Is ESPN Ruining College Football? | College Football Playoff

- In this episode, Couz talks about the rhetoric coming from analysts at ESPN regarding the round one College Football Playoff results. After the Indiana Hoosiers and SMU Mustangs suffered lopsided losses at the hands of Notre Dame and Penn State respectively, folks like Paul Finebaum and Kirk Herbstreit made controversial remarks regarding the CFP Committee's decision to put Indiana and SMU in the field. Moreover, Finebaum showed his SEC bias in defense of Tennessee's blowout loss to Ohio State. Couz will react to all of these comments and talk about past CFP games that were blowouts and tell whether or not there is indeed ESPN bias. #collegefootball #cfp #collegefootballplayoff

Great observation Couz.
Thanks!
Penn St fan here. I am a 100% with Couz here. It's a disgrace what ESPN and its running mouths have done to this sport. The expanded playoffs were made for teams like Indiana and SMU. The SEC bias is so sickening. I am so glad that the OSU beat the shit out of Tennessee to expose that SEC really isn't elite this year. Gtech blew that game or else they had Georgia on the ropes in Athens. We put too much weight on the pre season rankings which favours SEC and then just harp on about SoS. We should just stop paying attention to Finebum and KH. They're a disgrace to the sport and elitist AF.
That's why I am glad the B1G negotiated their superior TV deal with Fox, CBS, and NBC and also voted, with their Alliance, against ESPN monopolizing the new expanded playoff system. That's why the Alliance was a complete success, due to accomplishing the single goal they intended to.
Actually most SEC fans can’t stand Finebaum or Herbstreit. They’re jokes by most of the rank and file here. But it’s good that y’all outsiders are learning. Merry Christmas.
Bottom line I hope the SEC and Big 10 pull out. We wasted hours of our lives watching bs teams get destroyed. Bottom line the SEC is the best. I played football and understand it.
Indiana is a fraud just like SMU and Boise
I will say it. They were crap
It is time for the rest of college football to launch a anti trust suit against espn and maybe even the sec to stop the damage from going any further.
ESPN and the SEC is the definition for a conflict of interest. I know most years they have the deepest conference but not to the extent they claim
Your Podcast is fire 🔥.
Totally agree 💯
Thank you
Truer words never spoken. Blowouts were there every year in the playoff.
They aren’t going to stop yapping until the sec has all, but a few slots. They should just break away. It is insulting to say wins shouldn’t matter. Isn’t that the point of sports? To score points, and the team with the most, wins. Ridiculous.
ESPN and Sankey are panicking because the SEC is no longer the big kid on the block, like they used to be. Everyone else is catching up to them and the B1G is passing them by.
Delusional but it’s what we expect from those that are chasing the standard. You can’t make an argument without trying to disparage the SEC first. Classic. Hahaha. Try a post without making it about the SEC. Hahaha. You can’t and haven’t. It’s your MO. At least you’re consistent. Merry Christmas.
They're not panicking. They are working a deal with B1G. And both conferences are going to use this CFP as ammunition to demand more autobids for 2026.
100 percent agreement. Espn also ruined the Heisman, too much influence on the game.
I just found your channel and like your takes. You got a new subscriber.
Appreciate the support!
