I saw them two times. Very hard to do, as they didn't seem to tour much. I talked to Lee Dorman (Bass player), after the concert and I told him that they were very popular especially at college campus'. Why is it so hard to find them playing gigs I asked. He told me that their management sucked, and they were not happy about that. So sad that they should have been a lot bigger and well received. Still one of my favorite bands all time.
Not just them but there's a ton of unsung heroes out there just like that😮 especially from that great early 1970s era😊 talk about sucks just look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame😢
I was a freshman in HS listening to CB.I loved it. Great single coil sound from Rhino.Cant say enough about Bobby Caldwell who wrote it all! Lee Dorman & Rod Evans singing...one of the GOAT!
This is the only album I ever bought before I heard any of it. I liked the hologram,I liked the name, and a clue it was good,it said"Dedicated to the Memory of Duane Allman" on the back. I brought it home in 1972,played it,and LIKED it. Still a favorite.
I don't know if you have been through the time when I was married to Bobby C We had our daughter during the time when Captain Beyond was so ahead of the time 👍❤ Here's to the greatest memories then Armageddon alot of talent is sadly missed 😢 Bobby is one incredible talent 🎶🥁📀💿 Honeymooners rock
Wow how awesome is that😮 Bobby Caldwell is up there with my favorite of all time drummers such as the great Carl Palmer Neil Peart bill bruford Ansley Dunbar. What an absolute Legend he was or is I don't know is he still with us or has he passed on😮 I absolutely adored Armageddon and went through a couple copies of that back in the day😊 I thought Silver tightrope was better than Stairway to Heaven much better and the Buzzard was absolutely off of the chain for a hard-rocking progressive tune mostly due to Bobby Caldwell's drumming😮 you just happened to be married to my hero on the drums😊
+ACDC7369 I heard that, my brother !. With "Johnny Winter And", he was killa', also of course. Last I heard, he was still kickin' , Rick Derringer, also.
The Captain,...rock GODS,...NO BAND CAN TOUCH THESE GENIUSES ,..the amazing 1972 album makes mincemeat of today's worthless shit,..... Captain ,..the Gods of rock,..!!!,,..
Rod proved with this band that he could sing the blues and do the kind of vocals that Deep Purple didn't think he could. He was not treated at all fairly by the music industry. Thank you Rod for these fantastic songs and memories. Thankfully and deservidly so he's in the Rock n Roll HOF with Deep Purple. Wish he would have gone.
@@ferrreira no one knows, on different threads I’ve seen it reported he’s a nurse, a pediatric doctor, a chain store manager, in insurance, etc. Personally I am confident he donned the garb of “Captain Beyond” and danced madly backwards into the 8th dimension.
You also had Ron Evans from Deep Purple and Bobby Caldwell one of the greatest drummers of all time who in Edition played with Iron Butterfly cactus and his greatest accomplishment I thought Armageddon who sadly only made one album due to Keith r e l f s passing from electrocution😮 a supergroup who definitely influenced a lot of groups😊
I also have the First 2 Captain Beyond Albums. (In fact, I have the original pressing of the first album with the "3 D Picture on the Cover.) I also have the Armageddon Album, as well, and I still throw them on the turntable, once in awhile, even now!!
dang! few enough people have the 3D CaptB. but to also have THE Armageddon album too! Mine are ALL gone as of 2 years ago. I do wonder how many other people have both those 2 albums as you do and i "did". I "had" all the Captain Beyond albums :/ Do i DARE ask if you have Arthur Brown's - Journey also??? Is there a musician out there that when they heard this album did not absolutely love it. Believe it was recorded at Capricorn Studios in Macon GA. Still have it.
I had never heard of this great group, (surprised, because I was so into music) but I remember the name Bobby Caldwell floating around. Must’ve been when he was drumming with Johnny Winter. I’m gonna look at old vids of Winter, and I see Caldwell in any of them, I’m gonna post on the FB group, “I Rocked Out at the Orlando Sports Stadium in the 60s and 70s” Wall.
SUPERGROUP !!! each and every musician superb and the harmony and expertise shines. !! I have loved this group and its music since my first listen.....I bought and still have the vinyl LP with the 3D image on front. ....followed that up with Sufficiently breathless as soon as it was available.! thank you for the great posted video.
I went to see these guys at Dayton’s Hara Arena for the Sufficiently Breathless tour. Sadly only about 5 or 6 Hundred people showed up. And they played like there were 100,000 people there. Tripping heavily. I guess I was 18 or 19. They were Zeppelin Good. They had a Discrete Quad sound that was cutting edge.
Only better. Cream were overrated big time and I would put Bobby Caldwell up against Ginger Baker any day of the weak. Bobby Caldwell was an absolute beast on drums and I ranked him up with amongst the very best😊
Nah, he wasn't the right kind of singer for Deep Purple or maybe it was the other way around. Anyway, Captain Beyond's two albums with him are better than anything Deep Purple ever did.
Sorry of course it was Lee Dorman not Dorsey. And Mike Pinera played in Iron Butterfly but he also played with Rhino on the first Capt Beyond album. Phil Walden produced it. Pretty good memory for almost 50 years ago. That just shows you how impressive the music of that era was.
Thisg is great. Probably my fave track from "Captain Beyond" an album i bought waaaay back in '72. Never saw any photos of the band, let alone video!!! Mentioned in the latest Guitar Player magazine which is cool. Tab for Dancing....worked on that and This already. Prebends for the short solo section always slayed me. Thank you for posting !!!
Saw Trapeze, Captain Beyond a Wishbone Ash and together. The show lasted forever because the bands didn't want to quit and we sure didn't want them too. Oh yeah, the club only held about 500 people.
The guitarist Rhino also played on Iron butterfly’s “metamorphosis” album which is really good, different than in a gadda da Vida, more bluesy psych rock

