    I retired from AA (Former TWA..went to AA 2001) 2004 and flew on a 777 from Paris (CDG) to JFK on my retirement flight...this baby packs a punch on take off! :)

    I flew on this flight 12 times a year for 2 years, and yes I remember a few times there was a pilot who would full throtle takeoff, but he didnt have to because the runway in LAX is more then enough for this plane, usually it was a nice and slow glide up to the air.

    Love the low pressure vapor cloud that forms as the engine spools up. My only favorite thing about flying out of or into LAX is the scenery on a clear day.

      Trent 892. 0-60mph or 96kmh in under 6 seconds (Light load). 99%+ dispatch rate (cant say same for 787) ceiling FL430 for 43,000ft.

    Wow, just fabulous! Thank you for keeping your camera so still, and for imposing the engine over the background as you did. That contrast of seeing a part of the plane over the receding background is very powerful.
    It demonstrates too how much space is out there. At that speed, you'd think that by the time of the turn, you'd be well past Catalina, but there it was sitting out there.
    Amazing to see Palos Verdes, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo pass under too. Great work!!!

    I love how you can see how powerful the engine is right at takeoff! You can see the moisture in the air being pulled into condensation just inside the intake at 1:46 until the speed of the plane builds...

    I agree. You know it's almost over. I do however love the sound of all 4 engines on a 747 spooling to full power on takeoff when you're right behind the wing. It's one of the most beautiful man-made sounds in the world.

    The 777's engines are so powerful that the air entering the engine is being sucked in at such a high velocity the moister in the air separates. It can happen anywhere that's humid.

And let me tell you the 777 is a dream of an aircraft. Just simply the most beautiful aircraft you would ever want to fly on. I sure hope you get a chance one of these days, because it is a just a mezmerizing aircraft. Good luck to your future experience.

    One more thing, contrary to popular belief, the engiens are louder in front than behind, as noise (sound) travels faster than the airplane. Higher picthed sound in front, drone next to, rumble behind, regardless of aircraft. That said, they are ALL quiet for the most part during flight (my excellent sound pick up aside).

I think you did a great job putting this thing together and I want to say thanks again, I've really enjoyed it.

    Basically that spiral is painted to show ground staff that the engine is operating. If the spiral can be seen, it means the engine is off and you can approach the engine or around the engine.
    If the spiral is moving it means, obviously the engine is running and the faster its moving the more likely you'll be sucked into the engine, then diced into tiny bits.
    Hope that helps! :)

    Hi! I am not a pilot, but I have a keen interest in jet engines, and what you are hearing here, is referred to as the "buzz-saw noise" It happens because of the blade tips on the engine locally breaking the speed of sound, which causes vibration, and that low growling buzz. Some engines are louder than others depending on the age, and model etc, and some planes have better sound supression than others too. You will generally hear this buzz MORE if you are seated at, or in front of the engine :)

  • @BobWeaver112
    @BobWeaver112 13 лет назад

    @bigB6flyer The increase in noise once airborne is an error in our perception. The engine sound is there regardless of angle of attack and airspeed, as the engine is still ingesting the same volume of air. Rather, the decrease in engine exhaust ground noise and wind noise from the gear will make the engine sound louder than it originally was, even though its sound volume has been consistent through the entire takeoff run.

  • @BobWeaver112
    @BobWeaver112 13 лет назад

    @spacemanufo That noise is the sound that comes from the tips of the engines' fan blades breaking the sound barrier. An aircraft doesn't retract flaps for 8 minutes straight.

    Thank you! As I replied to others (which I seldom do)"...My camera has great sound pick up (better than the video quality, that is for sure). I dont know if you have actually flown on a 777, but the engines are almost dead silent during flight. Due to their massive size, they lazily rotate during flight producing thrust at a very low RPM - as opposed to smaller or a 4 engine aircraft. Granted that has changed now with the 748 and A380 having larger engines that what used to be."

