One should NOT need to upgrade guide rod/recoil spring and magazine spring from a quality piece that S&W claims to be.

@@Highgear145 Yeah I’ve noticed over the years so many people on RUclips judging a Glock’s performance based on whether or not it can fire right out of the box without any oil. I’ve never ever understood this line of thinking. I ask, would they drive their new car off the dealer’s lot if it didn’t have any engine oil in it? ALL things mechanical that have metal-on-metal contact causing friction, require some type of oil/grease/lube, period. That goes for Glocks too.

I have the 4 inch model. I installed a stainless guide rod and 22 lb recoil spring. I have also installed heavier springs in all my mags. I performs with everything I feed it......including several mags full of the heaviest Buffalo Bore ammo. I love the way the gun feels. Smaller than my XDm Elite and G20 while holding 15 rounds. Well worth the few $$$ spent on upgrades.

I have both the 4" & 4.6". After about 10 or so loadings of each magazine, I got feed issues in that the new round would not fully chamber. I followed the advice found on another channel and replaced the magazine springs with some that were MUCH longer & more stout. I have had ZERO feed issues since. I think S&W specified the wrong springs in their mags.
I sold my Glock 20 after buying the S&W. Glock is a great gun, but the S&W fits me like it was made for me, and the Glock didn't.

Didn't matter the shooter, or the environment. IT ALL HAD FEEDING ISSUES. Updated the extractor with APEX new FRE...My problems are gone. Highly recommend that part to anyone having feed issues with their M&P 10.

Interesting! Possibly the rounds are hanging up when feeding as the rims are notching into the factory extractor? It sucks having to pay $55 to replace a factory part, but I'm glad to hear it's solved your issues. Hopefully we'll get some feedback from other folks that try it as well.

The sellior and belliot ammo is a literal 40 cal load. Truly testing these you need to go with the hot stuff. The m&p had a tendency to choke on full power ammo. I changed out my recoil spring to a 20 lb and put extra power mag springs in my 15 round mags. Now it runs anything you throw in it. Zero malfunctions since changing the springs. I have the 4.6.

    • @adventurfly879
      @adventurfly879 7 месяцев назад +1

@jimmymoore6641 try springer precision. That's where I got the extra power springs. If you are buying recoil springs make sure you get the wolff springs for the 45. The 10 mm uses the same frame. And I would have got the 22 lb spring. I think 24 is a little heavy for running the lighter loads. You want your gun to run it all. That's how I settled on the 20 lb spring. Turned out perfect. Although you shouldn't have to do any of this to make your gun run proper 10 mm loads. Not a great move by smith to tune it for the weak stuff. When you are buying 10 mm they should know you are probably buying it for more then a range toy.

I purchased the 4.6 inch barrel 10mm a few months ago. What a headache at first. $30 for a new guide rod & $20 for some new magazine springs and im back in love with this gun. She is a beast after the upgrade parts. I recommend the 20lb-22lb guide rod. The 24lb one is only for 200gr-230gr and/or hardcast. I only use 165gr-180gr and i purchased the 22lb guide rod from Galloway. The factory stock guide rod was 17lb pressure and it would cause a failure to feed with 180gr every once in a while. Im sure the 20lb guide rod will get the job done. I only went with the 22lb guide rod to be onthe safe side. Since the upgrade I have had no problems & i noticed the slide racks back slower and smoother which gives the round a chance to slide in the barrel properly. I also noticed the cartridges were getting extracted 15ft in the air & some landed as far as 20ft away from where i was shooting with the the 17lb guide rod. With the 22lb guide rod all the shells are being extracted slower and landing 2ft-4ft away from me. Happy. Was kinda wishing i had bought a glock 20 but now that the problem is fixed glad i bought this gun.

