Can we just have a series of Jay and Adam discussing comics? Show of hands (likes)?
I second that notion, dare I say they should also include manga in that equation (my heart yearns for them to react to Attack on Titan but that'll probably never happen)
i was impressed by how effortlessly they just talked about it for 20 min. straight.
"A 13-year old wrote this!?"
My reaction to every Zack Snyder movie ever.
Fixing this is pretty easy. Ignore the "we need to pick up all the stereotypes" quest and focus on whatever it was the robot was doing.
I just finished Invincible and it hits. I couldnt stop reading.
Transmetropolitan is a great series. Thanks for reminding me to go re read it.
"The Avengers weren't a big thing before the MCU" (paraphrasing) I once tried to explain this to someone who was more into comics than me and he refused to believe me. I think he was too deep in the comic lore to believe me when I said that if you asked the average teenager in 2005 who Iron Man was, they would not have been able to answer you. Such a weird argument. Thank you for validating me like 5 years later. 😂
I just wanted it to be known that I don't watch this video because I want to know anything about Rebel Moon: A Jack Schneider Star Wars Parody, but solely because I like Adam and Jay so much that I'd watch nearly anything they are in, while doing the dishes and folding the laundry.
I see a few basic ways of connecting these characters so that it is a coherent plot. 1) The evil general should have either been the official governor of this moon, OR hiding resources and garrisons on the moon because he was planning to backstab the Emperor. Anything that was a more substantial and specific reason for him to care at all about what happens in this region. 2) The prince working as a slave should have been the previous regent of the moon. "Return of the king" is an actual plot point; rescuing some guy just because, isn't. 3) The drunk general could have been from THIS prince's kingsguard. Either that, or his Big Disgrace should be related to the death of the White Lantern Princess. Who cares about whatever battle he lost if it has nothing to do with the big myth or the specific story? Nemesis is just a Jedi expy, so what she doesn't really matter. She's a ronin. Myeh. Gamora's quest should be specific: to regain the power of THIS moon from THIS imperial officer.
I want you guys' version of Rebel Moon Part 1. It is the movie we deserved.
"We give em the episodes they crave" says Jay smirking, and the first commenter is already bemoaning the lack of Webels. Gotta love those vlisteners! 🤣 You can fix The Scargiver next week, as it's on Netflix April 19th 😉
I wonder if someone has calculated how long the movie is without all the slo-mo. It’s just gratuitous after a certain point. Shirtless dude who can ride animals for no reason. I fell asleep twice watching it. It really doesn’t make much sense WHY they need to recruit these specific people. They don’t bring much to the team as actual useful skills go.
20:30 timestamp When they stop talking about superhero comics and start Rebel Moon
Thanks, now I know when to stop the video! 😂
Thankyou.
Great video as always!
I didn’t even realize that this was a Star Wars-esque movie until now lol. When I first saw this movie I kept thinking “this is space A Bug’s Life, and we’re gonna fight the grasshoppers with circus bugs!” 😂😂
I agree that the beginning was just uncomfortably slow and sexual. Like I was watching it with my dad and I wasn’t sure what direction we were going in lol. We enjoyed the movie though, but we’re very simple people. Now after watching this episode, I’m like oh you’re right nothing happened in this movie.
You was watching it with your dad and you wasn’t sure what direction you were going in?

Jay and Adam, I appreciate the attempt you made to try to fix this movie but let’s be honest, it can’t be fixed and I believe it was designed to be bad. Here’s what I think is happening with the 3 movies. Netflix and Snyder are trying to build another Snyder cut movement. I believe I’ve heard that Snyder was not “happy” with the product Netflix wanted and got them to agree to allow his cut of this story be released. I bet anything it will be better than the Netflix cut. I will tell you that after watching your reaction and this fix, I fully believe that this story should never had been told yet. Snyder had an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of Star Wars, and yes Star Wars was good but it’s not perfect. Snyder could have actually taken time to build this world, give us lore, understand the worlds, the technology and creatures through smaller stories and then hit us with the big cinematic movie. Get us to care about this world and then take it away, and have us “join” the fight to get it back. Essentially give us a new galactic world like Star Wars/Star Trek for this generation.
I’ll end this with a thank you for all your content. The both of you are amazing and I’m having a great time enjoying these shows with you.
This was a two-hour recruitment run and I can't remember a single character's name. Every character gets one scene for themself, then they step back, so we can go to the next Star Wars rip-of...I mean, pastiche world for the next. After that we never see the character act in any meaningful way again. Every two to three scenes it gets intercut with Sofia Boutella narrating parts of her backstory in flashbacks.
Oh yeah, and the guy who plays her father (Kazi from "Hawkeye") is five years younger than Sofia Boutella herself. There is a line where I can suspend my disbelief. They warped-jumped over that with that casting decision.
The sub-space opening looking like a Va’jay-jay, and the ship looking like a Peppis is a move I would expect from Mel Brooks, or in an Austin Powers movie…maybe, Maybe in 2001 a space odyssey…There is a time and place for that kind of on the nose visual design…But it doesn’t justify itself in the movie or the story in any way.
My favorite Comic book run:
Claremont and Byrne XMen..
Frank Miller Daredevil.
