Many warlords have tried to reunite the disparate warbands… “Oh… OH! Kharn! Hey man you’re here! W-who invited you?” ~ Last Words of Gargave Easy-Bleeder, circa 1224.M41
I just love the mental image of even the artillery crews being close-combat specialists. Charging, screaming non-stop for miles to get to the front line, when they run out of shells.
What most people don't realize is that Angron is the only primarch who doesn't have even a single friend from whom he came among his Marines. His resentments towards the Emperor are not unfounded. Angron might have felt that because his friends were slaves, they were considered beneath the Emperor to be even considered for saving even though it was well within the Emperor's power to have intervened, and the reason why he doesn't want to form a new bond with his Legion is because he doesn't want to experience the pain of having to loss people that he cared about all over again when their usefulness expires.
I've actually been thinking about that a lot lately. I haven't really been able to convince myself that having them with him would have made much of a difference. Part of my argument for this is that his hatred of the Riders, his hatred for tyrants, would caused resentment against the emperor and I think that would have bled down into his feelings for the legion. If he hated the legion because of their association with the Emperor, he wouldn't want to bond with them anyways. Then the legion might still have installed the nails in an effort to bond with Him. On top of that, the fact that the butcher's nails and the continuous rage and pain make it difficult differentiate between friend and foe and the middle of battle, he might have ended up hurting one of his old comrades and that might do just as much if not more damage mentally then just them dying on Nuceria and being abandoned by the emperor. I feel personally like the only way that Angron could have been saved as if he had not had the butcher's nails installed or if Big E was able to remove them. It might have taken more time for him to fall to chaos, but I think that once the Heresy started and Chaos was revealed that he was doomed to fall.
see I don't think it's fear of loss that holds him from forming bonds as that would have to pass the barrier of hatred first and for that to be passed he would need to allow himself to move on from the sorrow of his first 'family' being lost I'm sure he would have that problem if he could get that far along in the emotional healing process but I don't think he's gotten that far at all. I think he hates his men and anything else too much to get that far, they are the creations, reminders of the man who he pinned his entire life's hate upon. it was in a way the emperor that condemned him to such an awful start in life and then the emperor who took away what small semblance of happiness he managed to scrounge up along the way. he hates himself for not having the strength needed but also for being a creation of the emperor and he hates his men because they are also creations of the emperor and they remind him of his own weakness being unwilling to refuse the nails, this dehumanized them in his eyes because they don't even have the will to try and make choices for themselves, as he see's it TL;DR I think he hates his marines not out of fear but out of just pure hatred, they are reminders of all that he hates including the emperor, slavery and his own weakness, add to that they bend their own wills so much they might as well just be a pack of dolls and this final point removes any chance of redemption for his feelings.... they're not people just tools made by the man he focuses the majority of his hatred upon But I've been wrong before
@@JohanJolos Angron despite his deterioration towards extreme anger because of the butcher's nails was still capable of giving value on honor and clearly was very capable of love otherwise he wouldn't have grieved for the loss of his comrades. He has a great sense of honor and perhaps extreme loyalty had the emperor earned it by saving his friends. The emperor had every right to punish the high riders for what they did to his son but did he brought them to justice to answer for what they did? No. Instead the Emperor concerned himself more on not breaking diplomatic relations towards a very cruel planet like as if it would pose a threat to his vast military power even if it did.
@@jansandman6983 oh I agree I'm just saying in regards to how he treated his warband, the nails seemed almost a test to see if they were worthy of being looked at as his people or if they were just tools made by the emperor, which he despised the concept of, I think lol