My S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol range update for Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, testing my new magazine extensions from Floyd's Custom Shop, Inc. (located in Blanchard, ID). These extensions give me 2 x 16 round mags and 1 x 20 round mag of 10mm Auto ammo.
I ran 280 rounds of 10mm Auto ammo through my pistol today, bringing my grand total round-count of 10mm Auto ammo to 2,101. I experienced three near FTF jams with one specific type of ammo. I say "near" because ultimately these three rounds did feed on their own, but they did not go smoothly into battery (more on this, below). I put the following rounds of 10mm Auto ammo down range today:
    1. Steinel Ammo 180 Gr FN FMJ × 100 rounds (1,140 FPS MV; 519 FtLbs ME). Clean, accurate, soft-shooting, low-powered for 10mm Auto, flawless operation.
    2. Underwood Ammo Range Supply 180 Gr FN FMJ x 50 rounds (1,250 FPS MV; 624 FtLbs ME). Clean, very accurate, potent, moderately-powered 10mm Auto, flawless operation.
    3. "'Blemished' on sale" SIG Sauer Elite Ball 180 Gr FMJ x 50 rounds (1,250 FPS MV; 624 FtLbs ME). Clean, accurate, potent, moderately-powered 10mm Auto, three near FTF jams. I could feel my pistol almost choke on three of these rounds, rather than smoothly slam them into battery, but these three rounds did feed on their own without any added input from me. Post-firing, I examined the cases and found slight barrel-like bulging, and micro-fracturing, around the central and top areas of these cases. SIG did post a warning that this "blemished" ammo might not be totally reliable... but it was on sale at a pretty big discount. Buyer beware - scrutinize each of these cartridges before attempting to fire them.
    4. Underwood Ammo 180 Gr Hornady XTP JHP x 20 rounds (1,300 FPS MV; 675 FtLbs MV). Clean, very accurate, potent, moderately high-powered 10mm Auto, flawless operation.
    5. Underwood Ammo 155 Gr Hornady XTP JHP x 20 rounds (1,500 FPS MV; 774 FtLbs MV). Clean, very accurate, very potent, full-powered 10mm Auto, flawless operation.
    6. Underwood Ammo 200 Gr FN HCL x 20 rounds (1,250 FPS MV; 694 FtLbs MV). Smokey, very accurate, very potent, high-powered 10mm Auto, flawless operation. No uncommanded magazine drops.
    7. Underwood Ammo 220 Gr FN HCL x 20 rounds (1,200 FPS MV; 703 FtLbs MV). Smokey, very accurate, very potent, high-powered 10mm Auto, flawless operation. No uncommanded magazine drops.
So my M&P 10mm Auto pistol has gone 2,100 for 2,101 (99.952% reliable), and has functioned 100% flawlessly since investing $46 in upgrading the stock 17# RSA and the stock mag springs in my two original magazines back in late May 2022. This is a very reliable, very ergonomic, very easy pistol to shoot well.
    Good things! 👍

My 4” had the same issue stovepiping after 13 rounds using multiple mags with diff ammo types and the springer precision mag spring. I sent it back to s&w once and it still did the same thing. It HAS cycled a full mag shooting it one handed before though. My guess is that the magazines might be slightly out of spec or need broken in, idk. The rounds do sometimes rattle in the magazines as well, so something is biding up somewhere. I like smith and wesson and the gun enough to keep it. Some factory extended mags would be nice…

I'm not an Armorer or a Gunsmith, but I do know several of both and all of them told me the same thing. If the pistol jams the first time out, replace the magazine. If that doesn't work, clean the pistol. If the weapon still jams, is it all types of ammo or just a certain type? If it jams with more than one type of ammo, send it back to the Manufacturer. If it only jams on one type of ammo, perform an internet search on jams with that type of ammo. Most of the time, you will end up with the correct answer. Sometimes, it's an easy fix.

I'm curious, what poundage Gallaway Precision RSA did you install?
The original factory RSA is woefully inadequate at a mere 17 pounds (17#). Same goes for the weak factory magazine springs.
S&W sprung this pistol for soft weak handed men, and average ladies. Not the way to go for a light-weight pistol intended for hunting and large critter deterrence.
I've been running a Wolff Gunsprings solid steel guide rod and 24-pound uncaptured recoil spring, plus 11-coil longer stronger magazine springs from Springer Precision, in my S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol since late May 2022, with terrific results. 100% flawless reliability through over 1,600 rounds of various 10mm Auto ammo, from 140 Gr ~ 220 Gr, Xtreme Pentrator, FMJ, JHP, FN HCL loads.
Just recently, I installed a Galloway Precision 24# RSA in my pistol. It performs just like my Wolff Gunsprings setup, but with the added convenience of being a fully captured assembly.
The one thing I've noticed is I don't believe the 24# RSA will allow weak 10mm Auto ammo (.40 S&W Long) to fully cycle the slide. Thus I wouldn't recommend shooting any ammo producing only low 500ish FtLbs ME, or weaker, with it. So if you're inclined to shoot .40 S&W Long powered ammo, switch back to the weak stock 17# RSA.
    Good things! 👍

Sad that they put their customers through sending it in only to polish stuff up. I have heard of some people saying they never have problem with their 4" but I think they only shoot, as you say 40 long ammo. Low power 10mm.

