Worked a treat, thanks. Using a Samsung Display which has a decent colour range and calibrated but not HDR - this brings out a decent image with HDR enable video content.
Thanks for this. I was wondering why MPC couldn't play HDR even after enabling HDR in Windows Display Settings. With VLC, I have to enable HDR manually, but with MPC, HDR turned on automatically when it detects an HDR source. That is what an HDR display is supposed to do. Now to get Microsoft to incorporate Dolby Vision, because my TV supports that as well. I have an external SSD that I can transfer Dolby Vision content to, and then plug the USB SSD into the USB slot on my TV, play the file, and then Dolby Vision activates!
I got the madVR option and a good HDR supporting monitor, brightness set to 70 and yet every HDR movie is dark as hell, especially in scenes with no or little light. How to counter that?
Doesn't seem to work with Dolby Vision into an MKV container colors look on the negative side, only VLC can decode it correctly for some reason, no luck in MPC-HD. Any clue ? thx
i can't get MPC-HC to play the files in the right color space, madvr or not. it's always flat. the only way i get those files to play in full HDR is in Windows Media Player, the new UWP version available in the Microsoft Store.
if i connect my laptop to a 4k tv by hdmi and i play a 480p/720p movie on vlc player then that movie will get upscaled to 4k so it's shown on the tv and that can ruin the movie and make it look worse than how the movie looks on an 1080p tv if i play 480p/720p movie in mpc which uses madvr then how will the movie look on a 4k tv? will it look nicer and problems that happen when you upscale to 4k will go away?
Now Standard is no longer gives Madvr support, it's Full version you have to go with! But my Question is there is one more advanced one 'Mega'! so can we install it? or Full is enough, as it contains Madvr❓❓

I’m not expert but is it because of chroma samplings like 4:2:2 or 4:4:4. Some tvs dont support 4:4:4 and it is necessary for pcs or something. Check rtings article about “chroma subsampling”
Hello, do you know why when I want to watch a 4k HDR movie rip on my 4k NON HDR screen computer, the image is dark ? It's not possible to watch it with correct colors if i don't have a HDR screen ? When i watch hdr 4k video on youtube, the image is not dark !
Hi Dixi, HDR is supposed to be dark and dim no matter what display you are watching them on, I have owned several high end Oled, Led, LCD TVs, LG, Phillip, Samsung with all of them advertised as the best HDR displays and yet they all couldn't beat the darkish color whenever i was watching 4k HDR contents. True HDR will always try to darken the darkest part and brighten the brightest part of the video thus making the video look dark. There's a total misconception that HDR is supposed to make things pop out in vivid colours. If you want to better enjoy 4k HDR contents its better to use the method displayed on this video using MadVR, it will surely brighten up the video and bring depth to your picture better than what the tv manufacturers can do.
Yeah mkv is fine, and atmos should just play fine in stereo, but if you want to have atmos output to like your own sound setup that might be something you need to mess with your reciever for or whatever you use for audio
I'm a bit confused, I thought that klite codec pack was something that came with VLC media player. Or that you had to have it to make VLC work properly. So now it's a separate media player that you need in order to use Madvr?
