It's one of my favorites, and I've never changed anything from when I bought it ten years ago. That drum just has a certain something that none of my other drums do. I just hope it never breaks - I'm not sure where you go for parts on a hundred year-old Wilson Bros. drum!
To simply show the collection - this is great. But to demonstrate how drum tech has changed , not so much , so much muffling and EQ meant we didn’t really get the raw and natural sound of each drum..
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can give me
Found this from the feature on you in the New York Times yesterday. Super impressive! Kudos on all your hard work. And that's a very nice snare collection you've got there.
I kinda don't like those drums TBH, I just prefer the Slingerland 9x15" Radio King cause it's probably the only one on this list that has that sound I'm looking for.
LOOKIN DOWN THE BARREL OF A GUN SONOFAGUN SONOFABITCH GETTIN PAID GETTIN RICH. This is a masterclass in distinct grooves and distinct 'drum sounds" as they apply to the snare. LUV IT!
Wow, fantastic video! Really impressive how many different sounds you get, and very useful to see the tuning and muffling options you've chosen. Thanks!
The drums you hear in this video were mixed by Tomás Shannon (www.tomasshannon.com), who is now in Europe. I have zillions of drum mixing, gear and production videos with my production partner Cooper Anderson at my website Creating the Sound (www.creatingthesound.com). Let me know what you think!
Hello! I'm trying to find the Snare Drum recorded in "If you're too shy "- The 1975. It´s for a personal project... can some expert help me with this one?
We (my son and I) just became your 1,000th subscriber! We enjoyed hearing all the different sounds of the drums...that was some wonderful music nerdom :) We came over after reading the article about you in the NYT this evening...best of luck finding your white whale!
I had the same wilson. It was stolen. Miss it very much. But now i came across a ludwig black beauty inspiration model of the same size. After some research it seems its the same as a black beauty delux model just without the engravings. And 8 lugs vs the wilson's 6 lugs. I love the lugwig but i miss that wilson with the maple inside. Nice job on the video
Dylan, do you have trouble with the snares on the Premier Royal Ace popping off when you hit the drum too hard? I've had one for years and had that problem and I'm wondering how to solve it
For my taste, the 1920's leedys and the '90's Tamas are amazing. The Gretch Name Band and Ludwig pioneer are also amazing. More things to wish I had...
Ha! Not exactly, although that album, along with "Low End Theory" and "Three Feet High and Rising", were and continue to be extremely influential in how I think about and create drum breaks.
ffs, its not meant to be a true comparison. He's demonstrating what each drum can do, not make them compete against each other. He brought out a different personality in each drum, which is the point of having a snare collection.
These can’t have the original snares. Ive have my grandfathers 1940s radio king1 ply maple since I was a kid. It’s always sounded like a sneeze. Even worse when it had its natural calf skin heads🤣
Definitely not. This particular drum has had a LOT of renovations over the decades. It can sound great in the right context, really crappy in the wrong one - NOT an all-purpose drum by any stretch of the imagination! As much as I love the idea and history of the Radio King snare drum, I've found that you really need to spend some time with one before committing to it - there can be some real lemons out there! I hope that you always keep your grandfather's drum though. What a great thing to still have in the family!
Realmente todas. Son muy buenas pero no dan nada que desear por que las afinaciones son manipuladas, seria mejor que todas fueran afinadas de manera standard para hacer comparación a excepción de las eléctricas que no tienen nada que ver gracias
Honestly, they were made to sound different - these are the drums I use for my session work, and just as every song is completely different, so is every drum, miking arrangement, and mix! We'll have some stuff coming out soon on my website Getting the Sound (www.gettingthesound.com) that very specifically has carefully-controlled shootouts on various elements of drums and recording. Thanks for watching!
What was the point of this ???........certainly not to showcase how each drum sounds. By using all the processing tools, equalization and mastering button / effects, muffling, zero rings, wallet, down tuned heads, gated verb, echo etc, this did NOT give the listener any indication what those snares really sound like.
These are all drums that I use in my studio sessions, and each is tuned and treated in very different ways depending on what the track calls for. This is very definitely NOT a scientific shootout - more like an artistic shootout. Hope that helps!
0:41 that wilson bros 4x14 has the dopest hip hop sound 10/10 thanks for sharing your amazing collection!!
It's one of my favorites, and I've never changed anything from when I bought it ten years ago. That drum just has a certain something that none of my other drums do. I just hope it never breaks - I'm not sure where you go for parts on a hundred year-old Wilson Bros. drum!
@@DylanWissing you own a stunning one century snare!
@@DylanWissing 15 is my favorite drum out of all of them since it has that cool unique sound I'm looking for.
@@DylanWissing Where did you buy it? Can you get them at Sam Ash?
yea, James Brown came to my mind.
Nice collection!
Thanks! Collected over many years.
I don't know who could dislike this. Excellent video and superb chops
I see the Dakings pumping!
Fantastic video! I'm loving all the classic grooves you played here Dylan! You collection sounds great!
Thanks, Johnathan! It was fun to do, although a LOT of work. Snare drums rule!
I love this video
To simply show the collection - this is great. But to demonstrate how drum tech has changed , not so much , so much muffling and EQ meant we didn’t really get the raw and natural sound of each drum..
I loved the different mix approaches. It's not a "which snare should you buy" video.
I wish I could buy snare drum Number 15 since it sounds like what I'm looking for
@@Leotardoification Exactly!