    Glad you enjoyed my video and the sounds. In case you didnt know, the 777 is a Boeing plane, made in America, not Europe. Anyone will tell you the best planes are made in the USA and that has always been the case and always will be. There is no debate to this, sorry. As for engines, that is a different story and debatable.
    If it aint a Boeing, I aint going....

  • @BobWeaver112
    @BobWeaver112 13 лет назад

    @onecunningfox You've got the flight times mixed up here, in fact. LAX-LHR historically hovers right around the 10:00 mark, while LHR-LAX tends to stay around 10:30-11:00. Eastbound flights will almost always be shorter due to prevailing winds aloft. Cathay consistently makes the run to HKG at around 14:45-15:15.

  • @onecunningfox
    @onecunningfox  13 лет назад

    @slav3dog It all depends on where the winds are coming from. At Los Angeles (LAX) the preveailing winds come from the ocean (as is the case with almost any airport by the sea). Planes almost always takeoff into the wind (to put it simply). Once in a while at LAX planes takeoff in an easterly direction and land in an eatserly direction when the winds justify it.

    The sonic boom at 1:44 makes me shiver, I remember when I first flew on the 777, and heard that, the shear magnitude and strength to which it pins you to the back of your seat like nothing else, lets you know, leave your prayers with god, because your butt belongs to me, what a feeling, what a rush.

  • @onecunningfox
    @onecunningfox  14 лет назад

    Thanks for watching. You most likely will not be in a 777 (as you are from the USA). Unless you fly from Miami on AA or Atlanta on Delta.
    Dont be nervous, it is safer than driving to LA. Just be early, be nice and dont put your feet on the seats, listen to the announcements and dont throw trash on the floor. As for when you can remove your seatbelt - on average, 20-30 minutes after takeoff. Buy soda or drink to take on board - it may be a few before you get one.
    Godspeed.

    Very nicely done. I sit in business class quite a bit on the media shuttle-JFK/LAX and back on AAL on one of their 15 767-200s-what's interesting is that if you sit aft of the engines as you would most likely do in coach, the sound of the engine is much more pleasant for whatever reason you don't hear the compressor buzzing like you do when you sit fore of them. As you can clearly hear in your video the compressor buzz overpowers the whine/wail of the engines after the initial spool up.

  • @jakeyb17
    @jakeyb17 13 лет назад

    @xXxmidgexXx Its the engines, the blades are moving faster that the speed of sound and due to some very complicated physics it creates that compressor-like sound, you notice it more after takeoff because of the different angle at which the air is entering the engine

  • @onecunningfox
    @onecunningfox  12 лет назад

    Close but not quite. AA still has a 3-Class config. I was in the last row of First Class (my favorite row) in 4J. If you read the bio of the video you can see this. The best part is that ion AA, you can eat your meal facing straight forward, diagonal or perpendicular - that is to say a table comes out of teh window (so to speak) and you can eat facing the view. In my case on this flight, the view was the stars and moonlit clouds over Chicago and Canada - and 3 windows to myself to boot!

    They are also there so that the ground crew can report the engine is turning to the flight crew, as the pressure readout which tells the crew that the engine is turning; relates to the internal turbines only which start turning before the outside turbine does, If the flight crew doesn't hear that the engine is turning and then are given a negative when queried, assumption is the engine is a failed start.
    Plus a straight line would remain a line if the turbine starts spinning, hence the spiral.

  • @onecunningfox
    @onecunningfox  14 лет назад

    @cmarcallen
    I am no physicist, but I DO KNOW that the buzzsaw sound is that of the engine blades breaking the sound barrier as they go around. That is how massive and powerful these Trents and of course the GE90-115b's are. So, since they are breaking the sound barrier, perhaps the sound is propelled forward (as the plane is travelling lower than the speed of sound) and not backwards...??? I dont know for certain, but that is probably about right.

    It is a stage in the takeoff whereby power is reduced. If you pat CLOSE attention, listen to the stages during the turn and climb where the sound gets less and less as the "rpm" are lowered finally reaching 10,000 feet upon completion of our turn.