Boise State fan here. Thanks for talking about this Couz! I’m new here and appreciate you using your platform to talk about the obvious bias in college football. With ESPN owning the rights to the CFP and also the SEC network you can see the obvious bias against the rest of the college football world. If Oregon or Ohio State lose at all before the National Title watch the talking heads turn on them too. I remember back in the day when Boise State had their historic run, Kirk Herbstriet was all for the little man and even came to Boise, Idaho to talk about how good they were in game day but now that he’s got his fingers dipped into the ESPN money pie his entire tune has changed . Paul Finebuam has disgusting takes on everything college football too . Let’s not forget that these two are being paid by ESPN and the SEC network (whom own the rights to the CFP) to tell you, the viewer, that the 12 team playoff is pointless because 6 teams are Championship contenders. These folks believe that only the SEC or schools worth a crap load of money should be championship contenders. These guys are SEC/ESPN/CFP plants getting their pockets lined to tell you a bunch of bullshit. They have no objective analysis of the sport of college football. They have a dog in this fight because of the contracts they have signed.. There have been so many instances in the history of college football, where an unranked underdog has won against a top 5 national championship contending team. In the past that would have eliminated a team from national championship contention. Hence the 12 team playoff. More room for competition. This isn’t the SEC invitational. Pageantry, school history and Logos aside the game of football is won on the field and records matter. If your team doesn’t get in this year, better luck next year! 😅🤣
You make some great points here, I completely agree.
COUZ, this is one of the best shows I've ever seen you put on thank you very much for calling these two out it's about damn time somebody did. Steal your fan let's go Big 12 will we be better next year.
@@timothygreen7708 thanks brother.
I like this.
It’s funny that Kirk says wins and losses shouldn’t matter, yet spends the entire season traveling around to country to all the “big games”. Why should anyone watch Gameday, or the ESPN game of the week?
On any given year there are only at most 5-6 teams capable of winning a natty. This expanded playoff is to make more $ and include more fan bases. Indiana deserved to get in, but they are not even close to having the talent to compete against most of the teams that made it in. They may of had a chance against SMU, Boise or maybe Arizona St. That's it. They're basically a group of 5 team that played the worst teams in the Big10 this year. Looking at their schedule & team makeup tells you everything you need to know. Still deserved to get in.
Yes, and I love it! The playoffs were not expanded, so that we can see the fifth or sixth place SEC teams get in. I love seeing the new teams.
Absolutely correct. We should have never went more than 8 playoff spots to be honest. If you want in, don't lose to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Arkansas etc. 😂
People like Paul Finebaum are definitely ruining College Football. I no longer listen to him. Nice show Couz.
I can’t stand those guys at ESPN like Herbstreit.. If they could they would make the cfb playoffs only for Blue Blood programs every single year. Makes me sick. Greed is destroying this sport. I would absolutely love for Boise State and Arizona State to make it to the National Championship to shut them all up
Amen
I absolutely agree. And they may get their way and effectively change the format to effectively eliminate all non SEC Big 10 teams from having any playoff hopes. Thereby ruining college football because if 100 schools no that they have no chance of being in the playoffs, their fans will lose interest. Interest is at an all time high now because so Many teams & fans know that with 12 teams in playoffs almost every team has a chance if they have a great season
@@Teller580the B1G doesn't cry like the SEC. Plus they actually play 9 conference games. The SEC was very inconsistent this year, because they don't have the depth that they used to. NIL is leveling the playing field.
@@Al-Rudigorsec should play 9 conference games and stop scheduling local highschool teams late in the year. They schedule this way and it allows their teams to be fully healed by bowl season while everyone else is banged up. Plus ESPN props them up year round to keep their ranking up and that's what elevates their SoS. SEC would not want a format like the NFL because within five seasons the SEC will not win like they think they will.
@bryanswift6157 that last cupcake win, for the whole conference is huge! Especially late in the year. Meanwhile, half of the B1G teams get an extra loss, from playing each other.
Just remember that what is good for the SEC is good for ESPN. They have a 10 year exclusive broadcast contract and ESPN pays the SEC $300 million a year. And what do you know, ESPN owns the SEC network. The more big games and high ranked teams the SEC has, the better it is for ESPN. Anyone who says ESPN isn’t openly biased towards the SEC is either a fan of the SEC or is not paying attention. It’s so obvious now it’s ridiculous.
In my opinion nobody has explained the issues with college football more than this gentleman. It’s truly as if Kiffin, Finebaum, and ESPN want to “create” epic playoff games as if it’s the College Football Entertainment (WWE). Thank you so much for your articulation.
