Yaa you can use LAYLENGTH command but first you need to give layers to your drawing.

What if you need to trace a object with a parameter. For example i need to trace a picture and on the bottom of the picture it says 5 inches.

You can draw a 5 in line, align the the bottom of the picture to 5 in line then your drawing will be 5 in in length. After that you can simply trace it like this tutorial
