What a great album, one of my favs from the 70's.
Rod evans rules! Not fair he gets forgotten!!!!!!
One the saddest stories of hard rock that they didn't get the recognition they deserved and more with Evans getting tied up with that DP fiasco at the end of the 70s. I wish him well wherever he is today.
Very handsome face with chiseled features and great voice. Rod deserved better luck. I remember my uncles had this album and Deep Purple's Book of Talesyn.
The first Deep Purple voice
GREAT VOICE ROD EVANS!
Rhino is too cool.
FUCK! That's some really quality stuff!
The frontman sure loves his cowbell
Captain Beyond-Me fez lembrar épocas de aperitivos, inverno e muitos amigos falsos, barba grande e uma cara no chão.
Rod Evans could definitely sing. I just cannot understand why Deep Purple booted him. The reason given was that he was more of a pop singer. But then there is this where he is singing in a heavier style and doing it quite well.
@Cinematic Passages the difference is that Gillan was basically the FIRST one to do that. Wasn't repetitive back then because he was the only one.
according to Blackmore, at least part of it was that Rod wanted to move to America which he in fact did. logistically, that's a problem especially when the rest of the band doesn't want to do the same. there are other reasons but through the years I've seen interviews that reference this. lastly, Captain Beyond was on Capricorn Records out of MAcon GA which was known primarily for southern rock music. I remember people talking about CB and I was like, "yea, yea, guess they are another southern rock, Allman Brothers type group"... Boy was I wrong and happy to be. CB was great.
The reason was Ian Gillan. A superior singer with superior technique and power .. simple to understand ...
@@marcosgh5183 It's a matter of taste. I prefer Evans.
they needed a new Robert Plant!
Rod is true class. Even in this hendrix-alike music he is good good good! Meanwhile he is at his best within more sophisticated sound.
I need more cow bell !!!
My dad loved this band, good stuff !!!
Such an amazing group, that never really got off the ground. Much better than MKI Deep Purple, and on par with all the biggest groups of the 70's. Rod had such a unique and powerful voice. Such a shame that we only got two albums with him on vocals, and a third with a different singer.
My buddy who had a band turned me onto these guys!! Great music
man they were great
Saw Captain Beyond,Trapeze, and Wishbone Ash together. Saw them at least 3 or 4 times. Hindsight is 20/20 but I sure I could go back and experience all that again.
Great band
I've always liked Rod over Ian. Both good singers but Rod sounds better especially with Captain Beyond. His voice got better with time.
I am not really sure but... I think Rod Evans could replace (with sucess) Jim Morrison with The Doors after Morrison death...
Absolutely!
No doubt Rod Evans had a great voice . Yes he didn't soar into high note screech territory like Gillan but he could Bel Canto carry the tune and take it there nevertheless
If Rod sang like this and did less ballads, he might still be in Purple. Maybe.
Without doubt the best singer in the industry. Could sing heavy and do ballads.
Montreaux April 30, 1972 ( no ‘71).
Anyone looking at Dorman/Caldwell/Evans/Reinhardt from a distance could swear they were seeing Glover/Paice/Gillan/Blackmore in action. Call it "Rod Evans revenge on his former band", but I don't know what would have stopped him from taking them on the road calling themselves Deep Purple, except an injunction from a flaming mad Ritchie Blackmore. As it was, I don't know what kept him from crying "copycat"!
like everything about this song except the chorus and the cowbell during the guitar solo
More Cowbell !
i got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell
I think the extra drumming rules! Beyond were very prog!
They should have kept Rod Evans in Deep Purple. He was more of a pop singer but I'm sure he had potential to sing a harder style🤔
Has anybody ever heard of a song called "Spanish Castle Magic" by Jimi Hendrix ? 🙄🤐
Sounds a little bit like spanish castle magic.
I do love Ien Gillan, but I can't understand why deep purple wanted Rod Evans to leave the band. At some parts I don't recognize who sings rod or ien. For example ''hush''.
1972
Yes, April, 30 1972
Is this really from 1971 or it is from 1972 ?
thanks
wtf rod evans was ACTUALLY a good singer ???
He was an incredible singer! Do yourself a favor and check out the two albums he did with Captain Beyond! Congratulations, you just found your new favorite band!
@@Anjohl I'll do it, thanks for the recommendation dude.
@@Anjohl .....and I've just ordered them both myself! I look forward to hearing them 😀
Rod Evans era un gran frontman y cantante, pero no era el estilo que Purple necesitaba en esa época...
