I can’t believe I said Beatrix Potters Hilltop Cottage was in Yorkshire ! It is in the beautiful County of Cumbria, in The Lake District. Here is a lovely video by @Mirandamills for a closer look.

MY Dearest Friend Janet ..Thank you for sharing Miranda's letter .. I can picture all the things that she is writing about.. lol .. Truly, I loved it .. I will visit her channel again and again as she visits all the places I only DREAM about .A long time ago my husband to be , promised to take me to Europe.. Something calls me there I do believe it's every artist and Dreamer who lived out their dreams .Again, thanks for sharing. Love always 💜🎶

Caroline a pleasure, isn’t it a delightful channel. Hilltop farm is just so wonderful, like me you have poured over the exquisite illustrations of Beatrix’s books many times.
( I was lucky enough to visit 38 years ago , loved peeping over the little garden fence ) did I catch a little glimpse of Peter and Benjamin scurrying away ? 💜

Oh Janet your needle books are so very beautiful! I love the one with the circles of scraps, so lovely to look at and feel I imagine. All those gorgeous embroidery threads, the colors were delicious, I would have had a hard time choosing one! How beautiful was the iris and the crocus, Spring is definitely on her way. Dear Flo was looking stunning as usual as was sweeet Freddie🧵🐝🐞🏵🦋

Maria thank you so much. I couldn’t believe it when I went into the garden and out had popped the little Iris and crocus. My neighbour had given me a handful of spare bulbs in the Autumn and I potted them up in the vintage / antique flower pot given to me years ago. Isn’t it a blessing to use our hands in the garden and our art.
Freddie, Flo and I send our love 🩵🧵🪴🎨

Chrissie I have such fond memories of visiting the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, both stunning. I remember the Meadow Crainsbill flowers growing wild in the dry stoned walls in the Dales. As a child we travelled regularly up to Lancashire, Wigan to visit my Grandparents. I live in South London, the beautiful green spaces I show are protected areas ‘ green belt ‘ areas safe from the high rise buildings that surround us.

We had a penny sweetie shop right near where I lived run by two old women. They were so lovely. And after school Mummy would let me pop in there and get a few pennies of lollies. You could get so much with just a tiny bit of money back then. The little white paper bag would be all full up. xx Thank you for the memory Janet. xx I am watching a slow stitching a heart and bought some stuffing from our sewing recycled shop yesterday.

I really like your needle books. I’ve recently made one before watching this, but used muslin instead of felt. Later I saw that felt was better for needles so I may need to re-do the pages. 😄

Gail thank you so much, this got me thinking. I looked closely at my Mums one and she used a thick cotton and then at another one I have, this used a fabric called lint ( used for bandages ) back in the day people used what they had. Here is the video for my scissors case

I will be rewatching this video. I have wanted to make a needlebook or several now for ages, and now feels right. I always feel I don’t have what I need like the felt, last time was needles ( essential to sew), but hoping that can change soon so I can just make it. Ivory felt is hard to find here. I’m not sure I can mute or dye white. But I will try if its all I can do.

Jane good morning, lovely to see you, I trust you are keeping warm and cosy. A lovely conversation was started here in chat, so went to my vintage needle books ( those are on the slow stitch cat video ) and discovered back in the day the needle pages were created with Lint, someone called it Dr’s fabric ??? I think it’s a case of use what you can find, I rolled up some upholstery fabric inside my little cat needle case.

@@janetnash good afternoon to u Janet! I have been absent a few weeks lately but will catch up. Today we are at precipice of an ice storm coming. All is pretty, but it will change! I will be staying cozy indoors next few days.
So interesting it was called lint. It must have been a better version of today’s gauze strips, (cheese cloth), which are too porous. I may resort to natural cotton canvas or linen if I find some. I see how felt is easy to poke through. I will find something. Then from there I will expand to an organizer book because I scramble for tools searching but a grab and go is definitely what I need. I will start small. Your vintage needlebooks are great. All the ones you made amazing. I forgot if Flo has one or not. Im inspired to make them in all shapes and sizes too!

Love this idea with the deli paper. I suppose we call it parchment paper in the US? I made a small needle book from the cuff of a woman's blouse. It's a tad wider than a men's shirt cuff, so worked out well. It's stitched, of course :), and I used felt to hold needles & pins & is adorned with one of your buttons & a yo yo/puff. AND it's closed with the cuff buttons that came on the blouse.
