I'm just not going to buy any game that's made with AI. I have a HUGE backlog of current and retro games. That's not saying AI is completely useless. It can be useful for assistance with repetitive tasks. Like say, placing trees on a landscape. (Although a software solution for that has existed for decades - Speedtree.) AI CAN be another tool in the toolbox for artists to use in certain situations where it's appropriate. But it can't "make games".
If they’re using AI in a smart manner, and it helps reduce the time, cost and crunch of development, and if the devs themselves and even concept artists are allowed to utilize these tools to streamline their process, that does NOT make it soulless. Human beings work like AI. We take a bunch of data in, we learn from and get inspired by things other people do and create original works that pull from inspiration from experience from materials we’ve learned from. If a creative concept artist sits down with an AI tool and prompts it for a few ideas, and they use that as a basis, it’s not the AI that just magically spit something out, you have to PROMPT it to do so. So the AI is also at the mercy of how creative the input prompt is. Again, everyone is totally entitled to their own opinions. I view AI as a tool, and in terms of game development, I believe it can be a HUGE benefit to production times, cost of development, and crunch issues. Gamers will get games quicker, profits will hopefully be higher, and people have a new suite of tools to work with. Like they did when the camera was invented, or when people started typing on text documents instead of writing with ink.
You know what they could do to save and do resident evil justice??? In the beginning they went with A symmetrical horror because of the limitations on power. Imagine if they took that same approach and applied today??? They would have so much power left overhead the game could literally look like a real life movie. That's how we get good resident evil live action.
Does your fridge have a soul? No, it is just an object. Do you, who selected it and placed it in your kitchen to match the overall style, have a soul? Yes. The fridge is made by the AI, the kitchen is designed by the artist. AI can already create the model and the textures of the fridge a tedious and time consuming process for a human, that costs a lot of money and time.. Haven't we been talking about the rising cost of video games recently? AI frees up the artist to put more effort it the actual layout of the kitchen and the narrative context, thus improving the overall quality of the game. Ideally. Isn't that what we all want? Better games? The soul always comes from the context, not the asset. I am using AI for years now in my field of VFX for TV and Film and I can assure you it expands possibilities significantly. I can do things much quicker in many areas. But none of them have to do with the actual narration. But it expands the narrative possibilities because things become suddenly affordable that were too expensive before. The soul of anything always comes from the person creating it. You can make a completely soulless game with completely handcrafted assets. Or you can create something amazing, inspiring and soulful by using AI created assets and AI assistance because you have so much more time and budget to focus on the important things.... And as always: The potential problems with any tech come from the humans (souls) who use or abuse it.
As an artist I don't like this, but I'm not surprised... we all knew this was coming, an in some parts of the industry (mainly mobile" it's extremely common
I doubt it'll take off to be honest. My studio hired AI Prompters alongside normal artists for the concept phase of production and while the artists kinda just got on with their work the prompters couldn't get past the next step. They were all let go and the studio just sticks to normal artists. As a tool AI is useful but not as a replacement. It'll only be a problem for certain markets like as you mention the mobile sector since it's mainly shovelware but for studios who put in effect I doubt AI prompting is useful and that's where most artists want to work anyway. I still chuckle how the prompters couldn't fill a basic request 😭
If the devs get let go as revenge they should feed the Ai Concord concept art as a goodbye present
Artists too expensive for these companies now ? Aren't they overworked and underpaid to begin with

Isn’t Cocaine Cola technically still Coca Cola?
The OG recipe had cocaine.
Biggest sign of a company being creatively bankrupt. Generative ai generating a different combo of shit you have seen before.

We got headless ashley before gta 6
The more AI, the more bland games will be. And boy! Are AAA games already bland enough?!

If games are using obvious genai, why would I buy a game that does something that was already done? GenAI, cannot create only copy.
they say this and the game will still cost 70 euros. greedy companies that underpay their employees.
Using Grok for an AI example? Lmao 😂 No wonder he thinks AI is shit

just sad
Tech never stops get used to it
i will NOT support AI in gaming. most people will refuse to buy AI games i think even if its good
If it helps then why not but the game still needs to feel like it has a soul to it. Whole AI games are gonna be bad for sure
get used to it, every game will use ai from now on. And im not saying i like ai
