CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kitai (Jaden Smith) confronts Cypher (Will Smith) about the loss of his sister. Then, he jumps over the edge of a cliff in an effort to prove himself.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Father-and-son space travelers crash-land on a desolate planet Earth 1000 years in the future, and fight to find a way back home in this sci-fi action thriller from director M. Night Shyamalan. It's been nearly a millennium since mankind was forced to flee their home planet for the safety of Nova Prime, and in that time Earth has grown increasingly hostile to human life. Gen. Cypher Raige (Will Smith) has just finished an extended tour of duty when he reunites with his 13-year-old son Kitai (Jaden Smith), and begins making the transition from military leader to father. When an asteroid storm damages their ship, however, a badly injured Cypher and his son are forced to crash-land on Earth. Now, the only way for young Kitai to save his father's life is to find the rescue beacon that was lost when their ship came plummeting through the atmosphere. In order to survive and succeed, Kitai will have to become the type of soldier who would make his father proud. Zo Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo co-star.

Visually it is decent, but once you start looking at the lazy plot (full of plot holes), dull character arcs and sloppy editing... I mean, how did a guy as socially awkward as this movie presents him, ever establish contact with a beautiful woman, let alone a relationship? So basically every Adam Sandler movie ever! Also, in a world where we have interstellar travel and foldable ipads, we can't create an injection that inhibits the release of fear chemicals that lead to the pheromones the Ursa can smell, at least, you know, like until we kill them all? And that's just the beginning.
The concept was there, the acting just wasn’t the best. It was an okay film, not utterly bad though

I just enjoyed his performance and found it captivating, myself. it's my opinion and I just thought I'd invite others to give it another chance. sure he won't ever win a grammy, let alone perform like this again, but I enjoyed it. I'm bias but I liked it.

No, I love it. It was really good
I recently watched this movie. I had heard how monumentally bad it was and wanted to see for myself. I actually didn't mind it. I mean Jaden Smith has NONE of the elegance and charm of his father as an actor, and the movie came off as a bit kitschy and predictable to me, but I appreciated what it was TRYING to say. The impression I got was that it had very little to do with the crisis we see....them being stranded on Earth and young Jaden having to retrieve the beacon to save them....in truth, the entire movie was a metaphor for both father and son coming to terms with the daughter's death at the hands of the alien and young Jaden learning to become a man. At the beginning, he wasn't ready to become a Ranger because he was living in his father's shadow. When he is lost on Earth, he initially relies on his father's voice to guide and comfort him, but there comes a point where he stops listening to his father and starts listening to his own heart....and it is in this moment that he becomes a man and wins his father's respect.

I really liked this movie, I don't know why so many people didn't like it. But I wish they had kept this scene the way it was in the trailer--instead of saying "you are not a ranger, and I am giving YOU that order" he says "you are not a ranger, you are my son". What they didn’t show was that the ship calculated the mission was still able to be completed. Except that he had to jump off the cliff in order to do so, which would expose him to predators and high winds. It showed that despite having no fear, Cipher still loved his son, and didn’t want him to risk his life.

I really don't understand why people disliked his acting? From such a young age, he's been able to act very well and he can show his emotions really well on screen. People didn't give him the chance, because he was young and a son of a legend. Jaden is a legend in his own way, and I guess he's shown it by his musical career. But I still think there's acting potential there.

If you watch every single movie with expectations of perfection then you will most likely not enjoy the movie. This was an entertaining movie with good action scenes and a good message in the end
From what I’ve seen, the main criticism of this movie was the good awful universe building which I got to say is one of the worst I’ve seen. Heck Avatar (James Cameron movie) which was already not great made more sense than this.
I fall as sleep watching this. Not many movies managed to achieve that. Less than 5.

@@florians9949 there’s a good reason for that. It’s to help audiences connect emotionally with the Navi and those characters. It’s why they are relatively humanoid and share some human customs and emotions. If they were completely alien with 7 legs and a culture vastly different from our own, we wouldn’t connect with the characters

I am a movie fanatic. The critics are wrong on this movie. Jaden smith and will smith did an amazing job portraying the characters of this movie. Name an other actors who could have did a better job portraying these characters for this flick. I cannot think of any. Maybe denzel Washington in his prime cant think of any teenagers who could of played the roll.