In regards to the bias of ESPN, yes they have SEC bias as well as most media. If you look at the preseason rankings and how the SEC stays in the top 25 no matter what loses they have proves it.
I just looked at the preseason poll. It's hilarious how many SEC teams were in the top 15.
Bingo
Totally agree 👍💯. SEC wants to crown the champion before any game is played.
As a Michigan fan c1980 I hope Michigan would say NO to a Exclusive SEC/BiG/ESPN tournament….True Leaders Respect ALL… Michigan has been defeated by Toledo/Appalachian State..
@@murkrow2316 thank you for that comment.
As a Buckeye fan since I was born in Columbus, I agree with you. It's complete BS what they're trying to do. They want to make it as easy as possible for the SEC to win the natty every year.
Wins and losses don’t matter when it comes to the SEC
They start talking playoff bids at the beginning of the season and it drives me crazy
If a high-ranked non SEC team loses early in the season, the talk is, “They probably won’t make the playoffs with that loss.”
I still find it ludicrous that they even considered Alabama to make the cut this year for the playoffs
If I were one voting on the field of 12, a blowout loss to an unranked team that late in the season that gives you your 3rd loss is a disqualifying factor (unless by some crazy miracle, everyone else ranked has 2 losses)
It’s all about how much money can be generated with just the SEC and Big 10 at the end of the day
All about money
You are right unfortunately
If the entire conference went 6-6, they would say it just proves the conference is stacked top to bottom. If Bama went 0-12, they would say that they lost close games in the "best conference" and deserve to be in the playoff.
ESPN owns the sec network, so of course they want the sec in everything
The SEC and the media guys from ESPN have been downplaying my Ducks all year long. Who cares if we barely beat OSU. We won. We are proud to be part of the BIG 10 and are thankful as fans to have had a successful year regardless of what ESPN says. My buddy is a Buckeye fan and we're Big Ten bros now. Win or lose it's good football.
It was nip and tuck and it was in Eugene. It's kind of relevant.
What happened to Florida State last year was the biggest tragedy in college football. Herbstreit had always said you control your own destiny but that excluded FSU. I lose respect for him then
ESPN crew keep talking those hypotheticals about which team deserves to be in the CFP. It’s sickening and I hope ESPN quit college football broadcasting.
ESPN went with a conference that was serious about good football. Big10 at the time only promoted two teams. For whatever reason, the Big10 has decided that owning the big media markets while bringing in other decent teams is more profitable. With NIL and portal, CFB dominance will shift north and west with ESPN stuck in the southeast.
Blowouts in playoffs happen in all levels of football.
1993 NFC Divisional Playoff: San Francisco 49ers Def. New York Giants 44-3
2000 NFC Championship Game: New York Giants Def. Minnesota Vikings 41-0
2002 AFC Wild Card New York Jets Def. Indianapolis Colts 41-0
2024 NFC divisional Play off Philadelphia Eagles Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32-9
IE Its football not a beauty contest..... if you want a beauty contest take your team to a Salon. Win or shut up.
It happens in every sport too. Look at the extremely popular NCAA basketball tournament. Do we want to squeeze it down to only eight teams too?
Exactly
I want the playoff committee to tell ESPN and the bias SEC talking heads to Cramb it! The good news is ESPN is getting less and less influential because people are "cutting the cord" meaning their cutting away from ESPN.
One thing you're not giving the SEC credit for is their undefeated record in hypothetical games. Because I keep hearing how Bama would beat this team and Ole Miss would beat that team and Vandy would win those conferences.
@@snerdterguson haha!
They say that, like it's actually a valid argument.
Kirk Herbstreit said that Boise State did not belong in the Fiesta Bowl when they went 11-0 in the WAC, and felt like they were frauds. Look what Boise State did? Beat Oklahoma and made Kirk eat crow. They are doing it again this year, and they will never learn. Boise will play hard to win at all cost in these types of games. Beating Penn State would make the nay-sayers eat crow. We need both Texas and Georgia to lose to completely knock the SEC out.
