Perhaps had more to do with the tuning, but the Ludwig COB, the Dunnett maple, the Ludwig/N&C tulipwood, and Hendrix canary wood all stood out. And, surprised to admit it, that DW Super Solid still turns heads a bit.
I love the way that the BDC portsmouth snare sounds on the room mics! Really sits nicely in the mix, especially compared to usual Drumsw in room mics. Very impressed
Man - I just got to the Ludwig 'Super Ludwig' snare - beautiful. I had a Ludwig 14x5 Black Beauty supersensitive snare drum - i LOVED that drum! It was great for live and recording work - in all different genres. But it got nicked (stolen)! And that was it! I could never afford it again. Well, at least I can enjoy listening to THIS snare drum!
@@justhadrums - thanks! I haven't the money even for those lower figures but should I ever, I will bear this in mind. There were a lot of memories wrapped up in that drum and the whole set and cymbals. Part of me was lost and it came very soon after my mother passed on. I was able to buy a beautiful Sonor kit with money my mother left me and I have a pretty good Tama snare. :) The Ludwig snare was from 1977. I like to think a deserving drummer got it in the end.
Yamaha recording Birch, woody, fat, crack. Sonor SQ2 Heavy Beech wow. Gretsch solid steel so much projection and tone. A&F Bell Brass rich and fat. The winner of course the Sonor DCP 14x8, just amazing!!! Best tone for the price get the Tama JT.
I saw most of them last Saturday when I came down. I was torn between the Merlin and the Maverick but ended up with the Mav and I love it. Great video as usual!
Tama, Ludwig, Sonor Gretsch are always great snares. Oh, we even have snares in Zelkova! And the big winner was a snare that looks like a Ton by its size ... but I preferred the sound of position # 2 between the two! I'd leave position #1 out of the top 10! Amazing vídeo!!! Thanks!!!! 👍✌👏👏👏
Until now my favourite snare was my Ludwig Black Magic that I use on my Sonor SQ2 kit. But now I'm coveting that Sonor DCP monster cast brass (bronze?) number. And with only 10 made I guess I'll have to keep coveting. Great video as usual guys, thanks, and all the best for Christmas and the new year.
killer drums without a doubt, I think you chose the drums well! What Ive noticed is that all of your playing has improved a lot, too! Especially Shane got a lot cleaner chops now, congratulations on that man. Seems to have been a successful year in many respects!
The very best snare of all time for me is the pork pie little squealer absolutely beautiful crack and your sticks have an incredible rebound off the skin whether you're giving it a rimshot striking it on the side or in the center whatever you do it sounds amazing!
What cymbals did they use?? Because I love the sound of the Meinl ride and I want to know what model it is. What cymbal did they use in the Hendrix Super Exotic Canary??
I know you guys did a shootout between an entry-level Tama Imperialstar and the Ludwig...uhh...Evolution? I was wondering if you could do a similar shootout of the top five or so beginner/intermediate drum kits for us working drummers? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely drool over the "drum porn/high-priced" reviews but I don't have the money for 98% of them. I would like to know your thoughts on Pearl Roadshow, Decade Maple, Yamaha Rydeen, etc.
Honestly they all sounded great! If I was picking as a primary snare that I felt would work on gigs no matter the style of music I'd pick the Noble & Cooley on the wood side and the Ludwig COB on the metal side. If money were no object I would have purchased one of the anniversary Sonor snares to occasionally play but more to just stare at in amazement.
The JT Tama sounds killer at that full mix there...the best one....that fully bodied and thick rimshot sound seems easier to get on the JT than sonor cast bronze or any other of this comparisson. Nice video !!
That Noble & Cooley sounded awesome!! The Tama Bell brass sounds great to but I'm a Aluminium shell fan. VK snare drums sound awesome too. I own a 1968 Ludwig 400 and a Ludwig Maple classic 14 x 6.5.
I've lusted after a Sonor 8" bronze snare since I was a kid... the dream is very much still alive. One day. If you do a 20th anniversary one, I'm calling dibs now! ;)

It seems there's something for just about everyone at DCP and I look forward to making my first visit from upstate New York in the spring with my new wife."
My favorite is a one-off I built myself based on a 14" TAMA tom I cut down to 7 inches deep with loving care in a jig I fabricated for that single purpose. Cut the bearing edge by hand, waited 6 months for the hardware I ordered from Japan, did the math, converted a 12 lug to a 16, surgically drilled the holes, filled the overlap, and massaged it to perfection. It's made of poplar and ashwood and matches the original metallic blue of the rest of my staggered seven piece Imperial Star kit. It goes off like a shot gun and is the only one in the world. I love it like my own child. 🤓 💙
After 40 years of playing many snare drums I came down to 2.. a Ludwig LM400 5×14 and Ludwig Hammered Bronze 6 1/2x14..no other snares have had their musicality and projection.
Hey guys love the video! I was wondering what head you have on the Noble & Cooley Horizon 14x6. The raw tone of that one is AMAZING, just wondering how it would sound with a calf head in a slightly lower tuning. Anyway, this video definitely gave me some new gear to pine for 😂. Cheers!
I can’t decide on an order for my top 3 however kinda like the Rogers dyna sonic, 14 x 6.5 , Gretchen USA solid steel 14x 6.5 and Ludwig Super Chrome over brass 14 x 6.5 no particular order it would depend on what I was playing. My go to is my Pearl 14 x 6.5 brass free flower from the 80’s I will never part with it. In saying this the more I keep watching the harder it gets to decide 🤷🏻♂️🇦🇺
I thought that DW Super Solid pretty much wiped its ass with the higher rated snare drums. But then again I like very sharp, low reverb, with a nice crack... some people like bassy sounding snares. Not my thing at all. As a side note, I lived in Portsmouth, NH for over 2 years and never knew this shop existed!

