I've had the same reaction to hearing some k-pop songs with english in them- I didn't realize it was english until I looked at the lyrics and then totally got it! Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed it

Yeah I encounter that so often too. I listen to a K song and when I look up the lyrics, I am like "oh that part is in English?" :D

At first listen, I had the same reaction. 😂 I’ve been exclusively studying Hangeul and pronunciation for three months now so I’m not claiming to know much, but my brain can tell when the accent seems “off” when I hear a Native English speaker. When you featured the lyrics, it’s easier to see where he was going and I agree it’s likely romanization. Being a musician, they are better equipped to memorize based on sound because they can hear nuances so I think that’s why he did better than expected considering he knows zero Korean. However, he sung more in the song. He shadowed SUGA’s verse, which I think was both stupid and courageous, so I’m curious to know what you think when you hear it.

Are you talking about the actual track?? Because Chris didn’t shadow suga’s part, that was Suga shadowing his own part.

@@Andrea11177 I am. Are you sure? I will need to relisten because if it is, he sounds an awful lot like Chris.

@@bkdsignature yeah, it even shows him singing that part in the documentary, it’s the part where he stuffs up and starts going “wooooo… wooooo” (if you have watched the doco?)
He sung in a higher octave and they doubled his voice :)

@@bkdsignature and if you give it another listen it doesn’t sound like Chris at all (not meaning for my comment to sound rude, the tone is just completely different). I have also listened to way too much BTS to be able to know exactly whose voice is whose as well 🙈

Takes me back to when I wasn’t learning Korean, I sang Korean songs with romanization and honestly looking back I have no idea how I did that. I probably sounded horrible 😂 Romanization is practically useless! When I see something written in Korean romanized I just get confused and wonder how I used to do it in the first place lol before I started learning Korean ppl said learning Hangul helps you with pronunciation. I didn’t know how then but now I realize the importance

You’re so kind to compliment his effort, but I love your first reaction. 😂🤣 If you just stopped recording and left it at the confused face, I would have been happy because there’s no explanation needed. We all know it wasn’t Korean. It was Indian.
I finished Squid Game in two days. My coworker watched it in a day. My high school students were talking about it too. The world, especially America, is just starting to know Korean movies or dramas probably because of Netflix, but Korean movies and dramas have always been great, and there is no surprise for people who have been watching Korean shows. America is about ten years behind. Korean writers really know human emotions and know how to touch parts of the heart that I never knew existed. Because of Korean shows, American dramas are so lame and cannot be compared to Korean dramas because Korean dramas are just on a different scale. It would be comparing kindergarten student’s work to a college student’s.

As a non-native Korean speaker, it was really nice to see your perspective. Ironically, one of my favorite Chris Martin moments was when James Corden messed up the lyrics to his song and he said "It doesn't matter, that's what music is. You can sing whatever you like."

Would you be so demonstrative to someone in your class who has never uttered a foreign word in their life? He tried. Which I dont see a lot of non Korean artists doing. Thumbs down for me. And don t forget, he's British, you will have an accent merged with the pronunciation.