@@Spitfirethedragon I won $5,000 on that game when I took Boise St with no points
I'm an ASU fan & I'm concerned but I will say that all this talk & trashing ASU & Boise will give those players extra motivation to play harder than ever. I'm not confident they'll win but I am confident that they'll have extra motivation that Texas & Penn State won't have. Let's hope they win. The future of College football may depend on it
Good luck 👍
Kirk is the fraud. How he is considered an expert boggles the mind. Remember when he said that Clemson was going to destroy West Virginia in the Orange Bowl? This fool doesn't know more about college football than my teenage granddaughter.
Beating Oklahoma in a bowl game doesn't mean anything. Remember Georgia and Hawaii.
I do not want to watch 3 loss SEC teams in the playoffs.
UNTIL ITS YOUR TEAM WITH THREE LOSSES
No, my team has six and has been mediocre for years
They’ve been rigging games for years. Replay booth officials changed rulings on the field to benefit SEC or ACC teams. ESPNs investments. None of the reversals ever made and sense. The late 2000’s is when I walked away from their Bias.
I'm with you about the sec an it's sickening. But the screwed fsu last year
If it wasn’t for Texas, just joining the SEC, they will only have one team in it right now. And that’s Georgia. Kirk and Paul need to find somewhere to sit down.
The SEC apologists will take any side of an argument to prove their point, often using contradicting opinions in the same argument. I think the only way to fix this, is for the SEC to play 6 conference games and 6 FCS teams. That will allow the SEC to play 9 home games. 🙄
"Apologist" implies there's something to defend. The SEC has dominated college football for decades now. Does "SEC bias" force the NFL to draft more players from the SEC than any other conference every year? We have recruiting metrics. We have draft metrics. It's objectively true that the SEC has the highest concentration of talent every single year. Are there teams outside that conference that are good? Of course. But this idea that it's just "apologists" keeping the SEC afloat is ridiculous.
Nope, put the metrics and guidelines in writing for the actual selection of the College Playoff teams. Most SEC fans are fine with three loss teams sitting on the couch watching the playoffs. Finebaum nor Kirk are the voice of the SEC, regardless of what you’re being told.
@roywall8169 the term "SEC apologist" implies a sort misnomer on part of the recipient. But does it really apply?
Truth be told, the SEC has absolutely dominated in national championships. They've won 14 national championships in the last 20 years. That's a 70% chance of winning it. And we're excluding other southern schools that have won it but somehow are in the ACC (Clemson).
I like the computers deciding the best teams. Like last years. We are trying to figure out the national Champions.
The whole mistake is that college football has turned into entertainment masquerading as a sport. The playoff system was based on a flawed objective..."determination of the best college football team". No legitimate sport uses that as a premise. The goal of a sports championship game is to crown a champion...and gang, the statistically the best team, the most talented team, doesn't always win. The reason ESPN does have a bias for blue bloods, is because they want ratings...they are turning college football into a reality show, not an honest competition to crown a champion.
ESPN has ruined college sports. It is not Kirk Herbstreit, but the bias in programming, focusing their specials mostly on SEC schools, poor broadcasting, over-coverage / overexposure, over analyzing woth worthless statistics and instant reactions, coddling court jester coaches, and hyper-criticizing teams.
Nitwit master of the obvious Herb bloviating.....shut up and let me watch the game.
Kirk and Paul have said it, ESPIN has said it. They want only SEC and BIG 10 in the playoffs. There's just too much money to be made.
They already put the entire SEC in the top 25 every preseason to help the SOS of the top 2 or 3 teams. If they had their way, the playoffs would just be an SEC tourney. Its sickening. We Clemson fans have been pointing this out for decades.
They most certainly have. And it’s getting worse every day.
Ignoring Finebaum and Herbstreit is pretty easy. "Just do it."
