Disagree. You don’t need to rip to feel benefit of channel bottoms. Anyone riding a twin fin with channels will immediately notice the extra grip it has. Sort of like having an extra fin but without the drag.
The edge creates friction, which creates aerated water, giving the back of your board more buoyancy, also vectoring the water out from the tail giving more drive.
Channels only work when it’s glassy and you rip. For everyone else it’s an added feature to help your shaper get a new sprinter van.