"It going to be an even better year in 2020." Oh 2019 Shane, if you only knew.
Well maybe not.....
Yep, 2020 is the one of the worst years off all time 😂
The little DW "14x 5.5" was so sweet. And the Longo, right after that! Delicious.
yeah, all the rest were 6.5 to 8 boomers
I am so glad that you guys included what the drums sound like without a mix so we could here the true sound of the drum. Really helpful 👍
The Dunnett was amazing. The Ludwig COB was superb as well.
joe pomeroy I second this. My two favorite
love that Dunnett
I think yamaha rc is the best sounding, I love those videos !! by far best drum compare videos on the internet !
Hendrix is a company to watch. Their drums are verrrrry nice.
that yamaha recording cust kills and so does that super ludwig (supraphonic) love those snares
When it comes to drum gear review, Drum Center of Portsmouth seemed to be the best channel on youtube.
Thanks so much!
Perhaps had more to do with the tuning, but the Ludwig COB, the Dunnett maple, the Ludwig/N&C tulipwood, and Hendrix canary wood all stood out. And, surprised to admit it, that DW Super Solid still turns heads a bit.
Congratulations to your company , saw u few years ago when u first started your bizz and now looks like u are successful!
Great job mr Shane .
Happy holidays, guys! thanks for all the content!

Sonor Cast Bronze 14x8....Way to rock it Shane !
Really diggin these deeper wood snares
Rogers Dyna-sonic for me!!! Love it. And... great job with this video: thanks!!!
That IS aaaaaamazing! But the price is really stupid. If you have a disposable income, go for it. Me? I'm buying a snare drum for under $300.00.
Thanks for watching, Antonio!
Same here mate. My perfect snare sound!!
I was going to put a snarky comment, about how they all sound the same!! But that Rogers really blew me away!! My perfect snare sound!!

That Ludwig/Noble & Cooley Snare is absolutely gorgeous and has the sound to match.
Definitely my favorite.
I still LOVE the good old cob Supra!!!
my favorite is the merlin. it sound very full and powerful and does not cost a ton of money. british drum co is killing it with their snare drums.
I saw most of them last Saturday when I came down. I was torn between the Merlin and the Maverick but ended up with the Mav and I love it. Great video as usual!
I love your guys' sense of humor just as much as these awesome snares 😅😄
I don't know what Canopus does to their bass drums but they stand out for me among the rest being used for your vídeos.
I'd really like to see your top ten drum keys of 2019, I just cant decide myself.
i can't tell you how hard i laughed at this. thanks, man.
Ludwig COB was the best one in the video to me.
Thanks for the video guys, Merry Christmas!
Some really great snares here but the 3 that stood out to me are the 1) DW Super Solid, 2) Tama J. Tempesta, and 3) Rogers Dynasonic
Tama, Ludwig, Sonor Gretsch are always great snares. Oh, we even have snares in Zelkova! And the big winner was a snare that looks like a Ton by its size ... but I preferred the sound of position # 2 between the two!

That Hendrix is the perfect snare
In no particular order
Favorites:
DW Super Solid
Dunnett
Tama Recording Custom
Rogers
All these snares were magnificent though
Oh! That meaty, instant crack of those Sonors. Those bronze models sounds heavenly! Sonor should make them a part of the SQ2 line up.
The Rogers had a unique punch. The Dunnett was super crisp and dry. Both Ludwigs were bright, bold and cutting. IMHO.
#11 the Ludwig Chrome over Brass. Sharp sound of the 70's
Just got a Keplinger BI for Christmas from you guys, hope it comes soon! Very excited to play it
Super Ludwig brass, Tama and Dunnett
Man, the redhead dude is awesome.
A whole lot of great drums there.
My favorites are the Ludwig/NC, the Gretsch solid steel and the A&F bell brass.
You have a beautiful drum shop. I have bought some paiste cymbals in the past from you. Hopefully I can visit your store one day thank you for videos.
We look forward to your visit! Thanks for the support.

Very similar to the last one in video
They're all great.
Dunnet sounds awesome also. Best christmas gift if ever.
The Gretsch Solid Steel, Keplinger and the Ludwig/N&C were especially amazing
Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Gucci, Prada, Valentino, Armani, Fendi, more. Which is my favorite? Tough Pick. Hendix and the Ludwig/ N&C

As a matter of interest, what’s YOUR personal favourite ?
LUDWIG COB for mine. 👍🏿 Number 11.
Not gonna lie but I like the NC/Ludwig joint Tulip snare over all and any of these.
Made 20 miles from my front door

Yes!
Love that bass drum
In all your vast knowledge of snare drum sound.....please give some thoughts on the Trick Buddy Rich snare.
The 6/12"x14" Ludwig Crome over Brass .Gotta get one NOW !
I agree with Don
Ludwig COB 100% Perfect.
I liked the Ludwig chrome on brass snare drum. Did you have all the snare drums with the batter head to make an even comparison?
All the snare drums have their stock batter head, as they would be if you bought them.
Cheers!

Ludwig! Numero Uno!
Hendrix sounds great
That is one beautiful kit..what’s the colour called.
Loved the LUDWIG COB the best...classic killer snare.
I personally thought the Rogers at 18 sounded the best
My favorite....#15 Longo solid cherry.....
Tama, Ludwig, and Gretsch.
ludwig kills em all others as usual
have you tried the new Ludwig standard maple series yet?...awesome drums