This guy is right 👍
We need to get congress to regulate NIL and remove ESPN from controlling the votes for the playoffs. Winning has to matter, the American way, work hard and reap your reward
I agree 100% Unfortunately the American way is changing to lie, cheat, insult, hate and double down
" I want it to be subjective" "Wins should not matter." "We need to take power rankings to generate the SoS rankings."
Apalling comments from Herbs. As someone from Ohio, I am embarrassed that he is from the same state. Clearly he has sold his soul ESPN and will say anything the tell him to.
Yes is the schedules are unequal, but a big part of that is because the B1G and SEC and grabbing up most of the good team and brand and keeping lesser "brands" out. It's a cartel.
If you have comissioner who get involved in scheduling then the schedule strengths wont be so imbalanced, but there is not any effort from the conf towards schedule strenght equality and that is not SMU's or Boise's fault.
If you dont reward 11 win seasons, then what the hell is the whole thing about? Just cancel the season, go by the talent rankings from 247 and put texas oregon alabama and georgia or osu in a "playoff" that begins in september and tell the other 130 schools to drop football.
ESPN has destroyed college football. FYI Paul "HOT TAKE" Finbaum went to Tennessee.
Thanks for that info about Paul.
It is alright if Finebaum and Herbstreit seek to ruin college football. All we have to do as the Big 12 and ACC is simply place all SEC and Big 10 basketball champions in the NIT when it comes to basketball. Case closed!
The old SEC dominance is coming to an end and ESPN knows this. Everyone can pay their players, which is why Saban retired. Herbie and Pawl are told what to say or they wouldn't work for the beast. The conference realignment is probably the dumbest and worst thing to happen to college football. The traditional conferences should remain in tact, and the leagues should be capped at 12 teams requiring 9 conference games. With the expanded playoff i think this would ensure the best teams get in and earn their spot.
All this complaining. Best way to stop it is No more Committees, No more Rankings, No more G-5( they form their own playoffs).
Power 4 Conferences play a 12 game conference schedule. Top 8 teams from each conference go to a playoff to determine Conference Championship. The 4 Conference Champs play for the National Championship. Competitive games every Saturday, TV Networks get good viewing results, Conferences have playoff games within the Conference so travel is less for the fans. No more complaining about strength of schedule ( no cupcake games ), no complaints about how many teams each conference should get in, Teams play their way in! I hope Conference Commissioners see this and take it under consideration.
Thanks
You’re welcome.
It’s all about the money and who spends the most,And let’s face it the big ten spends more than anybody
Everyone already knows that Paul finebaum is nothing but an SEC freak he thinks there ought to be nothing but SEC and Big ten teams in the playoffs mainly SEC though. I think he's a joke
They only accept the B1G because they don't have the power to challenge them yet. They still put them down when they can.
100% SEC plays 8 conference games while others play 9…SEC plays Group of 5 last game of regular schedule while NO other conference schedules cupcakes so late…but SEC is called the best??
I agree with this podcast. It's funny to see a crack in the relationship between the B1G and SEC. ESPN has an ultimate plan to have only 2 power conferences. They have already concentrated all the best teams and money into 2 conferences. They want to reduce college football to the same number of teams as the NFL because in the past they made all the TV contracts too rich for all the teams and they were losing money on college football as a whole. This is an attempt by them to make more money on college football. But they should be sued by the Big 12 and ACC and should be investigated by the SEC.
The Big Ten is not in ESPN's plan. I think the opposite. ESPN goes against FOX every football week. FOX goes mainly with the Big Ten and the Big 12 games.
The SEC and ESPN only include the B1G because they have no choice. If they could, they would get rid of them too. Trust me, most B1G fans love to see the SMUs and Boise States get in. I hope our commissioner doesn't go against his fans.
I think Disney, who owns ESPN, is the true puppetmaster.
They ruin everything they touch.
