If you are new to comics, newly returning to comics, or are a long-term collector, there is something here for you. My channel is a mixture of comic book hauls, CGC unboxings, and practical advice that is designed to make us ALL smarter about comic book collecting.
➡️ I don’t tell you what to think but I do give you a few things to think about. We look at the grail comics, “hidden gems” that might in a long box at the local comic shop and must-haves for any comic fan’s collection. We also tap into the larger knowledge base of the comic book community during frequent live streams were we interview collectors that have been in the hobby for a few months to a few decades.
There are very few places on the internet (or elsewhere) where tons of quality comic book information is gathered in one place.

Up until now I've basically only collected raw comics, but I've been thinking a lot lately about slabs, especially as pure investment items.
Triple R is good advice, however what makes it better is a Person you can Trust. Reg you're the GOAT.
I started investing as a teenager in 1985 on all silver and Bronze Age keys. Investing today is a whole new ball game, it is way different and more challenging. Good luck to everyone out there. Great video and content as usual. thumbs up!!
I started with a top 100 rank lists on who everyone else likes and started buying the 9.8 1st appearances of those that I could afford. Realized I loved the Marvel cosmic space stuff, Thanos, Silver Surfer, Beta Ray etc. Those have always worked out for me. Low census 1st apps are the only legitimate long term choice. Forget collecting variants unless they are 1st apps.

Great advice Regie, especially the triple R's. Respect is major one I know some people just want to make a buck in investments but if you know your stuff and Respect what your investing in you'll go far.

I'm only a 3 year-old collector (yes, since the pandemic) and I'm after books for investment. I managed to stay away from the MCU hype and have been buying DC slabs, namely Neal Adams keys, as well as older Batman issues. First Ivy, first Ra's, and I Just landed #227 in a 7.0. Slabs all the way for me. Thanks for the vids Regie! Stay classy

You are welcome bud. Setting up collectible insurance is super simple. The company that I reference is one that I have used for years. I also believe that both CGC and CBCS use them.
Totally agree with getting the insurance. We don't tend to think about it much but once we have been collecting for some time your collection will go up in value as you collect. Its a great idea to make those extra investments to protect your collection.

Insurance is vital with all the fires, flood, etc.
Got a quick question: can a book ever go from a non-key to a key? Does it happen often? How easily can it happen? I focus my collection mostly on issues from December, 1991 and back, just to kind of give you an idea on the era(s) I am talking about. Oh, and I’ve only been seriously collecting since May of this year, 2023.😄
Yes, it can happen but generally a key is a key. A key is a book that includes something significant like a first appearance, death, team up, cover appearances, etc.
Now with that said, a non-key can become a key as a result of a retcon where a current writer re-writes history. This happened with Web of Spider-Man 18.
It can happen when something insignificant suddenly has meaning as a result of a new story line involving an unimportant character.
An unimportant key can increase in value as the result of a movie or tv show.
The first two examples are sorta rare, the last happens a lot more often.
A lot of the "investable" are mainly 1st appearance books. My question is what is your take on first solo series of characters and origin stories of characters. Do those have legs? Thank you
Both have potential but it depends upon the character. Look at the first solo stories for Rocket Raccoon versus Wolverine. I would not invest in Rocket but I would purchase the Wolverine limited series. Great cover and creators behind it and Wolverine is arguably one of the more popular character around and has been for decades.

You asked about investing. Spec and investing aren’t exactly the same thing. I look at it like a spectrum…one one end you have investment and the other end you have spec. Spec is about timing because more than likely the value will not be sustained over the long term like an investment. Speculating on a hot character will be risky due to timing and the number of variants…which do you buy? Can it be done? Sure. With that said, look at the value of the first appearance..it has dropped from $200 to $95 in recent days. How much value will the solo have if the first appearance is less than $100?