A bit James Gang (Funk 49). Tommy would have rocked this as well as the cool player here. Rod is a fine singer, but according to Nick he wanted to be a movie star. He did great as a rock singer, and when you listen to his tone, why didn't Ritchie get him back in 73?
Can't Feel Nothin', Pt.1 As The Moon Speaks (To the Waves of The Sea) Astral Lady As The Moon Speaks (Return) I Can't Feel Nothin', Pt. 2 They just all blend or "bleed" into one another though, so basically it's like one big song made up of many small parts
If this was a band that was supposed to be a cross of Uriah Heep and Deep Purple, than I guess it makes sense to have a bass player who could have been Gary Thain's twin--and Lee Dorman looks a lot like (and plays a lot like) Gary Thain from Heep
The first album is pure genious

Excellent music. Fantastic group.
I was heartbroken when Iron Butterfly broke up and then I heard Captain Beyond. Happy Camper I was.
Still am, and always will be. . . Oh for joy !!!
One of the best 70's groups ever. What a sensational lineup.
they would have been headlining if Allman had lived. No one can sing this folio like Evans. brilliant.

Lee Dorman SMOKED on the bass! R.I.P. brother, from a fellow bass player.
He looks a lot like Gary Thain from Uriah Heep!
I can no more forget Cap Beyond's 1st Album, than I can forget those best acid flashbacks mind-listening to them.
oh ya, ya, ya.
I have been a fan of this band since the 70's
70s rock at its most obvious.... love this album.

Bobby Caldwell was a man on drums! Especially on this song.
As the wind speaks to the Sea
Amazing after all these years to see this being played live by the originals!
NEVER get sick of watching this show.
They're so damn talented !!!
When Rhino kicked into that solo I got a massive rush, and I am totally straight.
Man could sing.
One of the best bands. I love the Mark 1 Deep Purple and this is really an extension of that.
Bobby Caldwell. I always thought his Johnny Winters playing was epic. Little did I know he was just getting warmed up. What monster band.
Absolutely one of the greatest of all time and so underrated😮 he's up there with Carl Palmer Neil Peart Ansley Dunbar and a few others😊
Classic 70's style, too much great music in such a short time.

Bobby Caldwell Just Gets It .
Lee Dorman influenced me to become a bassist when he was with Iron Butterfly. Still have all their original vinyl albums. Soul Experience!

I jumped on a moon beam back in '71 and never got off. Well actually I did get off, but not off the moon beam.