Their once-great parks and entertainment are abysmal.
Look at what they have done to Star Wars.
I hope Arizona State does not get blown out. That will give them more ammunition to just have Big 10 and SEC in the playoffs.
Wins and loses weighted by strength of schedule is what he's talking about.
Sec is undefeated all time in hypothetical matchups
Its what we love about college football. I love seeing schools like SMU and Boise get their shot. Would Ole Miss or South Carolina given PSU a better game? Possibly, then that night Tennessee got completely rolled. Their math doesnt add up.
There's an obvios bias Check out last year and the SEC czmpaign to get Alabama in. They then ran into Michigan. They can't win right? They did, at the Roze Bowl. Finebaum silent. Then Michigan beat Washington, neither in the SEC. And lost 18 starters to the NFL which is why they're only average this year
Well, that and losing their best two coaches. Harbaugh and Stallions.
Great commentary. I hope Georgia and Texas don’t play for the championship. If so the AD’s better figure out a way to work these playoffs.
UK guy here, the SEC was terrible this year, I will stick up for them any other year but Vols got beat by better team.
SEC is 57-10 in interconference play this year. They have a winning record against every other conference.
If wins and losses shouldn’t matter, then dump the system and go back to the old way
I wish ESPN would get rid of all the ass kissers at ESPN but I guess that means everybody would be fired
I agree completely Couz. I've been listening to a ton of sports talk shows and podcasts since the weekend and I'm so sick of hearing the terms best vs most deserving. If Bama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina were the best teams, then they would be the most deserving as well. These media pundits will sit there and say SMU and Indiana were more deserving but weren't the best. I'd almost have more respect for them if they'd just come right out and said what they really mean, that they don't believe they deserved to be in.
They say that they know Bama.would have done better, but those same people also KNEW that Bama would beat Vandy and Oklahoma.
CJ commits to Ohio State. Huge pick up and a huge loss to WVU
I turned off College Football on ESPN.
It's already ruined. You can't have 2 conferences that have 75% of the talent in the country but then treat the other conferences the same. There's too many teams in each conference and there will never be a year where 5 teams deserve to be in a playoff. I can't think of any year ever where there was more than 4 elite teams in the same season. What's the reward for playing in the sec? 60% of the top 300 players go to the sec every year and and the big 12 gets about 1%. Conference loyalty doesn't make sense anymore being how ridiculously lopsided its become.
It’s not about being elite. In no sport do you have to be elite to make the postseason. There have been NFL teams make the playoffs with losing records.
@CouzsCornerSports pro football has a draft and a salary cap to enforce parity. College football has 4 teams that get way better players than everyone else and another 10 teams in next rung. If you don't recruit in top 6 on average you won't win the title and are just wasting space.
@ wasting space? As in playing the sport at all or in the CFP?
A combination of recruiting rankings, NFL draft boards, stadium size and licensed apparel revenue. If there are any tiebreakers, the team I like the least gets the edge. This new methodology shall appease the tshirt fan gods.
Conference records vs. Power 4 conferences
SEC 14-7
Big 10 8-7
Big 12 5-8
ACC 9-14
I don't know about the other conferences. I do know that the SEC power teams didn't play Penn State, Oregon or Ohio State. I remember Alabama beating lowly Wisconsin. Just like The three teams I named would have destroyed the mid SEC teams too.
@Al-Rudigor Maybe, but Texas didn't lose to Michigan. You can take any one game or subset of games and make an argument.
The truth is when you look at the conferences over the past year, and take everything into account the SEC was the best conference. In 2023 it was the Pac-10.
Over the past 5 years, 10 years, 15 years 20 years, and 25 years it's been the SEC.
It hasn't been way above the other conferences like SEC homers like to believe. It's not the best every year 2023, for example.
Take any metric over a period of time though and SEC has been the best. Doesn't mean they will stay the best, but they have been.
