  • We all know the subject marker, but have you seen it used like this? This is a conversational phrase used by Koreans all the time, but you might not recognize the meaning so easily! Recommended for intermediate to advanced learners.

    I think this sort of video that focuses on natural, conversational language in common use really distinguishes your channel from others. It's useful content even for learners like me who aren't yet at upper intermediate/advanced level because it helps so much with understanding of real-world spoken Korean. I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing and I hope you are able to continue uploading when life allows because I think you do offer something not provided by other Korean language teaching RUclipsrs.

    I’ve only just found your channel and feel I’ve missed out on a lot of good and helpful Korean instruction. I feel you are going through a fifficult period in your life, as a born again Christian, I certainly will pray for you. I don’t know you, yet somehow my heart already is tender and caring toward you and whatever changes you’re going through. As I search for additional videos. I’ll pray the lord reaches out to you and blesses you where you are in life.

    I've encountered this kind of sentence a zillion times and I find them very intuitive to understand. But I think I don't tend to use it myself, so this might serve as a useful reminder for me. Actually I think there's a lot of Korean expressions like that for me where I can understand but they don't come to mind when I actually produce Korean output.
    Thanks for the video, sorry to hear about the data loss and all the best figuring out how you can best sustain yourself. I have no doubt that with your talent you can do whatever you want.

    Your channel not having as many views as other channels isn't indicative of the quality of content; your content is great. I hope that RUclips can continue to be a part of your life, but I understand it takes a lot of time and energy.

    Another fantastic lesson as always! Changing courses in life can be super scary, but ultimately we just have to pursue what fulfills our life purpose, and if that life purpose doesn't happen to be Korean teaching anymore, then so be it, you know? Just as long as whatever opporunities you have in front of you ultimately bring you fulfillment. And that's difficult to pinpoint, but I'm sure your path ahead will be lucrative and prosperous for you and yours in due time. I'm in the middle of changing courses from prospective medical school student to a career in software development, and yeah it's very very extremely scary, so I, to an extent, do know what you're going through. I'm always happy to digest a Korean lesson of yours whenever it pops up in my notification feed, but knowing that you're doing well and ultimately going after true fulfillment in life will bring me more joy than any Korean lesson ever could. 새해 복 많이 받으세요

    this kind of natural interjection, conversation connection or whatever it's called, is really helpful for me. One of my favourite, most helpful (now most tattered and loved) books for transitioning my Spanish learning from "learner" to "speaker" status was a book full of what REAL speaking was like, full of interjections, contractions, filler words, filler expressions etc and this video reminds me of that book

    The funny thing is (😏), Korean sentences structured like this are easier for me to understand intuitively than more classic sentences. Even as a total beginner. I don't have to rearrange the sentence pieces in my head for these. It just lines up with English.
    I wonder if this is a more recent phenomenon in Korean, perhaps an influence of English on the language?

    놀라운게 이렇게 좋은 영상은 조회수가 낮아요. I really enjoyed your content, especially your pronunciation guides and real Korean conversations. You explanations are always very thorough, and I find the sprinkles of linguistics here and there very useful. I can see you put a lot of work into your videos, and I'm sure they helped many Korean learners such as myself. 좋은 영상을 만들어 주셔서 정말 감사합니다.

    Yes! Please I need more examples of native Korean dialoge that textbooks don't cover. Especially colloquial speech which often excludes foreigners from the conversation. Banmal too! I don't wanna be left out of any conversation. BTW apart from Naver and such, might there be some Korean equivalent of Urban Dictionary or anything like that? I'm learning Augst D lyrics and so much is over my head as he keeps using Daegu satoori. HELP! Then J-Hope throws Gwanju talk at me. That's not fair!

    Very interesting, thank you! As a beginner, if I would have translated all these "you know what's ...?" sentence starters to a topic marker instead of a subject marker. After all, you are setting the stage for what you will be talking about in the sentence and isn't that what a topic marker is for, not a subject marker? Is there some subtle difference that makes a subject marker more suitable here?

    • @YourKoreanSaem
      @YourKoreanSaem  2 года назад

      You can check out my video on 은는이가 where I explain specific types of sentences that would use the topic marker! In this case the subject is the emphasis which is why the subject marker is more suitable. :)

    The problem with Korean youtube channels is that there is way too much content for beginners, so having more intermediate / advanced content would be useful :)
