I have to agree with a lot of the comments on here, that circle beards are definitely not out of style. I see an awful lot of people with circle beards and they look great! A little scruff with them is a good look too, but either way, there is nothing wrong with them.

When I was first experimenting with different facial hair styles, I did a weirdly combined longer circle beard with chin straps, and shaved the neckline way too high, so my goatee was super thin. So basically a combination of both #1 and #2 at once. Not doing that again! I'm growing my full beard out long right now.

When I start worrying about what other people do that has no negative impact on my life or anyone else's. I'd better start looking within myself. Love beardbrand and their products. But this comes off as too judgey to me. If beardbrands goal is to become men's cosmo. Then please go ahead and proceed. I will support any style of an individual that brings them joy and happiness.

I think this video is an opinion piece with advice of what to do if you happen to be considering a change from one of these three styles. But, yes, you do have to look past the opinion / listicle / marketing slant. I've had both the circle beard and the short beard but moved to a full beard with handlebar over the past year. Also love Beardbrand's products and support people being themselves.

    • @jamiebackhus900
      @jamiebackhus900 3 года назад +1

@@foxbadger I'm okay with opinions. Opinions obtain to individuals. Although I might not like something personally. I don't decide, determine or dictate what others might enjoy. I keep styles focused on me on what applies and doesn't. I like full beard and mustache. That's for me. A lot of people like and dislike it. That goes for any style. Fumanchues, circle goatees and van dykes look great on a lot of people as well. It's all subjective. Maybe it's just me but people's styles are their personal preference. My perception of this video throws shade on certain styles rather than solely helping individuals trying to fix a style they want to get away from.

    • @ashshaw2552

Absolutely agree. Gregg's chat In this video ain't right. Almost a bit high and mighty..a circle beard did not look good on him, neither did a handle bar mustache but to some folk they could rock it really well.. Greg's always tailored, suited and booted and it matches his bears...wack on some Levi denims and a vintage aerosmith T shirt and he won't pull it off, but someone with that style and a handle bar mustache would..so yaknow

    • @foxbadger

@@jamiebackhus900 You have a totally fair take on the video. I may filter it out, but the judgmental tone is 100% there.

@@foxbadger I don't believe by any means that was the intention. But it comes off that way to me at least. Again that's just my opinion. I honestly believe BB and alliance are trying to help. I don't know any of them personally. But I don't believe they're trying to intentionally bash anyone.

The circle beard is far from out of style, but it is far from profitable for Beardbrand. Little if any product is needed to maintain one. I think they are trying to influence the market with this video.

Chasing trends is how we got stuck with nearly a century of shaving being the expectation for adult men. Do what you like, and theres nothing wrong with a goatee (I refuse to call it by that other name). On the one hand this is one of the most butchered beard types, but a properly grown one looks great. Also many guys can't grow cheek hair.

I used to shave my neck right up to my jaw line and wear a chin strap as my moustache is very thin and had disconnects from my beard, I also had almost no hair in the ”soul patch“ area, and the hair on my neck was extremely sparse... now my neck and the disconnects have filled in properly I'm allowing the beard to grow out and maintaining a much better neck line. thanks for the tips!

Been growing the beard out since February. Its just like yours greg except its all black. I was like you. I never would grow a full beard because I have that same disconnect between all three areas of hair as you do, but its all connected now and after about 3 inches length. It starts to connect after about an inch but now it looks great. My gf was not happy at first when I started growing the neck out but now she loves it cuz I look like a "conquistador" lol. Btw, I started growing the neck part after I already had about an inch of length on the sides and 2 inches on the chin with a full stash. Which made it easier because the neck hairs grow faster so it caught up nicely. The sides of the stash are starting to curl again like when I would grow a van dyke. I'm actually an artist so people really liked that style on me but now that I know I can grow a full thick black beard I'm never shaving again and my gf likes to oil it because of how fluffy and bushy and soft it is. So thanks for the encouragement and advice Greg. I was actually close to giving up until I watched your patchy beard episode were you showed us your patches. It all makes so much sense now. The gaps are there for a reason. Even after the beard grows over the patches, there is still a little valley for the mustache to lay into. Its like God designed it to be that way on purpose

I say whatever people enjoy and prefer. Let them rock what makes them happy. I really don't survey/ judge people on what kind of facial hair style they have. Don't matter to me. I stay in my lane and usually mind my own. If someone rocks a neck beard with a mullet and it makes them happy. Do you. I don't read and base my life on cosmos opinion on what's hot and what's not. As long as I'm kind to people. We're good.