@davidgibson8484 nah, the SEC this year was mediocre. It wasn't a bunch of powerful teams beating each other up. I don't think you believe that. I love seeing new teams in the playoffs. Why should we have to look at the fifth or sixth place teams in any conference, get into the playoffs? C'mon man! Anyway, SEC fans better worry about what's coming. NIL is leveling the field. Look at Bama begging for money. The poorest states in the country are in the south.
@Al-Rudigor then why was the SEC 14-7 vs other p4 conferences. It wasn't great teams just deeper with good teams.
100% agree with every point you made here. It’s just glaringly obvious that ESPN has a vested interest in the SEC! Which imo is why you see Georgia with a much easier path to the Natty, than Oregon(who is the number 1 seed). To me, seeding was as much to blame as anything, for the results over round 1 of the CFP! I felt going in, to this year, that if you don’t make it in the top 12, you really don’t have anyone to blame, other than yourself and I have seen nothing that would dissuade me of that stance. These pundits genuinely want 6-7 SEC teams in this tourney and won’t be happy until that happens!
Yep, they threw Oregon and Ohio State together. Penn State got an easy path, cause they figure Georgia can handle them.
No. NIL and the portal have already ruined it. eSECpn is just biased
They should cap the playoff at 3 teams max per conference before we see some real stupid shit
Don’t forget the first year of playoffs where they replaced the Big10 champs (PSU) with a team they beat (OSU) for a playoff spot and ESPN defended it! They don’t even hide the bias man. It’s blatant
Yep
I REMEMBER IT AND DECIDED THEN THAT THE COMMITTEE IS CROOKED! I DON'T LIKE EITHER TEAM
The first year was Ohio State in over TCU, and Baylor.
@@Al-Rudigor im talking Big 10 conf. PSU got completely hosed. The point I’m making is blatant bias by the “committee” or whoever makes these lame decisions. “They” decided OSU would better represent the B10 than the actual B10 champs
Civil war in college football right now.
I couldn’t have said it better myself!
We need Congressional legislation that the semis and finals must be on broadcast TV.
It's crazy that none of the games this week are on ABC. Pretty sure they're all on ESPN. And it's new years day. I looked it up. ABC is showing soap opera 's instead of ASU vs Texas, Oregon vs Ohio State. Ridiculous. Also, pissed because I have RUclips TV but it's choppy on my TV whereas ABC would be fine with my antenna. Now I have to watch my Sun Devils on a Tablet instead of TV.
Preach it brother Couz!
Kiffin is a terrie head coach. He should never do anything but an OC position
Paul Finnahaun is the mouthpiece of t h s SEC and he needs to go!
The saying goes " to whom much is givin.... much is required"... cant scream how your the best conference but your top teams lose to inferior competition not once but twice!... too much entitlement and last i checked games are played on the field..... not on hypotheticals!
I think Iowa St, BYU, Col, and Tx Tech got ripped off, and left out of the playoffs if Bamma, Sippy st, ATM, and others are gripping about not making it. Just expand the playoffs to 32, or 64. Mike Leach would say 128 schools.
Loved Leach’s comments on this.
To answer your question, yes they are but I wonder if Fox will start bashing SEC teams moving forward?
The SEC put a handle on that name
What does that even mean?
Bamma would get blown out even more than smu, and Clemson.
CLEMSON DIDN'T GET BLOWN OUT AND SMU DIDN'T BELONG LIKE TN.
Also why do you think Texas is as good as they are this year all at once it is simply because of the money that ESPN pumped into their program beyond other people that is unknown. What I'm saying is it's all about the money 💰 instead of friendly competition.
Sir all Texas schools are loaded oil money
WVU ranked biggest losers in the portal and Texas tech ranked no.1 in the big east.
