    color coding your ranks in combat is very useful, to your enemy sniper forces.

    • @finnthornhill5820
      @finnthornhill5820 9 лет назад +11

      +VictorLepanto It helps soldiers recognize each other and send specific soldiers to specific places instead of saying, "Who's a sniper? raise your hand, (raises hand) okay you go!"

      +Finn Thornhill haha yeah, even without helmets they were all clones so they looked the same. guess that's why it became less organized during clone wars (thanks to the cartoon mainly)

      @void870 9 лет назад +10

      +Finn Thornhill soldiers in a tight knit unit usually know, by name and face, the jobs of everyone in their unit. like victor pointed out, color coding it is sniper chow. hence the reason why our own military ranks insignias in the US army are all a small patch in the center of our chest and the marines pin their ranks on their collars. we also don't salute in a combat zone either...because of snipers. we all wear the same uniforms in the military as well.
      because of how we dress and act in a combat zone, a sniper looking around to knock off an officer in afghanistan won't be able to tell who is who unless he got close enough to read our insignias, thus exposing himself.

    • @VictorLepanto
      @VictorLepanto 9 лет назад +2

      Contrasting The Void Of course, all a sniper has to do is watch long enough to see who is giving all the orders. I guess you can find ways to hide that, much more difficult though. You can always figure out who is in charge.

    That the colors stand for units instead of ranks was not just a Phase II thing.
    In fact, colors for ranks were only used at the beginning of the war but that system got changed very fast during Phase I.
    As you can see in The Clone Wars, Captain Rex already wears the 501st blue instead of red despite beeing a Phase I Captain.

    STORMTROOPER
    Legion-9,813 units: 4 regiments (9,812 units: 8,192 troopers and 1,620 officers) led by a High Colonel. The largest defined level of organization within the Stormtrooper Corps., it is the approximate equivalent to an Imperial Army battlegroup. Depending on the specific size of the squads and legions composing it, a legion can even reach as high as 14,826 units, composed of 12800 stormtroopers and 2025 officers. The legions mere deployment and parading also act as a form of psychological warfare, being adept at manipulating the psychology of dominance while shielded in the eerie anonymity of their armor.
    Regiment-2,453 units: 4 battalions (2,452 units: 2,048 troopers and 404 officers) led by a Lieutenant Colonel. A Stormtrooper regiment is considered sufficient enough to seize a Class A planetary starport. Depending on the size of the scouts and platoons, it may reach as high as 3,701 units, composed of 3,200 troopers and 505 officers.
    Battalion-613 units: 4 companies (612 units: 512 troopers and 100 officers) led by a major. A Battalion is very likely to incorporate many types of specialized stormtrooper units, including scout troopers and incinerator stormtroopers. Depending on the amount of squad and platoon manpower, the units may reach as high as 926 units; specifically 800 troopers and 125 officers.
    Company-153 units: 4 platoons (152 units: 128 troopers and 24 officers) led by a captain. Depending on the size of the platoons, it may reach as many as 231 units, specifically 200 troopers and 30 officers.
    Platoon-38 units: 4 squads (36 units: 32 troopers and 4 officers) led by a lieutenantand a sergeant major. A platoon is variable in size, similar to a squad, with some platoons even reaching up to 5 squads, and by extension, 57 units: 50 troopers and 5 officers.
    Squad-9 units: 8 troopers, including a corporal, led by a sergeant. It is the smallest stormtrooper unit typically deployed into a threat situation. Can also include up to 10 troopers.

    • @YourCrazyDolphin
      @YourCrazyDolphin 8 лет назад +7

      The armor disperses the heat, so they'd only get injured or unconscious- not killed.

    • @gpgpgpgp1000
      @gpgpgpgp1000 8 лет назад +2

      +FORMINCRAFTIA Well, there definitely would still be kill shots. I agree though that in the Expanded Universe Stormtroopers would be injured or killed at a realistic ratio, but in the movies, they all seemed to drop dead at one shot.

    • @YourCrazyDolphin
      @YourCrazyDolphin 8 лет назад +2

      gpgpgpgp1000 They were probably all knocked out, besides, I doubt that Luke nor anyone else was really used any high-quality weapons. Stormtroopers were pretty much guaranteed to surrvive any blast minus a armor piercing slug or a explosive.

    • @gpgpgpgp1000
      @gpgpgpgp1000 8 лет назад +1

      +FORMINCRAFTIA I don't know where you are getting this info. Han's blaster is widely reported to be illegally modified and is more powerful than most DL-44s. Princess Leia and Luke killed most of their Stormtrooper victims with E-11s which they took FROM DEAD STORMTROOPERS! Leia and Luke were using the exact same guns the Stormtroopers used.
      Besides, a hit to the chest is not going to "knock you out." A non-penetrating head shot might, but one to the chest would not knock you unconscious.

    • @YourCrazyDolphin
      @YourCrazyDolphin 8 лет назад +1

      gpgpgpgp1000 Knocked out actually. And the armor info I got from tbe same channel that made this video- minus those hit by explosions and lightsabers, storm troopers are only knocked out when shot due to how their blasters disperse the heat. This is also why you never see a hole form in their armor- it didn't get burned through TO kill them.

    I respectfully disagree, combining what I've seen in the original trilogy and books with new Disney Canon like force awakens and the latest battlefront and US Army rank structure, here is how I gather it.
    Red - commander (field grade)
    Orange - officer (lieutenants and junior commanders)company grade ranks
    white - NCOs (sergeants)
    Grey - corporal (Jr NCO)
    Black - Enlisted (private first class your E2s E3s)
    none - junior enlisted
    at her colors seem to be non Canon and seen little. mainly other video games n such sometimes designating troopers skill or weapon field.