Shooting Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL, 200 Gr FN HCL, 200 Gr Hornady XTP JHP rounds, I'd estimate my ejected cases fly about 15', using my 24# RSA.
The biggest difference is that my polymer frame isn't being battered anymore. It's nowhere near as snappy as it was with the weak stock 17# RSA.
It's now a pleasure to shoot.

I had about 4 casings land in my shirt pocket in 100 rounds. Unfortunately that 100 rounds also had 3 failures to feed, so I don't trust this gun any further than I can throw it.

@misterfilmguy I agree with you on the fit and finish. To me, it feels so much better in the hand than the Glock and Springfield, plus it aims naturally for me. Get yourself a Grand Power P40 or P40L, both are really reliable and a pleasure to shoot, Grand Power pistols use a rotating barrel locking system similar to the Beretta PX4 Storm, the Grand Power pistols have a full length stainless steel chassis system inside the polymer frame which houses all the internal fire control parts such as trigger, doing this results in a much sturdier pistol and a more consistent trigger pull as opposed to all the parts, just being housed inside a polymer frame. All the Grand Power pistols have an amazing 3lb trigger, Grand Power actually had to redesign the original trigger because it was too light. The pistol DA/SA 15 round magazines.

The gun should be engineered with the right strength springs to be reliable before it leaves the factory. Let the customer buy the gun and figure it out I guess is their reasoning ? The main reason people buy a 10 mm pistol is for big animal protection usually, and they want to shoot high pressure heavy ammo.

I think that people may not be used to the recoil and as such are short stroking it causing failure to eject/feeds. You can do this with any semi-auto if you don't maintain a solid grip.

    • @jstud999
      @jstud999 Год назад

Yea I don’t think that’s the issue whatsoever. It’s hard to try to limp wrist a pistol let alone have it being a common problem. Most people have enough hand/ grip strength that they can’t limp wrist a pistol if they try to. I’ve tried countless times to limp wrist semi auto pistols and it’s next to impossible for me to do.

Most 10mm pistols are gonna need a break period because on a 10mm the recoil spring and the magazine spring is gonna be tighter...A stronger/heavier spring just has less give by nature

10mm has been a non-starter from the very beginning. There are very valid mechanical and ballistic reasons why semi-auto and auto ammunition cases are shorter. There are even bettter ergonomic reasons. I have had zero problems with my S&W 10mm. Not on my list of "carry" guns.

My late range update for Black Friday ~ Cyber Monday weekend, Nov2023:
I ran another 290 rounds of 10mm Auto ammo through my S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol. This brings my total round-count to-date with this pistol to 2,391 (all 10mm Auto ammo rounds). This was likely my last shooting session with the 10mm in 2023. I'm spending way too much money on ammo - my wife is gonna use the 10mm Auto pistol on me.
    - Magtech 10mm Auto 180 Gr FMJ (1230 FPS MV, 605 FtLBs ME) x 100 rounds
    - Remington UMC 10mm Auto 180 Gr FMJ (1150 FPS MV, 528 FtLBs ME) x 100 rounds
    - The following Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto rounds
--- 180 Gr FMJ Range Supply (1250 FPS MV, 624 FtLBs ME) x 50 rounds
--- 155 Gr Hornady XTP JHP (1500 FPS MV, 775 FtLBs ME) x 10 rounds

--- 200 Gr Hornady XTP JHP (1250 FPS MV, 694 FtLBs ME) 10 x rounds
I experienced no malfunctions of any kind whatsoever. Out of 2,391 total rounds fired through this pistol since mid May 2022, I've experienced just 1 FTF malfunction when the pistol was all stock. She's been 99.958% reliable.
The very soft-shooting Remington UMC range ammo again tested the low-end limits of my after-market 24# RSA, as the spent casings were being lobbed only a very few feet away (