This one of my fave videos on youtube no doubt! Thanks!
WOW!! Please.. Leedy 5X14" Multi-Model & The Slingerland 5.5X14" Radio King :) Completely in love with these snares!! Thanks for this great video..
I kinda don't like those drums TBH, I just prefer the Slingerland 9x15" Radio King cause it's probably the only one on this list that has that sound I'm looking for.
Amazing!
Great video! Thanks for all the time and work that went into it.
Awesome! Thanks for posting this!

Danny Cesena from Last Bongo In Belgium - the incredible bongo band. I spotted that one too 😉
0:41 sounds like Cypres hill
2:54 Tama Powerline hammered brass Great man!#
4:26 My favourite GMS revolution brass
Ooh, I liked the Leedy 5 x 14 Multi-Model! Also the Premier 4 x 14 Royal Ace.
Wow, fantastic video! Really impressive how many different sounds you get, and very useful to see the tuning and muffling options you've chosen. Thanks!
0:44 Wilson snare beat reminds me of Sublime “What I Got” song.
Premier 14x4 Royal Ace... The definition of sound FUNK... 😉😍
Holy smoke.. What a awesome video!!!!!
I think number 4 is probably the biggest drum out of everything on this list
15 and 44 are my favorite ones cause they have that cool unique sound that I'm looking for, mostly 15.
love the snares and awesome playing!!!!
Thanks! It was fun to do. Which one is your favorite?
@@DylanWissing it is not possibile to have only one :D But i don't see a Supraphonic here, such a classic badboy, how come ?
@@DylanWissing What was that drunk you were playing at number 36? Not the Latin Percussion 6" Micro-Snare, but the other one.
Awesome!
Those breakbeats are fantastic! Ear candy 🔥🥁
PLEASE make hours of tutorials for me how to mix snares and drums in general like you did!

#31 Thought you could sneak When the Levee Breaks without us knowing ;) Great use of the delay though
I noticed that
And he kinda sneaked another part of When the Levee Breaks in #15
Best snare video out period!😊🙌🏽👍👍👍
Thanks, Paul! Which one was your favorite?
:17, 2:34, 4:40 are my favorites
0:26 really really cool beat
3:39 damn that rim shot on ludwig black beauty... I felt it in my soul
Thanks! Some tasty licks as well!

amazing ! selling some of them?
Not at the moment!
Love that Black beauty and Royal Ace
do you have a flat rec of each?

Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’?
Thank you for sharing this video.Ive never owned a GMS snare b4. Seems they have built some real nice ones.!!!
SLINGERLAND Radio King 14x 8” WOW 👍🏿. Number 12..
I like number 15
#44, #48 and #50 for me!
2:59 When the Levee breaks
Ludwig 4x14" Pioneer (constructed 1920s) and Wilson Bros. 4x14" Brass/Wood (constructed 1920s) look the same
That 5.5 x 14 radio king sounds the best
3:00 This is for playing a Helloween song
the one at the end of GMS has a great sound :)
That 8x14 Radio King, tho....1:02
best snare around
Sounds insane!
I rather have the Slingerland 9x15" Radio King. The sound I'm looking for.
I think the drums sound better with an O ring muffler. Maybe that's why I wanted 9x15
Hey Brian, I second that emotion. All the snares were nice. But the 8×14 ... eargasm.
Super vintage 4:48 😌
Man, You have amazing taste. For drums and for grooves too! You made my day.
3:44 makes me wanna start something!
I see what you did there!
So, this basically every snare and corresponding beat that got sampled on the Paul's Boutique record?
Ha! Not exactly, although that album, along with "Low End Theory" and "Three Feet High and Rising", were and continue to be extremely influential in how I think about and create drum breaks.
where is Supra LM 402 ? :)
No black beauty or lm402???
I suppose you could have them here but, sadly, that would cost the price of 48 other drums...
everybodys heard them before.
#25 that Tama is sick
3:07 is that a chain on the head?
It`s the Gretsch Brookland for me.
4:30 Yeah
1:17 Yee
Kool .
woah
always width x depth,
a standard garage door 16x7
not 7x16
No Ludwig Supraphonic or Acrolite?!
3:50
No ROGERS???😞
I WISH I had one of everything!
I gotta get myself a Slingerland 9x15" Radio King
That 12×15 is chunkyyyy
👌🏻
Shouldn’t have any muffling on any snares, for a true comparison.
The Slingerland Radio Kings sounded the best.
ffs, its not meant to be a true comparison. He's demonstrating what each drum can do, not make them compete against each other. He brought out a different personality in each drum, which is the point of having a snare collection.
15 mostly
1. 44
2. 22
3. 35
😉
Excellent choices!
I agree with 1 and 2
HOOOOLY crap. Goddamn. Subbed. Hell yeah.
man, that leedy multi model is the cats ass ..
Royal Ace => Actual Proof :))

@@DylanWissing I wanna get a Slingerland 9x15” Radio King, 1940s. Mahogany/poplar shell, eight lugs someday, where did you get the snare drums from?

TBH, most of the drums kinda sound like crap, but 1:17 is my favorite sounding drum
this is HOT!!!!!!!
Falto una Roger's dinasonics la mejor
the first snare i ever had was a ajax snare ? any one heard of it ?? might of been 1940's
1:11 The only time he used those sticks. BTW, this is the 69th comment
... at least put the mics at the same settings.. each sample sounds completely different ...

Multi micing in such a stuffy room. Some of the clips sound so phasey.
lesson here: most old snares sound crap. Except Slingerland.
Number 15 is the sound that I'm looking for
Hard to compare. Muffled audio in some. Too much treble in others. I with it was recorded with the same equipment for a true shootout.
Nice video but not not right for comparison
せめてチューニング揃えてやらないと意味がないような
styles of playing does not fit to the years

Bad snares. Did not like.