    Well, for one thing, separating "enlisted" and "Sergeant" makes no sense because sergeant IS an enlisted rank. It also puts Sandtroopers with white pauldrons above the ones with orange ones. But in the film, it is clearly the one in orange giving the orders. And with all these variations and customizations, the simple truth is there is no real ryme or reason to Star Wars ranks, unfortunately. The only one that seems to have been thought out, was the four colors in Attack of the Clones. They seem to have had the same lack of foresight when the wardrobe dept made the rebel and imperial officers uniform insignias. There are just too many inconsistencies.

    White- Lieutenant
    Red- Captain
    Orange- Commander

  • @codylujan
    @codylujan 7 лет назад +1

    They changed it now. The new one is
    None: Enlisted
    Black: Sergeant (or squad leader)
    White: Lieutenant
    Orange: Captain
    Red: Commander
    Almost all of the sandtroopers in the movies wore black and orange though. Since disney took over, everything has gone to shit. But thats the way its suppose to be.
    Hopefully Battlefront 2 will clear this stuff up and add respective colors for your rank in the game.

    White = Sergeant
    Green = Corporal
    Blue = Specialist
    Orange = Captain
    Red = Commander
    For roles you can do

    What does a green paultron mean to the imperial troops?

  • @steverino6954
    @steverino6954 7 лет назад

    Well, for me, I don't think any Stormtroopers would be officers. They are the expendable grunts of the Empire. I see them as all enlisted ranks. So, when I set up the platoon display that I am currently collecting the new 5poa trooper figures for, I am going to have four squads of six troops in the formation. The trooper at the far left of each squad (from the observers viewpoint) will have a black pauldron as the squad leader and the army equivalent of a corporal. And then, front and center of the platoon will be a trooper with an orange pauldron as the platoon leader and the army equivalent of a Sargeant. The rest will be regular troopers sans pauldron. (I will have no white pauldrons in the platoon, but perhaps they are PFC's or cavalry troops or something.)

      Ok.......First up. A Stormtrooper squad consists a Sergeant (Squad Leader), Corporal (Assistant squad leader) and seven Troopers. I tend to agree with some of what Ryan Emerich had to say on this one. However...
      Red - COMD (LT, CAPT, MAJ, LTCOL) Platoon up to Regiment command.
      Orange - SNCO E7, E8, E9
      White - JNCO Sergeants E5, E6 (Squad Leaders)
      Grey - JNCO Corporal E4 (Assistant Squad Leaders)
      Black - Trooper (E2, E3)

    • @steverino6954
      @steverino6954 6 лет назад

      I'm just going by my army experience. My platoon consisted of four squads. The Platoon Sergeant was, of course, in charge of the whole platoon, and each squad in the platoon had one corporal in charge of that squad.

      Steverino I was in the Australian Army. That’s how a basic platoon structure was also for us. However, it looks like the Stormtrooper Corps is structured more like US marine corps.

    • @steverino6954
      @steverino6954 6 лет назад +1

      We had four Platoons in our Company. 1st and 2nd Platoon were under the command of a Lieutenant and 3rd and 4th platoon were under the command of another Lieutenant. (those two would be represented in Star Wars by the Imperial officers that you see wearing black uniforms.) The whole Company (of four Platoons) was under the command of a Captain (the company commander.) This would be represented in Star Wars by an Imperial officer in a grayish green uniform.

    • @TheLoreMasterYT
      @TheLoreMasterYT  9 лет назад +3

      Emerald Pride I do both. At the moment, there isn't much to go off of from just official canon sources, as there haven't been that many books or comics made yet, to where making a detailed video based only on official canon material would be difficult or underwhelming. The intro specifies whether or not information is from both official canon and legends or just official canon. Also only official canon videos will also have an "OCO" symbol on the thumbnail.

    • @villa4830

      Perhaps cuz Rex is 501st and Thire is shock troopers (don't know official name)

    • @nathangraham9573
      @nathangraham9573 6 лет назад

      Phase 1 clones had colored stripes to show rank -- green = Sergeant, blue = Lieutenant, red = Captain.
      Phase 2 clones used colored markings to indicate legion affiliation. Thire was part of the 65th Coruscant Guard, they all wore armor with red markings. Rex was part of the 501st, they all wore armor with blue markings.

    • @godsdj7316
      @godsdj7316 5 лет назад +1

      The colour-based rank system used by the Grand Army during the Battle of Geonosis was rendered obsolete during the early Clone Wars. By the time of the Clone Wars TV series, colour-based ranks were abandoned and colours were then used to indicate units. Captain Rex wore blue due to his place within the 501st Legion, whereas Thire wore red due to his position within the Coruscant Guard.

    • @Samuraiedge2
      @Samuraiedge2 8 лет назад

      +Gahlok12 All of the blasters in the first 3 movies were based on real guns.
      The E-11(stormtrooper blaster) and the DH-17(rebel pistol from episode 4) was made from working British Sterlings. The weapon can still fire bullets.
      The DLT-19 was basically a painted MG-34 with rails.
      Han Solo's blaster, the DL-44, was made from a C96 Mauser.
      The A280(rebel rifle used in Episode 5) was based on an AR-15 in an attempt to replicate the A295 that was made from an STG-44.

    • @MrBioniclefan1

    • @godsdj7316
      @godsdj7316 5 лет назад

      A rifleman uses a blaster rifle, a sniper uses a sniper blaster rifle. Rifles go medium range, and are less accurate at long range. Snipers tend to have a slower rate of fire, but work very well at long range.