I love the comics discussion from Jay and Adam. I’d like to add some of my favorites: Invincible, Saga, TMNT: The Last Ronin and The Last Ronin: Lost Years, The Nice House on the Lake, Paper Girls, The first Ms. Marvel run in 2014, All comic runs of Silk (Cindy Moon) and finally on the DC side (Currently reading now): the comics of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain), Injustice: Gods Among Us, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Side note: I am currently reading The Boys now.
Any other recommendations please share, thank you.
easy fix, you just need to have one original idea... 😒
this is a serving of seven samurai on a bed of star wars with a bit of dune sprinkled over.
Wait, so this started as a Star Wars pitch and he just doubled down on the Star Wars? If they made this it would be another Rogue One (Also Mando did it in an episode). And we remember what happened last time they just remade the plot beats from a previous movie.
Another thing. It would be cool if he just remade movies in this universe. Make this one movie be the remake of A Bug's Life. Then the next part be the remake of another movie while also continuing the story from the previous movie. Just a series of "Guess which movie we remade this time."
Adam, even though the opinion is *widely* held, I still gotta cosign the "Tim is the best Robin" statement.
Also, Jay, what was your comic book store growing up in St. Louis? I'm curious if we might have crossed paths without knowing it.
Agreed on several points.
I definitely agree on the eww factor in this movie. The odd ship & space rift choice was kinda whatever. The horny harvest festival was fine for me, plenty of real-world holidays pre-christianity involved orgies, but her father figure pushing her towards the farmer guy felt kinda icky. Where I really took issue was with the farm girl. I actually paused the video to check. The wiki lists the character's age as 17. So not only was the scene too long & got extra uncomfortable because most of the squad wanted in on it, but the choice was made to have the character be underage. That is just fucked up. The bad guys were already cartoonishly bad. They could have been bullying the villagers in other ways. They could have been stealing food, taken over someone's home, got drunk and beat up an adult man. But instead the writer & director chose this. And then for some reason bad guy has a thing for tentacles, because why the hell not.
I also agree on there being no story, and the fact that clearly the recruiting of the allies was hitting some extra obvious stereotypes, many of which were blatantly racial.
The fact this movie is getting a director's cut release infuriates me. I'm 100% with Jay. If you're putting out a movie, put out the best version so I'm not wasting my time.
I enjoyed this as a popcorn flick in spite of its issues. I can understand why this took the final form that it did, for various reasons (Zack Snyder doesn't make TV shows, he does crazy films)...but to me this should have either been a trilogy or a series, rather than two films. It seems like there is some decent lore behind this that could've benefited from some more time and worldbuilding. A deeper focus on the various side characters could've been interesting and done alot more to pull in the audience, in my opinion.
The boys did a really good job with their fix-pitch, I want to see their film(s) now...
Really appreciate the exhaustion they showed at the beginning. *big sigh* for rebel moon.
can someone explain why the evil father was clearly younger than his daughter
Best comic I've read is The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. It's amazing and has a lovely ending.
I couldn't bother finish watching it. 30 minutes in it just was one of those why waste precious time for this crap moments. There is a reason no one is talking about part two even though it is just around the corner.
Hot take: Zac Snyder is incapable of making a functional standard-length movie, so whenever he can, he holds the movie hostage by releasing a shitty version and then promising a good director's cut.
I think Zack needs a writing partner and an editor that gets pacing. It's possible to do a part one with 3 acts. He's obviously a good cinematographer but his recent stories often feel hollow and way too slow. Also, can someone get him in touch with new good fight choreographers so he doesn't keep going to the well of super slow-mo for EVERY fight scene
The blonde girl will be the emperors daughter.
Anyone who hasnt should check out Saga by Brian k. Vaughan and Fiona staples, one of the best comics I've read in a long time.
Rebels! Where is your next Rebels episode :) let’s go guys!
Stalwart and silent is my middle name
You'll probably want to tell Denis Villeneuve about that 3 act structure thing. No, I'm not saying this is as good as Dune but not all stories are in 3 acts.
Good point, but the thing is Denis Villeneuve is a much better director, so he can make it work
@@vincentdurocher9699 He also doesn't do Director Cuts and even refuses to release Deleted Scenes.
Okay, y'all's console table thing behind you is not centered between the two blue rectangles, and every time I watch the podcast, I want to physically reach through my monitor and - podcast name drop - FIX IT! I am begging you, for the sake of general aesthetics and framing, to mildly rearrange your background.
Otherwise - good episode.
I wanted to like this movie but it was incredibly meh to me and the amount of slow motion in it was painful. I know it’s Snyder and he’s obsessed with slow motion but my goodness it was ALOT.
#HarryConnickJR
Zach Snyder would be a great 2nd unit director. As the Head Honcho he's trash.
This movie is unfixable, it’s in my top 3 worst ever
😢 I can't watch this podcast until I watch Rebel Moon in August when the directors cuts come out. I've been avoiding everything about it just so I can go into the Directors Cut 100% clean.
This wasn't the Director's Cut? If it's on Netflix, it's the DC...
@@jinxie712 the 3hr NC17 directors cuts of both parts come out in august.
The Director's cuts will be better.🙂
I don't think a lot of people realize he only agreed to do the two crappy PG-13 versions so he could release his full, unrated version(Coming this summer). It's supposed be around 6 hours long and hopefully better.
Full transparency
If this movie was rebranded as a Warhammer 40k movie I'd love it
