The trend was, IMHO; started by The Hobbit movies which deliberately left loose ends in the narrative to compel the people to see the Director's cut. My own little crusade was not to see the director's cut at all; not even pirated; and I haven't seen a single director's cut since. I know they lost just a few bucks per movie; but I'd like to think A GOOD DAMN LOT OF US went the same way and didn't give them the few bucks. Our wallets are the ONLY power we have over them, and we should exercise it.
@@codinghusky5196 Considering the Justice League director's cut was 2 extra hours of pointless padding, info dumps, a stupid amount of slow-mo, and sequel baiting for sequels that Snyder knew well ahead of time were not gonna happen, I have no expectation that Rebel Moon would be any better with a director cut.
I love how this movie speedruns almost every mistake that fans pointed out in the sequel trilogy: - remaking A New Hope - nonsense hyper space - no object permanence - galaxy feels tiny - child soldiers who don’t act like it
Watching Rebel Moon takes me back to my first attempts at writing. As a kid, I made all these same worldbuilding and character mistakes and it took a lot of work, as well as good friends, to figure out my work. And it’s safe to say I’ll avoid the flaws of Rebel Moon with my own sci-fi story.
My largest complaint with Snyder is his incessant desire to write AND direct his films. He cannot exposit to save his life. His characters are usually flat, without gratuitous time to flesh them out (which a superior director needs none). I think that what he needs is a Christopher Nolan-type to write the script and beat him over the head with rejections. Reigning in that creativity allowed him to make his best work, as the scripts are given time to actually demonstrate MOST of what is said.
I agree. I think he's much better in a cinematographer role than as a writer or director of actors. Man of Steel is one of his better films because he directed it but it was produced by Nolan and written by David S. Goyer.
In the case of 300, Snyder directed it and also co-wrote it with Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon. At least for that movie specifically, he deserves some of the credit for the writing.
Yeah, I just checked and the most famous scene is directly taken from the Frank Miller Comic. So credit for the entire This is Sparta scene goes directly to Frank Miller.
@@jonahfalcon1970Zack Synder, in my opinion, is a pretty good if not great adapter but blows at original concepts. 300 and Watchmen I really enjoy, but Rebel Moon 1 and 2 suck.
@@gvd72 He's not even good at when he copies something frame by frame. For example, Rorschach is not a badass in the comic. Alan Moore was mocking The Question as written by Steve Ditko, a right-wing libertarian, and depicted Rorschach as a demented conspiracy theorist who was more homeless loon than superhero. But according to ring-wing libertarian Zack Snyder, Rorschach is not QAnon, but Batman.
I'll be honest. The idea of being encouraged to find love and to form a closer bond and motivation in war is a good idea, on paper, not in execution, just on paper.
Yes, there are even examples of that being done in real-world history (ex. The Spartans). However, you can't have the same character say, "I was taught love is weakness" while also saying, "they encouraged us to find a lover."
When Snyder turned in the original script it was around 190 to 200 pages long, which would have made the movie around 3 hours. It was Netflix that told Snyder to expand the script and do two parts instead of just one movie.
I would assume before since he made the pitch pretty soon after Disney bought Lucasfilm. However, The Clone Wars did the whole "Seven Samurai Meets Star Wars" years before Disney bought Lucasfilm.
The fact that ive never heard Zack talk about any of these characters he has been supposedly in love with and working for over a decade in any way betond their physical attributes and the most generic one word description if their role is very telling that there will be no more depth with another hoir of footage. Even he has no clue who these characters are.
Larry Fong Has been his cinematographer the whole time until that Army Of The Dead mess. The thing I like to say, “They aren’t Space Nazis, they are literally Nazi’s IN Space”. I have been saying for a long time that Zack is a visual director that creates a painting in a frame, but what the frames are saying is a total waste of time.
Yeah that's why I'm pretty split on his movies overall. I think he's one of those directors who needs some good writers backing him up so that he doesn't get lost in all of his Snyderisms.
I think the problem with Snyder is that he's not a good writer and storyteller. Also he should have someone stopping him from putting empty pretty pictures and slow motion into everything. Basically, he shouldn't be left to his own devices, because he's not that good. There is a very small set of things he does well, but he's terrible in a long list od things.
Director’s Cut is gonna surprise everyone. It’s going to be 45 minutes shorter. Zack Snyder is gonna speed up a good part of the slow motion sequences into normal speed. And the Snyder Cut legend lives on.
You can see the disappointment on Sophias one-expression face...and she has the sloppiest fighting style ever. These actors must have been desperate for work...
That "awesome fight scene" looked pretty terrible to me; too much cutting, hard to tell what's going on, and some of the cuts crossed the frame in a way that made it even harder to follow. At least it was in a terrible movie?
I feel like another problem this movie has as a space opera is that it doesn't have anything nuanced to say. It has nothing to say about politics or fascist empires that we haven't seen before. It's just trying to one-up what Star Wars did with their fascist empires. It almost has something interesting to say about how fascists try to make you feel like the only way to achieve happiness and a sense of community is to contribute to this massive fascist machine and fight for it, contrasting that against what an actual community looks like and how to achieve real happiness. But it doesn't try to delve into any of that, it doesn't try to make its own story and identity. There is a hint of a good story but it's never taken advantage of. It's just taking the stories that inspired Star Wars and plastering it with Wallmart versions of Warhammer aesthetic.
This movie has some of the most useless slow motion scenes, I have ever seen. And they are not short, they are friggin long. And there is lotsa yelling and shouting. I can only imagine the dialogue writing came up even shorter than the crap they managed to keep in. Oh, and I was thinking more " Battle Beyond The Stars " but 7 Samurai, yeah, makes sense.
I did, though to be fair a lot of my enjoyment stems from the fact that I couldn't stand the theatrical version. I like the characters, the story, and the action of the Snyder Cut even if it is admittedly bloated in its runtime. Definitely get why its not everyone's cup of tea.
Snyder cutting is easy. Just go back to the editing room and insert stuff you've already shot. It's a cheap way to get more audience money without any real work.
Snyder is ok, up his own ass and not a great writer. 300 was amazing, I liked Watchmen, Man of Steel was great for me, BvS was ok, his Justice league was good but waaaayyy too long and had some terrible writing. Too much slow motion, too much bad writing, fantastic visuals. Thats him in a nutshell
Snyder becomes Zoolander when he makes movies. Empty and devoid of logic and no substance and all flash. And all slow mo. 300 and Justice League DC was good though. Blind luck it seems.
Directors using "oh a Director's Cut is coming" to justify bad movies is a bad trend that needs to not happen.
Agreed!

I Saw the directors cut of the justice league. Fast forwarded through most of it and missed nothing. Pretentious as all get out@@codinghusky5196
But how can anyone actually hate any film or a director ? 😂
Kora: I was taught that love was weakness.
Also Kora: At the academy they encouraged us to find a lover.
Me: Okay.
Hadn't even thought about that!🤣🤣🤣
@hubertushostihayuanta8873 You can tell that very little thought was put in to this dialogue
All along, the solution to franchise fatigue was to make a franchise no one would get invested in in the first place. Bravo, Zach.
🤣🤣🤣

It's funny how Zack Snyder fans think they are the superior type of audiences just because they detest Disney and Marvel.
Yeah I've never been a fan of that kind of discourse. I can criticize Disney, Marvel and Snyder equally without it being a competition.

Sounds about right for Netflix...😅
Did he make his pitch before or after the Mandalorian did the same angle?