This is interesting because it was my internet search for what I thought was the traditional "goatee" that brought me to Beardbrand. And what's funnier is that what I was looking for turned out not to be called a goatee (which I didn't even know how to spell) but was called the, wait for it..."circle beard". PLUS, when I started reading the first page I came across, a Beardbrand blog post on goatee styles, I started really liking the "scruffy goat", which looks nothing more than a circle beard with some, wait for it...scruff. 😛
I have to agree with Greg. I would never grow the biker stache, and the high (no) neckline just doesn't look right in my opinion. The circle beard? Now that you mention it, it seems to common for me right now. Besides, I'm in love with the beard that's developing in my journey towards my first yeard. Heck, it's going to be really hard to cut it back to anything else after waiting for it for a whole year. 😜
I have to add something. Greg, the vest looks SHARP!!! 🔥🔥🔥

So upset. After a great 4 month beard, I tried to clean it up and trim it some.. I messed up big time. First time cleaning/trimming it yourself is harder than I thought. I decided to just shave it off. Summers here are hot and humid, so I just decided to keep clean shaven until Autumn and start growing it out again. I have a great beard after just a few weeks, but man my long 4 month beard just felt great. Hopefully next time I won't mess up when/if I trim it.

Very good advice sir. A scruffy beard is much better looking than being too trimmed. Your beard looks very good. Turning grey, or salt & pepper, does not diminish your appearance; coloring it does. So, thanks for not doing the Hollywood / D.C thing of trying to look 30. In addition, you have good eyebrows which many men don't have. Your beard also enhances your vest, proper shirt, & your tie. Clothing, even if you think it's out of date, isn't. Looking good, or better than the next fellow, is never going out of date

It's shameful that you are discouraging ANY style of beard. Many men are follicularly challenged and can't grow certain full styles. By saying a goatee is out of style, is going to make guys who can only grow a goatee feel bad and possibly insecure. Also, many men are in professions where they aren't allowed to let their facial hair get long. Only people who feel a need to be "trendy," care about what styles are in or out.
    2. "Goatee" is a perfectly acceptable alternate name for a "vandyke" and most people when referring to this shape will call it a goatee. "Circle Beard" sounds like something an elementary school kid would call it. Same with "horshoe stache," which most people call a fu or fu manchu, not a "biker stache." It's definitely NOT a "handlebar moustache" which you called it at one point. Getting hung up on technically correct names is ridiculous. Most people will say kleenex and xerox copy instead of tissue and photocopy. You even slip up when you talk about it and end up calling it a "goatee!" Scruff doesn't change the shape of a goatee. People in the non-bearding world don't use these terms.

Circle Beard: I think the circle beard looks just fine, there’s nothing wrong with it. However I do agree that it’s nice to switch things up a bit.
Too high necklines: I agree with you 100% here- the neckline should not be that high. Although you should still make sure not to have a neckbeard as that tends to be an unflattering look- opt for something in between, I’d say
Horseshoe Mustache: I think this mustache style looks fine, but I also agree with you that there’s a time and place for it, yes.

I had a circle beard I let go long and then plaited it, so I had a single or triple plait off the chin that ended up down to my solar plexus. Looked pretty cool, actually. I've also had a biker 'stache for a while, that also looked pretty cool - you need the jaw for it though. Not sure on the solo chevron moustache - I can hear my friends now: "Hello, the 80s called and Magnum PI wants his moustache back...". Too mundane for me - my attitude to facial hair is go big or go home.

It's a bit strange. The guy criticizes the horseshoe beard, but his beard kinda asks for it.
Think away the gray beard hairs. What's left?
    The horseshoe beard.
