn't have someone "save your spot" for you to come back as the line has advanced, things like that!
it was my 1st coaster wit an inversion. i rode it once at hamburger sommerdom (i thik it was 2012 or 2013 idk tbh) i was 11 and while a bit scared it was my favorite coaster for a wile. (i was a enthusiast mroe or les at that age but wasnt allowed to go on any of the bigger coasters at heide park.
wow that thing still exists? oO I rode it once last century, ~1996 ? it was amazing, but I was just a kid ^^ unfortunately, this was the last year they took it to Cologne so I never saw it again. but it's cool that this Oldtimer is still up and running somewhere.

I haven’t ridden this but I HAVE ridden a very similar ride to this, The Mindbender, at Galaxyland in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Canada...it’s not an identical layout, but it’s very similar in construction, only permanent and not traveling
4:37, I thought those 2 where Zierer.
BHS helped as well as Zierer as far as I'm aware
Did the following Schwarzkopf roller coasters: alpina bahn (Oscar bruch) in Düsseldorf at the fair. looping star at bobbejaanland Belgium, the douple looper teststrecke in Tilburg and aachen on the fair, olympia looping at the fair in Düsseldorf.
Nice one Harry , very interesting..... 👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Thanks guys :)
I've ridden this thing twice one year ago. I liked it very much but there happened something that I didn't like at all. At my second ride the restraints (which go over your shoulder) seemed to compress during one of the high intensity vertical g-force sections. I first noticed this at the end of the ride but it was really uncomfortable to sit in it for the next minute where you travel around the back all the way to the station because my back felt pushed on very heavily :(
Munich Beer festival in 1999.....At might....don't remember much of the ride!!😃
Thank you, and this is a great video suggestion honestly!
it was my 1st coaster wit an inversion. i rode it once at hamburger sommerdom (i thik it was 2012 or 2013 idk tbh) i was 11 and while a bit scared it was my favorite coaster for a wile. (i was a enthusiast mroe or les at that age but wasnt allowed to go on any of the bigger coasters at heide park.
That's awesome :)
Rode it at Oktoberfest every year since 2010.
So bummed it isn’t going to happen this year..
wow that thing still exists? oO I rode it once last century, ~1996 ?
it was amazing, but I was just a kid ^^
unfortunately, this was the last year they took it to Cologne so I never saw it again. but it's cool that this Oldtimer is still up and running somewhere.
I went on olympia looping at winter wonderland (it was my first ever looping coaster i went on)
Awesome!
