AutoCAD - Import Raster Image & Scale for Tracing (AUTOCAD 2012)

How to reference a raster image and then scale it to be 1:1. This allows you to trace over the image and recreate the raster image as an AutoCAD dwg.
The image used in this example is of MVRDV's Plot 12 House in Borneo Sporenburg.
AutoCAD 2012 was used here.

You can just reference the scale line and type 5000 it's quicker that way

How would you do this if you didn't have a scale bar but only a scale ratio on the image?

that would be more difficult. Hopefully there is at least some measured dimension on the drawing you could use instead. Otherwise if you know the page size (A2, A3. archD etc.) then you could start with making the image the size of the paper it should be, then scaling it based on the ratio. Last resort, might be to try to find something relatively standard in the drawing like door width or wall thickness to use as a starting point but you're accuracy will probably be pretty low.

When someone mention raster he or she usually mean on "image" made of pixels.More pixels better resolution. jpeg,pdf,geotiff are just some of formats used for raster image
