I'm 44, was 34 when the Boosh first showed out here, loved it on sight. Luxury took awhile - I didn't like the first ep so it took a year+ to finally watch others (on here). And then I loved it. And love Noel even more :-) I'll be looking forward to Luxury 2. I think it's great they've both matured and 'expanded their range' - obviously they now can be successful without each other but there's something special when they come together.
As if this was just recommended and I forgot about this video and that my question was answered (new yt page ). For those wondering after all these years I asked 'did you think luxury would get the reaction it did' lol
@@Rick_Cleland this is a late reply lol but I was referring to when he mentioned his demographic was 16 year old girls and art students at 1:38 . Good mini heckle tho
I'm 24, but I discovered him when I was 16 and... and an art student. Got my degree in animation 2 years ago! He keeps me young. Reminds me to not let adult life give me fantasy block ;D
I guess I fit the demographic perfectly because I fell in love with him as a 16 year old girl, and I'll soon be starting my college education as an art student.
I loved Luxury Comedy, and was teaching in American art colleges then. I'd often show it to classes and point out all the references in order to teach some history in an entertaining way. I tried rewatching it recently and really couldn't stand it. I got old, I guess.
It's a shame so many people hated Luxury Comedy. I personally think it's amazing - definitely one of my favourite shows. But then I'm obsessed with surrealism and I'd watch anything with Noel in it, so... Yeah Also 24 year old artist, and my favourite characters are Fantasy Man, Doo Rag, Andy and Dondylion
Oh, and I'm here to break statistics. I'm 44, knew about the boosh long after the party had ended, and I don't think it's a phase at all. Those fantastic times in front of the screen watching you doing your thing are classic moments yet. No plans of leaving all this fun behind.
People who started out as young fans quickly turned into 30-somethings over the years and we are still dedicated. We are patiently awaiting new Julian and Noel stuff.
I'm from Canada and I have been obsessed with the mighty boosh and luxury comedy ever since I found them, please tell me they are incredibly popular shows lol
Yeeaah, I love LC a lot. Even when not all the characters are my cup of tea, those I like, I love them a lot. I think the show is more of a cult kind of thing, not mainstream. I enjoyed a lot letting my imagination go with the flow, and the light/dark balance of the humour. And some of the sketches were just plain GENIOUS. The Jelly Fox episode is ridiculously creative...I had goose bumps while watching it, like a fucking mental erection, that episode made love with my brain. Hooray Noel, you are not only a wild and unruly flow of surreal beautiful creativity, but a super serious hard worker, and a beauty of a man.
Personally, I don't think anyone isn't "smart enough" to get it... there is not really anything to get. I love the show, myself, but it is a type of humor that most people just can't relate to. I don't think Fielding embarrassed himself, I think he was just expecting a better turnout. The show just isn't for most people I suppose, but I would love to see a second series.
Luxury Comedy Season 1 is lit great, and suffered from a mismanagement of circumstances. 1) Difficult content. The show is obvious weird and surreal, which puts viewers on a back foot. They're interested, but are cautious. The content of the show itself then centred on so many depressed and delusional characters, battling with circumstances through a surreal lense, that it's often a smidge uncomfortable even if it's very funny and artistically brilliant. So viewers are going into the show cautious, and then the uncomfortable subject matter exacerbates this during viewing itself. Plus there' the uncertainty about how much like the Boosh is this show. And this is then sealed in by.. 2) First impression. The first episode of Luxury Comedy is probably the single weakest one in the series, and the first two sketches are a relatively bland, obscurant Noel episode and then the French Chefs sketch, which lacks any real core and is pretty much just wacky and surreal for the sake of it, Rich's role being the saving grace. It's a weird outlier by the first season's standards, but it's also the very first surreal sketch, and a lot of viewers simply turned off and went "it's a load of weird (for the sake of weird) garbage". Those who trusted Noel's vision and stuck through for the next few episodes saw how brilliant and dark Luxury Comedy could be, but the feedback was unsurprisingly rather divided. Noel clearly attempted to take the criticism on board, hence the more linearly-narrative second season, but unfortunately that killed what made Season 1 great. Here's to hoping we get a Season 3 with a sketch style akin to 1.
(cont) times where you get onto a really serious subject and you feed off of each others ideas, times where you are hanging around painting and then you collaborate with the paint and then times where you are just sitting around eating burritos and watching old Monty Python movies. even in bad times i can see how Noel would be supportive, he is fiercely attached to family/friends. i dont know. why are you so far away Noel. i'd have your babies. and we'd raise them with art/music/love/surrealism.
i will always love him. yes, okay he is gorgeous. but eventually those looks go away and it is who the person is that you live with. and Noel is absolutely genius. he is madly funny, but he also has a serious intellect about art. he is creative and has a love for life. i mean, sometimes i think having him as a friend (or more...i cant even *imagine* sex with someone so creative!) would be like a big party where at times you are laughing till you cant breathe, (cont)
Everyone's trying to take me away I don't know why so I stick here pent up mind races rings clambering out of dirt and they watch they say and do nothing bleeding me dry as a sleep where would they be without me probly no worse off right but what do I do ah well nice day really
Mighty Boosh is, Luxury Comedy is viewed as a national embarrassment and proof that Fielding needs Barratt. Left to his own devices he produces Luxury Comedy lol (laughing at it, not with it there).
eah, yeah well, that makes sense, luxury comedy is like, really bad, in my opinion. that sucks though, they're both talented. oh well. hopefully we'll get to see another collab, or a mighty boosh movie. :)
Jog on 'djentledavis', I love the boosh and think Fielding comes usually comes across as a nice guy but pretending luxury comedy is good by hiding behind the 'you're not smart enough to understand it' argument is embarrassing. Fielding embarrassed himself and he knows it, there's nothing to 'get', it's not an intellectual surrealist tour de force, end of issue. Fielding needs Barratt to be successful, left on his own he does 'luxury comedy' lol.
Also I love how you appear to suggest that if a person doesn't like 'luxury comedy' then they don't appreciate art bahahahaha the ultimate pretentious keyboard warrior. You probably literally put a beret on before logging on to get rude.

You have no appreciation for surrealism or art such a vacuous mind should keep his opinions to himself
Fielding has realised he needs Barratt but Barratt also now knows he DOESN'T need Fielding to be successful so it's an awkward situation.
