The 4090 was 60-80% better than the 3090 and only 7% more expensive. The 5090 is 25-40% Better but is 25% more expensive. So of course people would find it underwhelming.
Don't forget the higher power draw, when you factor that into the equation, it is even more of a disappointment. And yes, frame by frame it is more efficient compared to the 4090 (and god knows, compared to the 7900XTX) but still. The fact, that it will not sell for the MSRP anytime soon, makes it even worse.
What's wild to me is how CES caused a massive jump in market price for the 40 series. 4090 is going between $3-4k, and last night 4080 Super was between $1800-2000.
Im the average gamer and i own a xbox series x. The rtx 5090 is for people with $10000 P.Cs in their command center. Under lock and key. Gaming doesn't have to be for millionaires only.
I am a gamer of higher income and I rock a $1000 graphics card and $1000 monitor. Wealth is relative and someone could easily make twice as much money as me and have stuff that is twice as nice. I do agree that game requirements should be low, so more people can enjoy the games, which means more sales, and ultimately, better looking games anyway.
I fondly remember being a PC gamer back in the 00's, and spending thousand euros every year on new hardware lol. I'm pure console these days, and that thousand goes into games.
Companies that make the consoles and PC gaming components appear to have forgotten something: producing games to best use their 'new top of the line' technology will be a detriment to the gaming industry. Game studios led by corporate minded leadership will be more inclined to release more and more unoptimized video games... There should be someone trying to guide the industry toward better products, but this just seems like a step in the wrong direction: guiding the industry toward producing games that are reliant on upscaling technology. We can only hope game studios will take the right steps...
The comparison with the monitor is not good. OLED is simply better for most gamers than a normal LCD and the price difference or the max amount you'll have to pay is not that high in 2025. The 5090 is ~40% better than the 4090, an OLED is like 200% better than an LCD
People don't it. You can basically use it as a heat source as well. No need for a radiator anymore so the costs balance out. Nvidia are branching into different markets.
you most be a real fool to buy a 5090.. that much money for just 20-30~ fps more over a 4090 and still not the ability to max everything and play at 60 without fakery.. hilarious.
It’s underwhelming I agree but I managed to discuss with a physicist working for ASML. They build the machines that TSCM and intel use to do the lithography on their chips (basically printing the transistors) and they are reaching the maximum limit of how small they can go hardware wise. The only way for further gains in the near future is software. And trust me I hate that as much as you do. Rasterized performance > AI fake frames
@@thosewhoslaytogetherstayto3412 I mean NVIDIA is making the same mistakes that Intel did before AMD swooped in and took a huge chunk of the market of CPUs. AMD did it before, they can do it again.
As a product, I think that this is aimed at the whales, ppl who have ALOT of extra money. This isn't for regular people, its for ppl who have way too much money and time. I think lukes right, if it doesn't double your performance, then this shouldn't even remotely be an option.
@@zrpggamer it's a luxury product, has nothing to do with whales. Buying a graphics card for 2.5k is not even close to what people spent on other luxury items, and as long as you are not going into debt for it and not hurting your financial situation, there is no problem with buying any luxury item.
Horrible value when they are charging you for every bit of that performance uptick. Then you look at the ridiculous power draw and it's just a bad product. This clearly wasnt designed for gaming. AIB boards will be well over 2000.
For all the people saying 4090ti, you either cant afford the card... or hiding the fact you still want it and cant wait to get it. Im tired of some of yall trying to front in these comment sections. Despite the shortages the 50series will still have a lot of buyers

30% improvement is the difference between a 4080 and 4090 lol

If owning a 4090 taught me anything, it's that it doesn't matter how top of the range your graphics card is if your screen tops out at 1080p and 60FPS