Im an Ohio State fan...Herbstreet crap has been past old, for me, for at least 5 years now. I don't care about his dog either
They pushing competition. Thats why they are saying its garbage. Bottom line if SEC and Big10 pull out then viewership goes. No honest fan will say i will pass watching Georgia and Texas and Alabama play each other to watch Boise st play Purdue. SMU didnt deserve it. To say a college team playing high school team deserves it more than a college team playing real competition is insane
People that make the arguement that going 11-1 with a washout conference schedule is more impressive remind me of Kramer on Seinfeld bragging about beating everyone in his martial arts class .
Then you get down there and it is a bunch of 9 year olds . Just stop 😏
I never said it was more impressive. But more deserving.
Herbsteit and kiffin are the type that think bama should have made it just for putting pads on
exactly. to them it does not matter how many losses since they have high ceiling/talent.
Sec don't even play group of 5 they play fcs
Alabama did not lose to 3 blue bloods. Also Oklahoma is a big12 team with an sec patch
Herbstreet and finebaulm are idiots cant wait to hear them blat when the sec is out of the playoffs entirely
Indiana beat who they were supposed to beat. Ole Miss, Alabama didn't. It's that simple.
This misses the point Herbstreit did not say wins and losses do not matter. He said they are overly emphasized. And he is right to the extent that it is not balanced with Strength of Schedule. metrics. All every one should want is for the best 12 teams to make the CFP. That can't be realistically assessed without looking at the quality of a teams opponent. I don't think any team should get auto-bids or first round byes. based on the results of a single game (Conf. Champs) nor do I think any league should be guaranteed a single slot. Period. Full stop.
We have a 12 team format. I personally want the best 12 teams to be in the playoffs. Does that mean a 9-3 team should make the playoffs and an 11-1 shouldn't. No. but you have to give due consideration to who they've played. Who They Beat and who they lost to. We need to take subjectivity out of it. What about a points system? 5 Points for a ranked win. 3 Points for a close loss to a ranked team. 1 Point for a non-ranked win. -1 for a blowout loss to a ranked team. -3 for a loss to a cupcake. -5 for a blowout loss to Cupcake.
How do you know "the best?" That's subjective. What if the "best" looking team plays two absolute stinkers? Should they get 2 mulligans because they are peceived to have high ceilling?? No. You take is terrible. It should be most deserving.
I’d definitely like to see some sort of metrics or points system. Even go back to the BCS system to rank the teams.
Totally agree. But if they always win who can challenge them?
Between those two and all the race baiters at ESPN, it's a wonder anyone watches them. They truly are disney owned.
So 1st off Id like to say I don't have a problem w which teams got in. I think the seeding is BS with Oregon & OSU getting by far the hardest road. They need to reseed but that's ESPN making it easier for Georgia. Auto bids are fine, makes all conferences get a piece of the pie, they just shouldn't get a bye automatically, the should go in the bracket where they're ranked. Let's be honest, the same blue blood top teams are always gonna win the natty, they have the best talent and the most $. No group of 5 or middle of the road power 4 teams are ever going thru 4 games to win the title. This ain't basketball. I will say I love the home games even though they are obviously a big factor favoring the home team
New to this channel, whatvisbyoir opinion of West Virginia being in the Big12? Ive always felt they got hosed and should have been in the ACC. I liked them in the old BigEast best and wish they would have kept that conference. Loved watching them play Louisville, Syracuse, pitt and cincy. As a college fan i hate taking potential road games away from fans. Geography should matter.
Because of the regionality and natural rivals, I would have loved for WVU to land in the ACC. That being said, I have grown to love the Big 12 and feel WVU is a cultural fit.
If these critics are going to use this logic, have that some energy when March madness comes around. It’s essentially the same as arguing to decrease the pool for that tournament because a 16th seeded team against the 1 seed is just “not fun to watch, woe is me”. Like stfu, upsets happen (i.e. twice in the past five years), these beauty of college sports is the unpredictability of putting your heart and souls into rooting for amateur 18-22 year olds. Let them keep on crying, expansion is a major win for cfb
Money is ruining college football
